Iowa TBT game thread

Why is jok not playing?

Also Gustafson would’ve had no business being on the floor out there with these guys if she was still on the team.

Shades of the '81 NCAA Tourny when Iowa played the Shockers on their home court. Unfortunate TO call effectively ended the game.

Good game tied at half. I think Wichita is the better team, but Iowa has the best player and seems a bit more cohesive.

Tate scored and Basabe had a nice block.

The guards don’t seem all that interested in feeding the bigs.
To be fair, Tate has been pretty lousy and Wichita has 6 blocks. Going inside is going to be tough against their beef down low.

Some of the guards seem interested in playing hero ball and getting their shots quota in.

I liked the play where the Iowa guard dribbled for 15 seconds, couldn’t shake his man, threw up a 25 footer, then looked at the ref bewildered....

Couldn’t stop the home court energy.

Oh well. Fun to see some of the guys again. Hope they make it an annual thing.

Iowa guards have cost them this game. They’re terrible.

The guards certainly didn't help by jacking up shots without moving the ball.

The biggest problem the Iowa team is having is keeping them in front of them. Every time they went on a scoring run, the Shockers were shooting from the perimeter. If they would've had just kept them in front, they would have been alright.

Tyrus McGee was outstanding. Led the team in both points (24) and assists (7) on 60% FG and 50% 3PT. Unfortunately, there were no other credible scoring threats. The Drake guards were not good at all, on either end of the court.

In other matters, I think the Elam ending is cool. No chance of every being adopted but I love that the games have to end by still playing basketball.

Surprise surprise, Drake players are not that good. I didn't watch much but that #25, I believe, was terrible, ball hog, chucked 3's and had trouble staying in front of his guy.

I agree, I wouldn't mind seeing it in the NIT or if the NBA gets their mid-season tournament off the ground. If ratings and interest in college basketball start to falter, for one reason or another, who knows? A lot of people in the 80's thought the 3 point shot was bush league.

#25 (McGee) was easily the best player on the court for Iowa - did you confuse him with someone else? Sure he’s a bit of a chucker, but he also went 6-12 from 3 while the rest of the team went a combined 7-25. Also had 7 assists to 1 turnover, while the rest of the team combined only had 8 assists. He wasn’t great defensively, but no one else was either. Would have liked to see Jok play to have 2 deep threats, but really an impactful big guy or a PG to run the show/play defense would have probably been even better.

Oh well, it was a fun couple of hours to kill in the summer!

Probably because it kind of is, considering what the game of basketball has devolved into.

Horner didn’t do the team any favors. His substitutions seemed baffling. Particularly in the 4 th quarter.

Fran McCaffery would have no use for 24 points and 7 assists. Ever.

What do people think of the Elam ending? Interesting concept ... Buzzer beaters are lost, but it is different.

How it works: At the first dead-ball whistle after the time goes below four minutes in the final quarter, the clock gets turned off. At that point, a target score is set, equaling the leading team’s point total plus seven. Then, the first team to hit that target score wins.

So, if my team is up by 10 when the Elam Ending activates, I need to score seven points before my opponent scores 17. It’s still an uphill climb for the trailing team, but it eliminates the parade of intentional fouls that can make the end of games interminable free-throw contests.
