Hoping for success for Iowa and Ahmad Wagner. Wagner could make Allen Lizard, er Lazard look tame (Had to rhyme something with Ame(s)/ Lame).
Hope Wagner can have a positive impact and experience a winning season and a postseason.
We like 'nifty', right? Or did Ferentz actually call him 'thrifty'?
Do we know for sure he will be pursuing FB at IOWA? I'll be a bit surprised to see him in Hawkeye FB uniform.
Don't quite get this. Seems like they are limiting themselves for no reason. A kid in Florida that doesn't have much money is far less likely to pay his own way for an unofficial. That doesn't mean he is not really interested in going to Iowa.
Interesting that both the exceptions and within driving distance went over your head. I know nothing about this policy, but maybe KF would prefer to have the official visits closer to signing day. You know the old 'out of sight; out of mind' saying right?
Imo "we" should not be creating any obsticles that would hinder our ability to get quality ayhletes in the system. If we are using proverbs I would introduce "when in Rome do as the romans" the romans will be having people on campus in the spring time. Football recruitting is about to be 24/7 365.. some staff's will embrace that, some will not. Imo to say "we want to know if they are interested first" is very insecure, but I'm just an average Joe.
My google-fu skills are weak today, but from what I've found, in 2011 the NCAA limited the numbers of officials that a institution could offer to 56 per year. For the sake of this debate let's say that the number has increased to 65 in 2018.
You're okay with Iowa spending 10 to 20% of these on kids visiting from April to June of their Junior year in high school when the kids interest level isn't very high? That's very insecure in your opinion? That's 5 to 10 less official visits from high school seniors per year.
Only at Iowa. Probably won't give Wagner a scholly either. We love 7-5 at IowaAJE not listed as a #1 is just ****ing stupid.
Prolly only see 1 yr of aj starting, though if he shows he can set an edge and run defend he'll pry jump parkerOnly at Iowa. Probably won't give Wagner a scholly either. We love 7-5 at Iowa

do you really think aj isn't going to get a ton of play time? And people wonder why we can't get many 4*-5* guys. No different from when we stashed an NFL-starting caliber TE on the bench for two seasons. Yeah come to Iowa, you might have gobs more talent than the guy in front of you but hey, he's a senior.
Why would Jackson need to be usurping Ferguson ... isn't he currently listed higher on the depth chart anyhow? Of course, guys ultimately still need to earn this spots ... but Alaric's experience during last season gives him some firm foundations upon which to grow.I assume Jackson will usurp Ferguson by the time the season rolls around, but maybe Dalton is the man. Interested to see what happens with Harrell at RB. Trey Creamer in the 2deep at corner is a great sign.

M. Nelson, Lattimore, and Reiff all saw regular reps at DT last year. Both Hesse and Jansen saw situational reps last year. Jansen is a guy who's been a special teams regular over the past 2 years ... and earned the coaches trust enough to earn more an more positional reps as the season progressed.I thought both Shannon and Linderbaum would both red shirt. Maybe with Nixon's situation, one gets snaps.
Like every guy on the DL ... he still has plenty of improvement yet to make. Hesse is also the best leader we have on the DL too. Expect to see a VERY active rotation on the DL. If he sees the same number of snaps as the starters ... who cares who sees the reps during the first defensive series? Why not start him? He's the biggest talent we have.

You are making way way way too big of deal about “starting”
Oh I hope both Shannon and Linderbaum both red shirt and are ready to compete in 2019. People on here have said they think Linderbaum will be a center. I think he has the attitude for DL.M. On top of the aforementioned observations, while Golston mostly saw reps at DE last year (when he saw positional reps) ... he also saw a few interior reps too.
The point of the above observations being ... I anticipate that we're looking okay at DT both in the short term and the longer term.
Because Fant was obviously our top TE last year, and other then the plays where he flashed his athletic ability, AJ has yet to show that he is consistently better on an every down basis then Hesse. This doesn't mean he won't end up being the starter or playing as many key minutes.Right, so why not start Beyer and list Fant behind him.
My concern is that his grades were evidently borderline coming out of high school, and this is something that should have been shored up last year. Some guys never buckle down and do the work in the classroom, so they can see the field. If this is really no big deal, why is he not eligible? We've sent guys ogg to these Juco's before that have returned, and I don't ever remember any of them coming back, and not being eligible. The Nixon news isn't a huge surprise. It would have been nice to have him in the rotation ... but the flip side of redshirting is that the distribution of guys in term of eligibility will be less "clogged." Furthermore, it will allow Daviyon more time to learn Iowa's defensive system ... and get more comfortable with learning how to keep up his academics.
Matt Nelson will be graduating after the '18 season ... and that will open up a whole lot of reps for DTs in '19.

it appears COULD went over your head
we have money, so why aren't we using it? why do we spend 1/2 of what braska does on recruiting and less than the clowns do?
Because Hesse is a three year starter who is also very good and is the unquestioned culture leader of the DL. So why make the frivolous paper move of demoting him now. Why not just let things play out an in the fall of AJE sepeates himself you make sure he’s on the field for the all snaps he can effectively handle. Getting worked up about spring depth chart is ridiculous.
It's not stupid, it's about respect, I'm sure AJ understands he'll be on the field most of the time.AJE not listed as a #1 is just ****ing stupid.
https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/2015/03/17/football-recruiting-iowa-state/24913477/Can you please provide a link showing that IA ST is spending more on recruiting? You do know that Iowa (and every other school) can only host a certain number of 'official visits' each year? Why waste those visits if the kids don't have a high interest level?
misread the depth chart first time didn't feel like editing post. my bad.Why would Jackson need to be usurping Ferguson ... isn't he currently listed higher on the depth chart anyhow?
