I will be at the Rutgers match... proudly wearing all the Black and Gold I can !!!!!!!!! hope we get a great East Coast turn out for the Hawkeyes !! it is already a sold out event...it has to be a better atmosphere for a match then going the 25 minutes to a PSU match ...... i can only take so much of how Bael invented wrestling and PSU is the best ever and nobody will even come close and yadda yadda yadda ...from the guys in the bleachers who wrestled in elementary and know more than Brands and Gable combined.

Huh? Oh wait...I know now. You’re talking about the people raising and coaching all those Pennsylvania boys you’re hoping Brands can bring into the program...

125 - Suriano tech Stickley - 5-0 Rutgers
133 - Delvecchio dec Laux - 8-0 Rutgers. I could see Laux winning this match. I've never been super impressed with Delvecchio, and he might have gas tank issues.
141 - Van Brill dec. Turk - 11-0 Rutgers. Don't see Turk beating too many people right now.
149 - Sorenson dec. Deluca - 11-3 Rutgers. Deluca is solid. Would like BS to get a major, but not seeing it.
157 - Kem dec Lewis - 11-6 Rutgers. I think Kem wins here, but it's possible Lewis wins. If Lewis wins, it's all over and Rutgers wins.
165 - Marinelli dec Van Brill - 11-9 Rutgers. Van Brill is a solid NCAA Qualifier, but Marinelli is too much. Don't think we'll see bonus here.
174 - Gunther dec Pagano - 12-11 Iowa. Pagano is tough too, but Gunther is better than people give him credit for. We know he's not getting bonus though.
184 - Gravina dec Bowman - 14-12 RU. Bowman needs to keep this to a dec.
197 - Wilke dec Mulligan - 15-14 Iowa. This is a toss up match. Wilke needs to win this one, or we'll need a fall from Stoll.
Hvy - Stoll MD Gross - 19-14 Iowa. Stoll could pin here. If RU is up by 5, you better believe this kid won't be trying a lat drop. But if RU needs a win, Stoll might get the pin.

It's a hard dual to predict. I see 5 weights that could go either way 133, 141, 157, 165, 197.

125 - Suriano decks Stickley: 0-6
133 - Delvecchio rides the wave to a MD: 0-9
141 - Turk isn't wrestling well right now: 0-12
149 - Deluca only purpose is to limit bonus: 3-12
157 - This is tough, I'm going home mat crowd here: 3-15
165 - TnT gives the Bull one more match off, Young gets the nod and gives Zulu Foxtrot: 7-15
174 - Gunther loses a close one at the end: 7-18
184 - Pagano is probably better: 7-21
197 - Wilke beat him last year and I like where he's at: 10-21
HWT - Stoll with the Dec: 13-21

Kem reverses and we still lose 16-18, need to keep the bonuses down on the first two weights.

125 - Suriano decks Stickley: 0-6
133 - Delvecchio rides the wave to a MD: 0-9
141 - Turk isn't wrestling well right now: 0-12

157 - This is tough, I'm going home mat crowd here: 3-15
165 - TnT gives the Bull one more match off, Young gets the nod and gives Zulu Foxtrot: 7-15

only the kids that Young Guns and Jody Train... most of the parents burn their kids out at the endless hours of wrestling tournaments every weekend all year around as they try to re live their glory years,....that never happened

Is there a lot of Iowa fans hoping for that? You seem to be pretty sensitive to anything critical of this year's team, which is not very good currently constructed.

I believe that in any fandom there are people who prefer, usually unwittingly, to be miserable, it often resolves issues they have personally/professionally.

You seem to be predicting it! I have as much right to be as positive as possible instead of as negative as possible. Do I like to lose...NO...but I am not going to go out of my way to be critical as some do....”green sweater...really?

I see the negativity thread has leaked over here. I fall on the side of ; if I don't like it, I don't read it. If it's just strong emotion, I can understand it, so I try not to judge to harshly. Many times I feel the pain as well.

Makes me think of the common phrase, Symbolism over substance. The substance side is the most important, it means results, but if you are winning on the symbolism side only, it can tide you over until the results fall in line (like during a rebuilding year). The frustration I am reading from many is that we seem to be losing on both sides of this. We are not getting results and judging from the small sample size that was ILL, we have lost most of our identity as well, add in a few errors in judgement that have led to some bad optics and it's a bad situation.

Can we change that, Yes. Will we? I hope so. Is this frustrating for many, yes, and we all react differently to that. So maybe we can all lighten up a bit. If you feel the need to call someone out, then do it, but don't use blanket statements. For example, you may want to say that I am a long winded, yet outstanding poster. Thank you for that! That does not mean we are all long winded or that we are all outstanding, well....... most of you are outstanding in my book.

Go Hawks!

Suriano by major. Multiple examples already this year where he dominates the snot out of a kid, but he stops scoring.

Lewis is not beating Kemerer.

Iowa may be down 10 - 0 after 141.
10 - 6 after 157.

Final should be around 18 - 13 Iowa.

My thoughts...

125 - Suriano TF Stickely (RUTGERS 5-0)
Rutgers wants this one bad, so I don't see Suriano getting any less than a tech. Stickley's job is to not get pinned.

133 - Delvecchio DEC Laux (RUTGERS 8-0)
Not sure why some people think Delvecchio bonuses Laux. Laux has only been bonused once in the past two years, and that was by Gross. He has held the likes of Nate Tomasello, Cory Clark, and Zane Richards to regular decisions, and he'll do the same to Delvecchio (in fact, I would say Laux scoring the upset is more likely than Laux getting majored).

141 - Van Brill DEC Turk (RUTGERS 11-0)
Van Brill is solid but not great, and Turk has shown nothing to pick him over Van Brill. Swing match that Turk could certainly win, but I'm giving it to Rutgers.

149 - Sorenson DEC DeLuca (RUTGERS 11-3)
Iowa needs the major here, but if the same Sorenson shows up that wrestled against Barone, they ain't getting it. This is going to be one of Rutgers' most important duals of the year, and I think DeLuca wrestles well and holds him to a decision.

157 - Kemerer DEC Lewis (RUTGERS 11-6)
If the same Kemerer that wrestled against Illinois shows up, Lewis may win here. But I've got confidence that Kemdawg rights the ship and wins a tough one.

165 - Marinelli DEC Van Brill (RUTGERS 11-9)
Gonna be a tough environment for Marinelli to wrestle his first official match as a Hawkeye.

174 - Gunther DEC Pagano (IOWA 12-11)
Big swing match. Probably one of the more boring matches of the night, but also one of the most crucial. If Pagano wins, Iowa is in big trouble...

184 - Gravina DEC Bowman (RUTGERS 14-12)
On paper, gotta give this one to Gravina. But be on watch for the upset! Bowman has looked really good so far this season, and Gravina isn't exactly an offensive machine. I don't think an upset over Gravina is out of reach.

197 - Mulligan DEC Wilcke (RUTGERS 17-12)
Another big swing match. This dual is going to be crazy, and I've gotta believe somewhere along the way Rutgers is going to pull an upset. I'm going gut feeling here and saying Mulligan knocks off Wilcke. Wilcke looked bad against Illinois and Mulligan has been getting better (had a recent win over the tough Rocco Caywood). I think home mat advantage and wild environment give Mulligan the juice to win.

HW - Stoll FALL Gross (IOWA 18-17)
I think big Sammy seals the deal again.

Rutgers guy here. You should keep in mind the raucous crowd at the RAC. Expecting 6,000 or more. Loud and proud. Could sway some of the close matches.

I also think we see Glynn and Happel go against RU.

That would be a fresh look! I like it! Why not?
Only think Sam goes if we need him to win the dual- do we know they will start at 125?

125 Suriano TF Stickley RU 5 UI 0
133 Delvechio dec Laux/Glynn RU 8 UI 0
141 Van Brill dec Turk/Happel RU 11 UI 0
149 Sorenson dec Deluca RU 11 UI 3
157 Lewis dec Kemerer RU 14 UI 3
165 Marinelli dec Van Brill RU 14 UI 6
174 Gunther dec Pagano RU 14 UI 9
184 Gravina dec Bowman RU 17 UI 9
197 Wilcke dec Mulligan RU 17 UI 12
HWT Stoll pins Gross RU 17 UI 17

I like to live dangerously with picks
