Wisconsin leads the series all-time with 44 wins, 42 losses, and two ties. From 1977 through 1996 Iowa beat Wisconsin 17 straight times, the longest winning streak in the series. (The two teams played to a 10-10 tie in 1984.) Nine of those 17 wins came in Madison.
Iowa last beat Wisconsin 20-10 in 2009 in a game played in Madison.
The last three games have been played in Iowa City with Wisconsin winning 31-30 in 2010, 28-9 in 2013, and 26-24 last season. A case could be made that Iowa could have, if not should have, won all three.
We all know the fake punt fiasco that gave Wisconsin the 31-30 win in 2010. Then in 2013, Iowa's defense was fabulous and gave the Iowa offense the ball in Badger territory over and over and over again in the first half, but the JR-led offense could do very little despite the fabulous field position.
Near the end of the first half Wisky completed a 44-yard TD pass despite good Iowa coverage to take a 7-6 lead.
Here are some excerpts from the ESPN recap of that game: Rudock threw a terrible ball into coverage that was picked off by Darius Hillary at the Iowa 20. Stave then found a wide-open Abbrederis for a touchdown and a 14-6 lead.
"I definitely think that was a momentum shift for us. It gave us a lot more energy and then for them it was the exact opposite. They kind of shut down a little bit," Hillary said.
Iowa got inside the Badgers 12-yard line three times, but had to settle for field goals of 28, 22 and 29 yards from Mike Meyer. The Hawkeyes were held to just three points in the second half by an opportunistic Wisconsin defense.
"The turnovers played a key role in this football game. When these two teams play for years to come it's going to be just like that," [Head Coach Gary] Andersen said. (Link: http://espn.go.com/college-football/recap?gameId=333062294
And last season, of course, Iowa was a 3rd down stop away from victory in that 26-24 loss at Kinnick.
So that's where things stand going into Madison on Saturday. Iowa has had Wisconsin on the ropes three straight times only to lose all three. That changes this time. These Hawkeyes beat the Badgers in the latest installment of this great rivalry and add another trophy to the 2015 collection.

Wisconsin scored twice in the final minutes, so the score failed to reflect how close that game was. And BTW, Iowa held Melvin Gordon to 62 yards rushing. And last season, of course, Iowa was a 3rd down stop away from victory in that 26-24 loss at Kinnick.
