Iowa vs Rutgers

Smith recently beat the Cornell Heavy #20 Sweany 8-1, and Oklahoma's heavy #44 Lawson. He lost to quicker heavy's #6 Blaize Cabell of NIowa, 9-3, and Oregon St's Dhesie ranked around 5. Unless your Heavy is very quick , and I know little about him, other than he had a very respectable loss to Ok St #3 Mardseon 4-2 and a pin against the ISU Heavy ranked around 50, I expect, or should I say HOPE, lol, a possible 4 point win.

Smith is a senior who has wrestled pretty well the last 2 years, I don't expect him to get rattled at your place, and with his recent good showings, I'd be surprised if it was closer than 4 points.

You seem like a great fan and I enjoy your posts otherwise but the major for Smith prediction was off the charts bad.

I'll be watching ! lol. I just watched some youtube of your guy, if Smith loses to him, I will be surprised. But you never know, Smith has some lackluster showings here and there, and by the time the Heavyweight match comes around the match will be over so not a lot riding on the match.
You know, Stoll is kind of growing on me. I think he might win.

Congrats Hawkeyes ! You showed us Rutgers fans how much more improvement is needed to even compete with a program like yours. I was stuck at a business dinner so could on follow via RU wrestling twitter, but had enough info to see our guys who I hoped had a chance for bonus (Ashnault at 141 and Perrotti at 165, had fairly close wins), our 157 Lewis was a disappointing loss and our Heavy spit the bit again in a close match. The poster above called for a Stoll upset, and damn, you were right ! Tough , ugly loss for RU, but wrestling at Carver is hard on any away team, let alone a team still trying to work it's way up to the big boys. Very disappointing after beating Cornell, No. Carolina and Oregon St.

Congrats again. Hope you beat Penn St.

I concur with John, Abro. Thanks for dropping by, and good luck to your Knights the rest of the way when they're not squaring off against Hawkeyes.

And thanks for the well wishes -- hopefully we can make your hope a reality and knock off PSU this time around.

Hats off to Hawks. They really came to wrestle tonight. Rutgers is a pretty tough dual team, not much of a tournament team but solid all the way through and Hawks walked right up to them and punched them in the mouth.

Gilman is looking great so far and absolutely broke McCabe with "Iowa Style".

Clark got in trouble early kinda like I thought he would. Giraldo is tough on his feet and absolutely wanted no part of being underneath Cory. When Cory got on top he used that wrist control beautifully and got him self a major.

Topher Carton looked great after getting put on his back in the first to make the match competitive. I had no idea he was such a solid rider. Ashnault is a World Team member and returning All American and Carton certainly cemented himself a rung above Logan Ryan.

Brandon looked as solid as ever. Dippery is a tough kid, but Brandon is such a solid wrestler fundamentally.

Edwin Cooper was the man of the hour in my opinion. He was ready to go off the whistle, something I hope is contagious. He scored a TD in like 10 seconds and kept a high pace going for most of the match. Lewis was certainly a game opponent and showed why he's a top 20 guy, but we should see Edwin enter the rankings next week. Nice win for Coop.

Perrotti is a tough guy and Rhodes hung with him the whole match and almost came away with the upset. Rhodes is a scrappy, tough guy and if he keeps fighting every match the way he did tonight, he's going to start upsetting people who aren't ready for him.

I was a little disappointed in Meyer as I thought he was capable of a major decision win. His first period woes are becoming quite concerning. He's going to have a hard time coming back on guys who are more talented. We need him to be a point scorer at nationals to have a chance at a title. It seems more mental at this point. Hope Brands can get it turned around.

Gravina surprised me. I thought Brooks would run through him, but he was game and Brooks had to fight for a win here. What separates Brooks from a lot of guys is his amazing work on top.

Burak was typical Burak a lot like Brandon, very workman solid in all three positions. Would've liked a major. I'd like to see him take more risks and try to turn on the offense early and go for the major.
Big Sammy wrestled solid against a big, tough Heavy and comes away with an OT win. Welcome to the rankings Sammy Stoll!

Great job Hawks!!!

Thanks for coming by before / AFTER the dual. Glad to have another excited fan base in the B1G! And FWIW, comments like "I'm looking forward to tonight's match to see how far RU has closed the gap from last year's match." is the life blood for the Brands/Gable mindset that is "everyone hates*/is gunning for Iowa". Gillman's roommate is a little upset b/c now he's getting up an extra hour early to workout.

*Even though this is part of the mindset, Ironside is not allowed to put it on a T-shirt.

Howdy, HAWKEYE FANS ! Awesome football season you guys had ! I'm looking forward to tonight's match to see how far RU has closed the gap from last year's match. At 141 Ashnault is wrestling the best of his career, I expect bonus points for RU here. At 157 Lewis and Van Brill both traveling to Iowa I hear, and if Lewis goes I expect 3 more RU points. At 165 Anthony Perrotti also wrestling at Peak Form, and I expect 4 points here, as well as Heavyweight , where Billy Smith is wrestling well. That makes RU winning at least 4 matches. Hopefully around 15 points scored for RU. RU is coming off a free weekend after beating Cornell and George Mason at Madison Sq Garden the previous week. Those travelling to MSG for the end of year NCAA tourny will like the venue but not the hotel prices, lol.
RU faces Nebraska 2 Nebraska 2 days later at home, tough stretch. RU just had it's best recruiting season ever for wrestling, ranking 5 by Win Magazine.

PS- I'm looking forward to the Brands special video on Flo Wrestling. When RU faced Iowa at home last season, I had the pleasure of sitting next to the Iowa bench and got the whole Brands brothers show all night long, lol.
