Is there anything wrong with it or is it just too new and it will get more packed down with age? Seems like an awful lot of the black dust on every step. More than I have seen from other fields by far.

If you have ever been on that type of field, that is ground up rubber that is worked into the "grass" fibers. This is what is protecting the players when they hit the ground. Annoying that is sticks to your skin, but I actually like the rooster tail, makes it easier to see toes and knees down on the replay.

I know what it is, but it seems like a lot more of it gets kicked up at Iowa's new field than any other field I have seen.

It'll get packed down as it's used more until they sweep it to even it out. Weather will also pack it down.

I know they brush the field and even out the rubber crumbs. Some settling might be normal. The grass However, the manufacturers of the turf are constantly making changes to improve. So perhaps this is by design. I have a buddy who is an expert. I'll ask him next time I run into him.

But like you, I too think there seems to be an unusually high amount of rubber.

Everyone is myopic about their own team. FieldTurf is in a lot of stadiums and Iowa's is probably no different than the rest.

Yes it is brand new this year; takes a while for it to settle in. Probably why you are seeing an uptick in black stuff flying compared to last year.

I've noticed some black streaks from players being tackled. Like the "grass" is being torn up in spots. Never noticed that before.

I agree, but not obviously enough to see Barkley's knee down at the PSU 36 yd line.
