Iowa @ tOSU,...

Might be able to get them to start 'slow' sort of like with Marshall, but don't think we have much chance of that lasting. Secondary hasn't been as sharp with respect to the big play. Not going to be able to run the ball effectively, certainly won't be able to pass well.

Think it looks something like 17-3 at half and opens up to something like 38-10 final, maybe 35-17, something like that. Never really in doubt.

I think it's pretty much certain that this is Kirk's last chance to win in Columbus. Winning there is about all that Hayden has left in his bag of achievements that Kirk hasn't yet matched. If Iowa can somehow pull this off, I wouldn't be surprised if it went on to become Kirk's favorite win at Iowa. Even over the Orange Bowl.

Hindsight did not treat KF well in the 2009 game.

If I remember right he was pissed after the 2003 game. I think he yelled at one of the people handling the press conference - not a reporter. Ohio State at TDs off a blocked punt and a punt return. Won 19-10. I think Iowa wins that game with Tory Taylor.

According to the NFL draft rankings site, Ohio State has 8 players ranked in the top 50 and 4 in the first round.

And those are just the draft eligible guys, they have several FR that are incredibly talented too.

By "not too many" how many players are you talking about?

I imagine a handful of Iowa players might start at OSU but they have highly regarded 4-5 stars across the board and generally have the best roster in the conference. I don’t view that as saying Iowa’s players are bums. But yeah, when you get the cream of the crop recruits you generally have the better starters.

I was thinking more along the lines of at PSU last year. Hawks kinda hang around via the defense but the offense will just look futile throughout and McNamara doesn't hit 100 yards. Drew Stevens will hit a 49 yarder, 33-3 OSU.
5/14 for 42 yards was McNamara's line in that PSU game. This game could look very similar given what's transpired so far.

kind of an interesting stat. This is Ferentz's 26 year as the Iowa coach but he has only coached against tOSU 11 times {2-9}.

There is that gap between 2013-18 when tOSU & Iowa didn't play because of conference expansion changing schedules. But that still seems really low.

Last time tOSU played a Big Ten game where I didn't think there was a chance of winning was 2004. So I guess he has that going for him.

That was a nightmare game, but Iowa is not as beat up and toothless as that team last year was. Lachey out, top two RBs out, banged up O-line. They had three sacks and four turnovers and srill the defense kept them in it for the first half.

I expect Iowa to at least look more competitive than that Saturday.

The offense has definitely performed better this year, but almost exclusively as a result of a better running game. McNamara was 11/19 for 62 yards against Minnesota last week with a QBR of 29. Basically the same as the PSU game last year. I think OSU is better than Minnesota. Doesn't mean that McNamara won't have more success. It's just that it's not likely.

Iowa really needs that running game to click to keep things close, because the passing game has shown almost no life so far this year.

I don’t see this being a close game by the end, as we’ve seen this movie to many times over the last several years. Until Kirk moves on, this is how it will be against top teams.

All's season ended in that game as well. I see he's starting on Sundays now...

remember that game particularly well as it was during my first year at tOSU & was coming off the loss at Wisconsin that broke a 19 game win streak. Tressel had such a similar coaching style to Ferentz. Win games with defense, field position, & ball control,...just that Tressel had teams stacked with elite talent.

Iowa is never good coming out of the bye week. Look for them to get a delay of game penalty on their first possession. This game is going to be ugly. Hope I'm wrong.

do you prefer the old division format or the new super conference?

From I remember Iowa has the most protected games

Missing that FG was a bummer. Hawks are doing Hawk things as far as staying competitive. Bucks going for it on 4 and 2…Boom! Stymied.

Iowa just did the most Iowa thing ever. Kirk finally has the balls to call a fake punt on 4th and 1/2 a yard, but panics before the snap and calls a time out. Then we shank the punt.

You guys play such sound football. Ohio State obviously has a huge advantage at skill positions, but your defense is so good.

As for Iowa I've only watched the second half against Troy. But overall you lost a game you should have won against ISU, crushed Minnesota, & crushed the season opener. The offense has taken a step forward {really couldn't have gotten worse} and the defense is good as always. Still McNamara isn't the answer so you'll have to lean heavily on Johnson & the running game.

So far tOSU has played a very easy schedule. Originally Washington was the main OOC opponent but with conference realignment that got scrubbed.* But MSU & even Marshall & Akron were competitive for a half. Otherwise really the only chink in the Buckeye armor has been Howard not hitting the deep ball. But really like the ability of him being able to run. Defensively Knowles {the DC} has been using a pretty bland scheme in the first half, goes to make adjustments at half, & then gets very aggressive to shutdown the opponents in the second half. So far tOSU has only allowed 3 points in the second half for the entire season & 6.75 PPG. Easily the most balanced Buckeye team since 2019.

I think,
tOSU-31
Iowa-6

*tOSU gets back to major OOC next year with a home & home against Texas followed by Bama

Good call.

Cade didn’t hit 100.
**** Ohio State and the horseshit first half officiating.
