There may be some truth to that, but if you understand the angst involved with a franchise KNOWN for having "funny" shit happen on the way to the podium, on the few chances they've had, maybe you'd have a better understanding.
When it is "self-induced", which in this case it clearly was, from their own Manager no less, you went from a situation where the team has a Pitcher clearly rolling and the bats rocking, COASTING with a 6-1 lead. There was NO angst whatsoever up to that point, and certainly no reason to believe things were suddenly shifting.
John Smoltz said it best during the broadcast: "Don't do things that make the other team happy". (and he could have added, don't piss off your own players, fans and anyone else associated with the Cubs just because the Gremlins in your head said so).
So as a Cubs fan, we went from COASTING to a World Series Championship, with the BEST TEAM all year long on the field, where only something "weird" happening could derail it, THEN, that "weird" happening was provided by none other than the Cubs Manager himself. It was truly a WTF moment, and certainly had the heads spinning of anyone with a modicum of Baseball knowledge.
All's well that ends well, but you don't just sweep it under the rug and act like it never happened either. In short, it messes with your head. Good for you that you're above that I guess.
