Iowa's best journalist...

Transgenders, students with sex identity questions have no reference material at their disposal? Crafty… u live in a big world. Lots of “new” stuff out there. As long as there are “restrictions” to the material, I have no problem with it in a jr hi/ hi school library. Again crafty… the world is changing whether you like it or not.
I didn't mention any of those things in this instance.

I noticed.you should to add some perspective to this contrived “ issue” of the right.

My kids don't need any perspective on a book that depicts a child giving & receiving oral sex with his cousin.

It's absurd & I'll let this be my last post on the subject.

Because there is still a difference between the job of a parent and the job of the school. If I want to expose my kids to that material, i can go to the public library and do it. My choice. Kids that are in that class don't have a choice on the material they have to use to pass the class not to mention the material goes way beyond a normal sex ed class review.

Like you mentioned earlier, most of these materials are vetted but that doesn't mean that there need to be adjustments when the public learns of the materials as it should be their right.
Yeah, kids today are so open with their parents about these types of problems, Kids and parents communicate so well today…there are more teen suicides today than ever before…. Probably because the parents told their kids just to Jill themselves because they couldn’t fit in… right?

What's hilarious is how many of these parents that complain about this shit probably grew up listening to and singing some of the most vile hard rock and rap lyrics of the '90s and early 00's but this BOOK is probably gonna **** up their kids view of life. Not to mention their kid probably looks at online porn all day.

It's like some people think it's 1955 in Mayberry.

You need to check out the Storm Lake Times sports reporter and his photography. He is definitely a pro and takes amazing pictures.

The fact that he's related to me has nothing to do with it.

My kids have perspective because we have honest talks about the people are transgender, engage in sex at an early age, have two dads, start experimenting with alcohol in junior high, are victims of abuse, are busted bringing a knife to school, vape in the school stales, etc. I'll continue to talk to them about it. It will not be my last conversation on the topic.

See, it's amazing how you can disarm subject matter by explaining it, not idolizing it, and inviting your kids to have perspective on it.

Unless your kids are 10 or under, they probably have seen a blowie on porn. That book isn't changing anything.

Kids and parents not getting a long or seeing eye to eye isn't some earth shattering revelation. It is a story as old as time. So better question, why the huge increase in suicides from past decades to today?

That author is much smarter than many HROT posters. And 100 percent dead-on with his assessment here.

People vastly underestimate the sophistication of children. By 14-18 -- the target audience of this book -- nothing in the passage quoted above is new, shocking, titillating or something that can't be talked about maturely in an academic setting.

Small children are ok to handle those topics in books but can't go without a mask because of a virus that won't hurt them?

Teen Suicide today is a much bigger problem than when I grew up.Lots more on kids plates today….and parents today come in twos styles..they “hover” and refuse to let the kid grow w/o interference or they are detached and want to be their kids friends….Neither is a recipe for success as a kid or as a parent.
My opinion. ONLY.
