Iowa recruits in new rankings

Iowa is the 2 Time Defending Big Ten Champion with the upper weight recruits we currently have. I think we're doing OK.

I may be way off, but I wouldn’t think the pile of good upper weight recruits Brands is landing are coming to Iowa to win B1G team titles ? No doubt that’s a cool trophy to claim on the way to the real one in March, but I wouldn’t guess it’s the ultimate goal.

And to be clear I’m not hating on Iowa’s upper weights. They have, are, and will be competitive no doubt. I just didn’t realize the huge separation that Cael and PSU had created there. Idk the numbers on titles from 125-149 in the same 15 year span, but I’d guess Iowa holds a similar advantage in the lower weight classes.

This isn't Bible study. This is my emotional support group that is assisting me with coming to terms that my little boy is growing up. (sniff, sniff) I have to spend a lot of time on here because these last few days, since his commitment have been really hard on me. (sniff, sniff). Without your support, I don't know what would become of me. (sniff, sniff). I'm really, really trying hard to keep it together...... It's all just so overwhelming....., but I have to be strong for him. (insert uncontrollable sobbing)

As for the picture, it doesn't like the link I am using, so you'll have to navigate to the one below. Our Christmas photo. And yes, you can see from my oldest where my youngest gets he's lifestyle and music tastes from. . . .

Gabe looks a heck of a lot like a young Herschel Walker, a bit shorter but much better at wrestling.

Being defending 2X Big Ten Champs is a reference to Iowa’s 2020 dominance that never materialized into a national title because of the pandemic.

And your post wasn’t very good. Go smooch with your crush elsewhere.

Do you Iowa fans see this recruiting class being the class that turns around Brands and Iowa’s upper weight success as far as winning individual titles ?

I saw posted today on another page that in the last 15 years Penn State has won like 18-19 individual titles to Iowa’s 3-4 from 157 to HWT ?

Would have to think Brands is looking to swing those numbers in Iowa’s favor with his recent upper weight recruiting success.
I'm sure that's a talking point used against us in recruiting by PSU and the like, and I'm sure it works with some kids, but to say TnT are looking at this future class to break that streak is way off.

If they didn't think the last 15 years of 157-HWT was going to be competing for titles they wouldn't have recruited them. It just hasn't worked out for one reason or another. I'm sure the coaches see each and every one of those kids not achieving at least one national title as a failure, but that's just the way TnT are wired.

As a fan, I certainly hope this class turns that stat around, because I want to smash PSU (and anybody else) in every measurable metric these clowns trying to recruit over us can come up with.

So I am a data nerd. The AA data and National Champions data actual were a part of our decision matrix that I created. From 2011-2021 PSU had 33 AA with 19 champions from 157 - 197. Hawks had 25 AA with 9 champions in the same time. Is it a talking point? Yes. but I don't think it is the primary point. I'll tell you why. The numbers will never lie. (people do) But here's the kicker: For PSU that 33 represents 11 individuals. For Iowa? Their 25 represents 14 individuals. For us, that spoke to development. The reality, based on those numbers was evident, Iowa developed more individuals in the upper weights than PSU did. PSU does a great job recruiting top talent that equates to national champions. We have to do better there. But the proof is TnT and company do an excellent job developing the talent they are provided with.

Good post. Great insight into the info hidden within.

Interesting, a data nerd with a questionable tan.

You might be the guy we're looking for to handle the riding time clock. ⏳

Only if I can do it using an abacus. OK........and the tan is spray on. Mocha Almond Fudge is my preferred tone.

Very good point indeed. Love the number crunching too. One thing that's always stood out to me about Tom & Terry has been their commitment to their recruited wrestlers (very curious if I crunched numbers to see if I'm very right or just mostly right...also would need to settle on what I should quantify to prove the theory), and without mentioning other programs or bashing anyone else I see other places that might convince a kid to greyshirt, then greyshirt, then redshirt and it seems from a distance that team title aspirations are paramount...3 years in a D1 room but starting as a true freshman can't be what's best for some of these guys. I know T&T put the individual's needs 1st and it's just something I've always appreciated. They're not recruiting over guys because they have a rough patch (difference in actively seeking vs transfers wanting to come) etc. One example of the differences between other places vs T&T's commitment to recruits is a coach's son is the last minute replacement at ncaas booting a 2x AA sr's last shot at the tourney. There's so many examples, and I guarantee T&T only want Nelson to get what he earns...good rare men those ornery twins.

edit: meant to quote your other post Phil!

Most of us Wrestling nerds are aware, didn't take it that way. As Coach Phil alluded to, PSU had several multi champs in that timeframe. That adds up. Iowa has a lot of multi champs too historically, and they'll have more down the line. They (PSU) outrecruit everybody by a wide margin in the last decade, it's no secret, but they're still chasing Iowa lately.

I think Gabe’s snakes got into your abacus here. 9 champs between 157 and 197 since 2011?

The point is taken though. Though I think it is partially strategic. Iowa puts more stock into guys that may never start or at least not for four years. Glazier, Costello, Turk, Cashman, etc. Penn State doesn’t get those guys, they go all or nothing and the results show that. A bunch of titles, but a boneyard of non qualifiers or non point scorers in between. You can debate the merits but I do respect that Iowa will almost never throw out a truly overmatched guy, at least not for more than a year. If something goes wrong PSU has 125 since Nico, if something goes wrong for Iowa it’s a fringe qualifier or one bad year and then a fringe qualifier or better.

It wasn't Gabe's snake..... It's was dad's fatA-- fingers. . . . . I'm a failure. I deserve a flogging. . . . .

This is the best Junior class to commit in the history of Iowa Wrestling. That is saying a lot.

It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!
WIN has Arnold #1.

WIN is a bunch of Ninny Muggins! My assumption is that's from PRIOR to his showing at Powerade. I'll have to find it and print it out for him. You can never have enough toilet tissue.
Cotten headed ninny-muggins...Lol, best insult around.. good one coach (tips cap)

Perry was a champ prior to 2011. St. John is the only champ from 57-97 during this time frame.

There were not 9. There was Phil’s phat phinger that typed nine. I’m a failure. I know….

Did you accidentally type that Iowa has developed more upper weights in the last decade than PSU too ? 🤯🤯🤣. I’m just busting your balls a little, because I would also support the decisions my kids make as well. I look forward to seeing your son battle it out with the kids from my favorite team in the future.

Got a 27 lb. last spring. Biggest in 20 years....
We’ve been Turkey hunting our whole lives…. Took my 8 year old nephew out and put him behind the trigger for the first time a couple years ago and he shot a 28.6lber with over 1 1/2” pearl tipped hooks right at fly down…. Bigger than any bird any of us have ever harvested. Mother Nature most definitely has a sense of humor! ; )

So, does this mean we can go back to being cranky again now that Arnold signed on dotted line? Pops prolly thinks we’re always this proper and well mannered.

hahahahaha! Pops is half white, not half stupid. . . . I've been trolling this site for a LONG time. well before y'all even saw my avatar and knew who I was. Honestly, when I first started trolling here, I didn't think my kid had what it took to be a hawkeye. Then the more and more I watched him grow, the more I knew Iowa was exactly who he was and what he needed.

So please, go back to being cranky and obnoxious. I would expect nothing less.

Lol Right on.

I thought I was white until moving to Oregon. But some white folks out here have been teaching me otherwise as of late.

(It doesn’t help when I humble brag to people that my niece’s husband just partnered with Ben and Jerry’s for a new ethnic equality themed flavor.)

See, that's my absolute life goal: To see my kid have his own B&J flavor: Quarter Pounder Chocolate Hawkeye Swirl.......
