Iowa Women's Wrestling

I can see ASU with a very good women’s team, their west coast pipeline would be extremely strong.
That means that they'll have to get off their butt and start one.
FWIW, Mark Perry doesn't seem to stay in one place very long, so I wouldn't bet the farm on his help recruiting over the long run.

Any relationship to Zahid I wonder?

They may be related but they live up close to the bay area whereas Zahid and the rest are from LA. Her brother's name is Aden and he is a U15 Freestyle and Greco champ. He is a sophomore and Willie has him at #4 at 126 but I think he is wrestling at 132. Won 106 in Cali last year as a freshman. So this is a damn good pickup for the women's team and could pay dividends for the men's down the road.

This is good stuff indeed, exactly the type dividends I was hoping there would be for both programs.

She and her father were at the Wisconsin meet. They sat with the coach two rows in front of us so my daughter and I showed them our Iowa Women's Wrestling T shirts. Pretty sure that sealed the deal.
Awesome job! Any idea who else was on the visit that weekend??

Chun’s off to a great start....must have a lot on her plate.....wonder when her assistants come on board?

have the women’s coaching staff’s salaries been made public? hope they’re enough to attract some quality coaches

surely as a season ticket holder for the men they’ll give you the chance to purchase your same seats for the women’s meets..... I’m beyond excited about all this..... 5 daughters 5 grandaughters....really love women’s wrestling growing like it is

Would it be the same salary as the mens team? In todays society I think it would almost have to be. This is a double edged sword however. I don’t know how many top programs would be willing to pay a women's coach as much as their top tier male counterpart. In a way I feel they should be paid the same because they will actually have more responsibilities to start with because getting a program up and running isn’t easy. My fear would be that if that was the standard then it would drastically slow down the addition of more programs.

Well I know Chun isn’t making what Brands does..... but his salary is also commensurate with his time and the program success..... Bluder doesn’t make what Fran does either.....doesn’t seem fair on the surface but it’s also about the bottom lines of the programs they coach..... hope I didn’t inadvertently turn this thread into politics with this subject

Yeah good point. It could easily go that way so I’ll shut my trap!

Superb article about superb kids from a superb family. Welcome to IOWA, Nyla. We're lucky to have you.

Just wanted to say that I think it’s awesome Iowa has started a women’s program. I hope it’s the start of seeing it all Big Ten schools and growing overall interest in the sport for all genders.

Who/what is the draw to ASU? I know about their RTC, but is there a person or people there that makes ASU more appealing to them?
We just got a grade A #1 recruit at a targeted weight of one of the Blade sisters.
