This is the best Junior class to commit in the history of Iowa Wrestling. That is saying a lot.

It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!

He just lost 2x. I think he was in the pfp but going to drop out after a couple losses.
Yep. lost to Wask from Blair, and Welch. Both triple overtimes. Can't win if you are not attacking. (reason #241 for him coming to Iowa). He'll get Wask again in a couple weeks. Personally, he needed the losses. He was wrestling as though he was trying to protect something. In HS there is NOTHING to protect. The only ones who should care about the rankings, are the fans to give them something to talk and whine about. After his last loss in Apr, he went 5 month through 41 matches surrendering 6 points. I always love to watch what happens when he gets a chip on his shoulder.

A couple months ago you posted in another thread that you thought Gabe would go 174 a couple years before moving up to 184. Still feel that way? BTW, welcome aboard. I enjoy your posts.

I'll be honest, our family has a history of hitting their growth spurts later than most. It'll be interesting to see what this summer brings as that's when the rest of us sprouted. My oldest son is 5'11 & 220. Gabe is 5'7 walking around at 179. At his current pace, I still see him starting solid at 174, then bumping. But I'll leave that one to him and his coaches. I'm just dad guys. I stopped coaching him a few years back. For me, it's important for him and his coach to develop a relationship of trust, not having to run to daddy to get his opinion. I'll always be there to give an ear, but decisions that impact the team, I leave to those who are running the same.

What happened to Kolby Franklin and the ratings? I thought he was a big time get?

So as far as prospects go how big of get is Arnold? Patrick Kennedy level?

Why hurt?
hmmmmm. He ain't hurt. In fact, I would say, he ain't never been better. But tell you what, since he's now wrestling in the GREAT STATE OF IOWA, and on the same team of another large Hawkeye recruit, I'll let you guys see for yourself when he steps on the mat there..... GO HAWKS

Who knows, maybe that's the route all out of state Iowa recruits take for their last year of HS?

I see what ya did there! And I wouldn’t be the least bit disappointed. What’s good for the athlete is good for me and we’ve got a couple damn good athletes coming to the Hawkeye state. As Todd says, it’s great to be a Hawkeye wrestling fan!

In HS there is NOTHING to protect.
This. He has committed to Iowa and the Iowa staff, Iowa and staff have committed to him, nothing left to worry about but leaving it all on the mat in HS.

Also, watched a few matches on YouTube, love running back to the center, especially late in the match. This is an under estimated mental edge that Iowa was known for but we don't see much of these days (except AD). In his match with Mastro, you could see the energy drain every time GA sprinted back. Iowa style.

This 2023 class is impressive.

Refreshing as hell!

You are just all full of suprises aren't you?

Gonna let us know when the "Chop Wood, Carry Water" merchandise will be available for sale, or are you keeping that secret for awhile yet?
bwahahahaha. You guys do NOT even want to know my view on NIL. My child will be getting paid a TON of money to wrestle in college. It's called his scholarship. Once he graduates, and does so on the dean's list, he can then make all his money as a Herpetologist milking venomous snakes or breeding morphs. Now, he may disagree with me, and that's fine, but until he is an adult..... well you can probably figure out the rest of my statement. . .

Loses happen. That’s how you learn right… Still excited as Hell he chose the Hawks! Can’t wait to see him in Black and Gold!

I have a former co-worker who raised reptiles. apparently he was fairly successful in breeding rare traits (i assume it was mostly the color patterns?). Wife was a vet student... this is just about everything i know about the subject :)

Never bred morphos, but I did see Blue Morphos flying thru the Jungle in Panama several times half a century ago.

Guess when we see a picture of some guy at Carver with a small python around his neck we'll know who it is. 🐍

I’m already trying to let him keep Covid in the dorms with his as his “emotional support animal”. I’m thinking he may need to cuddle after his first couple practices?

Ya'll don't notice the trend? Guys commit to Iowa and Willie drops them. Keuter is no longer P4P either and he recently beat Gavin Nelson
I actually didn't realize I took out Kueter and left Nelson in. that will be fixed next week.

Gabe is elite, but my hands were tied with two recent losses. He's one of the few underclassmen in P4P and will go back to at least around 10ish as soon as SR's are removed if not sooner (should he knock off top ranked guys).

I'm mostly just ribbing you, but I think Riggins fell out of P4P after he committed and then wound up back in recently too

That’s hardcore coach coming from a dad!! I love your thought process. Unreal. Glad to have you and your son. Can’t wait!!!

Plenty of venom spewed in the cesspool. Maybe he could be the moderator and milk a few snakes here. I'd contribute some NIL money for that.
