I thought of this while looking at the PSU threads this morning for the first time in several years. The first four threads were about Iowa. In the wrestling world, Iowa wrestling is - the Yankees, Notre Dame, Duke basketball, Cowboys (I do hate this comparison for obvious reasons), Celtics, Muhammad Ali - you either love them or you hate them. Not a lot of in between feelings and that is great. Penn State is the top dog now, but it will never surpass Iowa in terms of how many love them and those who hate them.

I think Iowa receiving a lot of attention on the PSU Rivals forum is correlated less with Iowa’s historical success and more with interactions with posters on the Iowa Rivals forum. And vice versa.

Most of the posts are about the other teams’ fans and what they post on their respective sites.

This thread is a case in point.

Another example is the amount of Rutgers “discussion” on the PSU site — 99.83333% triggered by things said by Rutgers fans on their Rivals forum (0.16777% generated by the Suriano transfer). Clearly, we don’t talk Rutgers because of any sort of historical success they’ve had in wrestling.

You guys can’t go a page without mentioning Iowa. Just admit y’all are obsessed with us. It’s okay.

I don’t shy away from that. The obsession is mutual, driven by one another’s internet fans. Not all partake, but enough do that neither site goes a page without taking a crack at the other.
