Iowa State wrestling

I got looking into the potential matchups and got the same feeling that this could be VERY close. Iowa just has too many unknowns at several weights. I'm working under the guise that the teams split 174/184. Iowa needs both, imo.

If ISU beats the Hawks, I might have a coronary. I think the Hawks have bonus at three weights and would definitely win a 5/5 dual.

Brands wins duals. Although, the Dec. 10 version will be ISU's best chance in quite a while to win, I just don't see Iowa losing more than 3 matches between 141,165, 174, 184 and 197. Even with a pin/forfeit at 285, that isn't going to be enough for ISU.

Not that it will matter much in the end. Once/if Marinelli and Stoll are in the lineup, no way, no how!

I know I'm in the the minority on these boards but I think it'll be Carton in the end.

If either of these guys beats Moreno it would be a great win. He made weight for wrestle offs but had a shoulder brace/compression shirt on. I'm not sure if they hold him back at all coming off another shoulder surgery.
I have already been on record saying it wouldn't surprise me if Topher wins the spot. It is going to be neck and neck between the two. I think Topher will win the head to head if they meet up at Luther. I don't see how Gunther won't be the 165 at least through Midlands. Moody is still a work in progress. Damn hard worker who is improving.

I tend to agree since the dual is at Carver. But Iowa fans have been accustomed to naming the score since KJ arrived. Plus... Iowa always seems to manage an unexpected upset. This year... Brooks beats Dooney and Dooney's dad is arrested for rushing the mat... claiming the ref screwed him.

I guess we should call you Dr. Spooner. Did you get your psychoanalytic skills from Bob Newhart?

It didn't take a rocket scientist to tell us the space shuttle blew up.

If strategic decisions, no matter how poor, that lead to winning the first World Series championship in 108 years really took away a majority of your joy you're taking sports more than a little too seriously. Enjoy the win, for crying out loud.

The way the last 13 innings were managed stole most of my joy out of the series win. He did a great job with the team and the season, and then the pressure seemed to get to him and he made the most outlandish managerial decisions I've ever seen. Seems like he made up his mind ahead of time and was too stubborn or locked in to see clearly. Plus, he came out and said there were only two relief pitchers that he trusted. How would that make you feel if he were your boss (and you weren't one of the two)?

Still glad to get the pressure of 108 years off Cubs' fans collective backs.
This sums up my feelings precisely (as well as Papabears assessment). I was LIVID with Maddon starting in Game 6 taking out Arietta, and it got worse in Game 7.

The great players the Cubs clearly have bailed him out, and kept him from being one of the all-time Goat Managers in World Series History. (people won't forget, regardless of the eventual outcome, nor should they, rest assured about that).

Watching the parade on WGN as I type......

There may be some truth to that, but if you understand the angst involved with a franchise KNOWN for having "funny" shit happen on the way to the podium, on the few chances they've had, maybe you'd have a better understanding.

When it is "self-induced", which in this case it clearly was, from their own Manager no less, you went from a situation where the team has a Pitcher clearly rolling and the bats rocking, COASTING with a 6-1 lead. There was NO angst whatsoever up to that point, and certainly no reason to believe things were suddenly shifting.

John Smoltz said it best during the broadcast: "Don't do things that make the other team happy". (and he could have added, don't piss off your own players, fans and anyone else associated with the Cubs just because the Gremlins in your head said so).

So as a Cubs fan, we went from COASTING to a World Series Championship, with the BEST TEAM all year long on the field, where only something "weird" happening could derail it, THEN, that "weird" happening was provided by none other than the Cubs Manager himself. It was truly a WTF moment, and certainly had the heads spinning of anyone with a modicum of Baseball knowledge.

All's well that ends well, but you don't just sweep it under the rug and act like it never happened either. In short, it messes with your head. Good for you that you're above that I guess.

We frequently have a similar reaction on this board when the Hawks don't perform to expectation...regardless of whether they win the match, dual, or tournament. How many times have we complained about coaching decisions or performance on the mat? Does winning help? Absolutely it does, but that doesn't eliminate all frustration. I feel much better about the 108-year monkey (or goat) finally getting flung from Cubs fans collective backs, but in the moment it was tough to let go.

Dr. Spooner - I feel much better after lying on your virtual HR coach and getting this off my chest. Thank you, sir!

No one is arguing the logic, or lack of logic, behind the moves that were made. That isn't the issue here. But who the heck loses "most" of their excitement over the Cubs winning the WS for the first time in 108 years over it? Over a couple of innings in game 7? A game that was WON? You're saying you would be significantly more happy about the championship if the road had been smoother sailing late in the game? Please. It's over. THEY WON.

You told everyone it took away "most" of your joy. Very bizarre. If that's not truly the case, then I digress.

They won. You saw it. In your lifetime. Enjoy the moment. Let that crap go.

;)This is a topic about Iowa State wrestling on the Iowa Hawkeye wrestling board. That is as far as a a stretch is allowed. Please refrain from further baseball posts!!:)

SDSU is taking it to ISU early in their dual. Diblasi got majored and Weatherspoon got beat 3-1.

The 2016 hodge favorite is down 6-2 at the end of the first at 184. KJ has them primed already this season.

Edit: Downey isn't wrestling.

I hear their coach is very confident about their team this year. How will they do against the Hawks? Weight by weight analysis would be appreciated. I know little about wrestling and appreciate anyone's objective info. TIA

Moody deserves a comment, too, based on what I saw at practice. He was a little soft, physically, coming into the program. Not anymore. Like Young, he's now solid as a rock. Totally chiseled. He's definitely put in the work to develop physically. Also got a closely-cropped haircut. Looking the part now, and making progress. Looks like a solid teammate if nothing else. He's pretty close with the sons of a good friend of mine; I sure wish him the best.
