This column is total garbage, aimed at stoking a racial controversy that does not exist. The columnist suggests that Bueckers is not as popular as Caitlin Clark was a year ago because she gets along with Black players and there's no so-called "Black villain."

I call BS. Clark set all sorts of scoring records at a school not known until her arrival as a national women's basketball power. Further, she was (and is) a floor general who makes her teammates better. She's competitive as hell yet remains humble off the court. She was, and continues to be, a great story.

The only "racial" component to Clark came when a brash LSU player attempted to hitch her wagon to Caitlin's popularity and mocked the Iowa star when the Hawkeyes lost. Caitlin Clark is the real deal. She will have a longer career than Angel Reese.

I don’t know where we are heading as a society but you can count me in the camp as one who would be happy (as a believer) for the end to come. It never gets better, it only gets worse 🤷‍♂️

The problem is there is undoubtably some racial components, and/or ethnicity and/or stereotyping and/or bias/jealousy to every single thing in the world…

But you just aren’t being honest with yourself if you can’t see a difference between the way, this woman plays basketball and every single other woman in the world!!!!!

It’s tiresome, trite and deceptive!!

I hear you CM, though I don't think humans have changed at all over thousands of years. I just think modern communication devices bombards us to think the problem is worse then it really is. I agree that the facts are there, though clearly, some interpret the facts much differently than others (like this interesting take in the article).

Yes I agree, the bombardment IS the problem. And it’s also why I don’t see it getting better, EVER! Rational people evaluate things with care and take the time to flesh out their own bias & emotions. We all have them….and then make an informed (although still likely slanted) opinion and go from there. Over time they may even augment that opinion one way or the other…

But we have a very loud minority that just refuses to see things at surface value and they are the most likely to be reported on 🤷‍♂️

I think a big reason is that journalism has changed. Your success used to be based on how many newspapers/magazines were sold. Now it's about how many clicks you get. So now the titles are misleading/over-the-top and its "how do I get at viewers emotions.
Its comparable to Caitlin and Angel- much ado about nothing but we want to make it into something. They are two players who are ultra-competitive, who actually like and respect each other.

It's people like Etan Thomas, the writer of this article, and that other female journalist that give this meme a reason to exist:

First of all why read it. Second of all, it's a ridiculous article. Nobody in the entire world is CC. She's transforming an entire league that has been dead for 30 years. Bueckers is the most popular player left in the tournament. And by the way she's been incredible in the last 2 games. Now women's basketball is back to being women's basketball. Probably still ahead of where it was before the CC phenomenon of the last 2 years, but are people tuning in to watch Paige? Probably not. But who cares. Let her be, she's been phenomenal. And finally, it's from Fox News.

She plays for the UCONN Basketball Factory that's why. Clark made her own way with a bunch of average players. She didn't need an all-star squad. Clark also dominates the eye test.

You were very much on point until the end - bringing up something that quite frankly was unnecessary. In case you have not been paying attention, that particular network has been pretty spot on, or at the very least informative, with many subjects while other networks have often been caught red-handed with fabrications or ignoring basic facts. How about you leave that alone in the future because we could be here all day with examples.

Paige went to UConn, which from the beginning is going to get 1/4 to not like you just because. Kind of like a men's player going to Duke. This weekend was the first time I have seen Cooper Flagg play. I heard he is good, I just don't want to watch Duke play.

If Paige had played her whole career like she did in the second half on Saturday, she would probably have drawn more attention, but she typically just sits back and lets the game happen. CC takes the game by the throat and makes it her beotch.

You’re missing out on Flagg then. He’s a stud. Like Duke or not.

Oh absolutely, I just really didn't watch a lot of men's college basketball this season. I think watching Iowa's games made me sad to watch other teams play.

Why do we always have to point to black, hispanic, asian or white? If we'd just say Joe, Mary, Jim, Sally, etc., biases would fall away. The media always has to stir the pot. Sad
Yep. Journalism is not about the truth through facts anymore. Instead, it's all about sensationalizing simple facts to cause discord and hate through clicks. The way I see it (generally speaking of course), journalism of old helped uncover racism, while journalism of today helps manufacture racism.

Don’t like Duke and he is a hell of a ball player. And interestingly enough, of the teams left, I’d probably prefer them over anyone else. Although I don’t mind Houston, even if Sampson has been shady most of his career. After all I do believe in 2nd & 4th & 10th chances 😂 especially in a sport that is predominantly shady everywhere at this point lol

What’s funny about Sampson and the whole shady thing is his big thing at Indiana was sending out to many texts during dead time I believe. I mean cmon!

Thanks, brother for reminding me of that… I forgot that’s how innocuous it was. He is an absolutely sensational, Coach!!! And I would prefer he was a decent human being🤷‍♂️😂

And I’m self-aware enough to know that we all fail greatly as human beings at times, me in particular.

As a complete aside, but a point of introspection. I don’t really enjoy being an asshole, and this will sound convenient, but you’d never know that in person. I like to hold doors open for people say kind things to lift people up… And there was a time where I used to apologize on here pretty routinely for getting carried away

But I am super sick and tired of people, letting their emotions dictate how they express themselves after we lose an effing sporting event. It is absolutely asinine.

Yeah, I know, I know I ain’t gonna change anybody but I figure I’m here I just as well pass it back to them lol.

I should add, I’m not above being that way in person. It just depends how outlandish somebody is being at a game, I’m personally at or in a line at the cashier where someone’s trashing an employee… That’s a trigger for me. Life’s tough, everyone deserves dignity and respect, unless they refuse to give it and even then you never know what’s going through someone’s life. But if you run into someone who is consistently a jackass who bitches and moans relentlessly… You’ve got a pretty good gauge on who they are.

Just my 16 cents for the day 🤷‍♂️

Not everyone should have an outlet to share their opinions with the masses. A LOT of idiots out there. Social media sucks.

I refuse to read that article. CC is a generational BB player who shoots 35 foot three pointers with ease. No other female basketball player does what CC does. Everyone said CC was only popular because her race. Anyone who thinks that has never seen her play. PB is not as popular because she plays for a consistent national powerhouse of a program and despite being very good does nothing out of the “norm” that draws fans to basketball. Look at all of the celebrities that came to see CC play. She is a talent that made me yell with excitement more times than I can count. She is exciting as hell and the much lower numbers for the National Tournament will reflect the absence of CC.

It would help if people were smart enough to not click on the articles, let alone re-post them.
