Iowa Womens Bball Portal Targets

This is the correct read. Was shocked to hear the Swarm guy say on the other site's podcast that, as a result of the recent efforts, they had only received "somewhere between $10,000-$15,000 [in WBB donations] over and above what [he] would have expected in random or average donations." Thought success would have prompted more $$$.

Anyway, time to move on to Maddie Scherr, would many would have preferred in any event.
Surprised greatly to see that some of the experts on this thread were wrong . Hard to imagine ! Welcome Lucy ! It's GREAT to be a HAWKEYE !

Besides all of the obvious reasons why this commitment is exactly what this team needed for next year, here are my favorite things about this news:

1) It's another sign of changing winds. Iowa is becoming more of a destination. Heiden, Deal, Olsen. All from farther away than usual, but became fans of the program from afar and wanted to join the fun.
2) Not only does it likely prevent us from losing too much momentum before the 2025 class comes in, this actually adds to our momentum. This is a splashy commitment. Lucy is not only highly regarded, she was highly in demand.
3) Speaking of which, this is the second recruit to choose Iowa over LSU in just a couple of months :)
4) Bluder doesn't have to burn any eligibility years with a younger transfer. We still have 3 scholarships open for 2025. Still on track for a potentially excellent recruiting class.

The timing of this is perfect. The staff is going to walk into one of the biggest recruiting weekends of the year with an incredible amount of momentum. Back to back championship games, 2 WNBA draft picks, team members getting national media coverage, high profile portal addition. Having an Iowa coach at your court is going to carry some weight.

So the "Caitlin Effect" is in fact coming to fruition, and shows that Bluder/Iowa can not only recruit players from big-time west coast programs, but also make a portal splash. So this is huge, not just for next season, but for the perception of the program moving forward. Compare; if Iowa was NOT able to land a good PG in the portal, to getting Lucy over so many competitors. Monumental difference.

Exactly, I read something about a player and I can't recall who now but they mentioned iowa as being a powerhouse program along with some other elite schools that were in contention for her. I thought that sounded pretty cool

Still so happy and excited that Olsen is going to be a Hawkeye! She is going to do big things playing Bluderball. It's going to be fun.

Bummer there wasn't another open spot for Scherr. Will be curious to see how she does next season.
Hoping one of the other Hawkeyes steps up and separates to a higher level of play--or one of the freshmen comes in on fire.

Is Scherr still making the trip to Iowa today or was it canceled??

Must have someone with deep pockets all of a sudden.
TCU's coach Campbell is the former Asst Coach at Oregon, who were basically Iowa before Iowa (well actually, a lot more talented than Iowa overall and it's not particularly close). He was an ELITE recuiter and an ELITE guard developer. He recruited Sabrina Ionescu, Sedona Prince, Satou Sabally, Sydney Parrish, Taylor Mikesell, Maddie Scheer, Tahina Paopao, Jaz Shelley, and numerous other highly talented players. Unfortunately despite his best efforts, Oregon started to backslide after their Final Four run due to their HC being, well, an asshole. It's an open secret that Kelly is a dick and his players hate him. Sydney Parrish has said *twice* to the media that playing BB at Oregon made her hate the sport and she considered retiring before coming home to Indiana.

Anyway, Campbell left Oregon for his new job at TCU at the end of last season and it completely fell apart and they had about as bad of a season as possible. They have literally lost 20+ McDonald's All Americans the past 3-4 years to the portal. Entire recruiting classes. Plural. Total dumpster fire.

In contrast, Campbell's first season at TCU started out really strong, they even entered the Top 25, but then basically his whole team got injured and they had to forfeit some games b/c they didn't have enough players to field a team. He has been recruiting well and they will be a Top 25 team again next year. He is now bringing back many former Oregon players like Prince and Scherr. Prince is coming back for a 6th year (she retired from WBB out of OR (wonder why), but came back to play for him at TCU last year and said Campbell is the only person she'd do that for).

Aw, that's right I remember when they had to forfeit games because of injuries.

Kinda looks like she was waiting to see if Olsen committed to Iowa...or just coincidence that she announced TCU the next day.
Yeah, the question here is, was she strongly considering Iowa versus TCU or was she likely to end up at TCU but found Iowa to be an interesting alternative? Would have loved to have them both on the roster for next year.

I think that Olsen was Plan A for Iowa, but if she did not commit right away then they had Scherr scheduled two days later for Plan B. I am guessing Scherr would have committed if things worked out that way. Olsen was clearly Iowa's first choice, but they didn't want to end up empty handed.
