Iowa WBB 2025 Recruiting Thread

I just got word as of now, DB is questionable for tonight. They will have a small little practice today before the game and see how she performs. So it sounds like there’s a good possibility she may play.

I was watching DB sparring around with her assistant coach on the sideline haveing a little fun. No crutches and she seemed to be moving. OK. Lol. I’m thinking we’ll see her tonight.🤞 maybe not running the point like she normally does. When she’s healthy she’s all over the place.
Yeah she’s hurting right now.

90 seconds left in the game north down by six. Journey puts in a quick six points first field goal game tied
Wow journey scores the last eight points up by two with 10 seconds left
Journey steals the ball north wind by 2 48–46
Sounds like someone willed their team to victory in the last 2-3 minutes of the game. We needed someone like that for several games in the middle of the season. Good to hear she has it in her and she did it against a pretty good opponent to boot. Kudos to Journey!

I think her mom would have drug her off the floor by her ears if she hadn’t had those last 3 minutes. 😳🤣

Addie Deals Mater Dei lost to Etiwanda 63-60. Addie had 14 points and 9 assists in the loss.
Is Addie’s season over then?

They almost pulled it out down 19 in the 3 qtr. Knew it was going to be a tough one to win that one because their 2nd and 3rd best players did not play in that game. Hard to overcome when you lose them very late in the season.
Believe this was for a chance to play in the Southern Sectional Championship. Up Next for them is the CA State Open Division Playoffs on Mar 4th.

"Mater Dei was seeking its first appearance in an Open Division final since winning the title in 2021, even more impressive considering the Monarchs (28-3) lost junior standout Kaeli Wynn for the season with a dislocated right kneecap Jan. 25, in addition to Southern Utah-bound senior Devyn Kiernan being unable to compete Saturday as a precaution after suffering significant contact to her nose and back of the head while trying to secure the ball Wednesday against Fairmont Prep.

Despite the Monarchs’ limited roster, they rallied after trailing 51-32 with four minutes remaining in the third quarter, scoring 11 consecutive points during a two-minute stretch."

Injuries suck.

Looks like @HIWILLE has a career in reporting. It was just as he described it without the large crowd went into a frenzy part. Here's his blow by blow events reported again with some granular details sprinkled in.

Houston steals the show late as North rallies late for win over Cedar Falls

"Without a basket for the first 38-plus minutes of the game, the University of Iowa recruit scored Davenport North’s last eight points to rally the Wildcats to a 48-46 win over Cedar Falls and their third straight trip to the Class 5A girls basketball state tournament in Des Moines."

"It was gritty by the Wildcats, who trailed 46-40 with 90 seconds left and had reigning Gatorade Player of the Year Divine Bourrage playing far less than 100%."

"However, from there, it was the Houston show.

After Finley’s deep triple, Houston answered with her first made basket of the game — a 3 — to get North back within 46-43.

On Cedar Falls’ next possession, Houston shot the gap for a steal, went the distance and made a tough-angle layup while being fouled. Her free throw tied it at 46-all with 1:10 to play.

After another North stop, Houston was open under the basket after a crucial offensive rebound by Maya Arnold. Houston converted the second-chance hoop to put North up 48-46 with 11.9 seconds remaining.

North had two fouls to give and forced the Tigers to burn more than eight seconds getting the ball over midcourt, leaving just 3.3 seconds. After a Cedar Falls timeout, Houston, of course, intercepted a pass in the paint to end the game, sending the large crowd into a frenzy."

"Next stop Des Moines.

Nobody will enjoy it more than Houston, who missed North’s postseason run last season with a major knee injury."

“It means a lot to get to state, especially being a senior and not getting to play last year,” she said. “It’s relief, happiness … just really glad to still be playing.”

Karis Finley is good . 32-28 North losing. Journey 2 points
Good stuff Willie. Thanks. The problem with CF this year is Finley basically has to play point forward bc CF lacks a true pg. She’s also tasked to guard the opposing team’s best player. They just don’t have the horses offensively to pull away from teams that are any good. Hannam is a very good defensive player but outside of Finley, the offensive unfortunately lacks firepower. Congrats to North. I hope they get healthy and win the whole fvcking thing.

I hope so but I think it's going to be Dowling and Johnston...they are pretty clearly the 2 best teams in the state. Upsets can happen but those 2 have been piss pounding everyone all year. This wasn't CF's best teams but their coach is very good and their switching man causes a LOT of problems.

Yeah Johnston beat us by 30 or better earlier this year. CF will probably take another step back next year. It will be the KF show and that’s about it.

I am not aware if Iowa is looking at Finley. Anyone know?

With Iowa going for elite talent on the national stage it’s easy to overlook that the state of Iowa produces some very good girls bb players, Finley, Lower from CCA, The Muller sisters at Dowling, Fandel from Xavier are all really good players.

Iowa becoming more of a national recruiter should be very good for Drake and UNI.

She definitely looks the part. Good size already, basketball body already and she’s gorgeous.🙂 Drake’s getting a good one

In the portal era I could also see it being a good thing for Iowa. If those recruits go to Drake or UNI and play early for a couple years they could develop faster than they might've at Iowa. Iowa could then be in a good position to land them in the portal if it has a need and the player(s) decide they want to test major conference basketball.

Layla Hays gets another double-double against the #3 rated team.
Her stat line: 20 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 blocked shot

Looks like she left some points on the court as well. Have to clean up those FTs.

4A Roundball Roundup: Top-ranked Wasilla ekes by No. 3 MCCA;

"The No. 1-ranked Wasilla girls basketball team dug itself out a six-point fourth-quarter deficit to go ahead in the final 24 seconds and pull out a 50-48 victory over third-ranked Mountain City Christian Academy on Tuesday night in the Valley."

"Mylee Anderson split a pair of free throws with 24 seconds remaining and Layla Hays split a pair with 3.9 seconds on the clock to provide the difference for the Warriors."

"From there, the starters took over with Savannah Kroon and Kyndra Boling hitting big buckets while Hays scored half of Wasilla’s final 10 points.

Hays, a 6-foot-5 all-state center headed to the Big Ten, led the way with 20 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and one blocked shot. Mielee Merchant was her team’s next closest scorer with nine points."

"Wasilla did not look sharp, especially Hays, who missed some close shots she normally makes and continued to struggle at the free-throw line, missing seven of nine attempts. Even still, she was the best player on the court; so much so MCCA outscored Wasilla by eight when she was on the bench.'

Lauren Walker Dewitt Central? She plays hard and she shows a lot of toughness. This is definitely a girl that could be heading to the portal someday. She has to be the most underrated player in the state of Iowa. I’ve seen her play three times. She’s a fantastic player. She committed to Lewis University,? don’t get it. She averages 25.2 points a game, 58% field goal shooter, 48% three-point shooter, and shoots 84% from the free-throw line.
