Iowa's Interest in BJ Mack, Others

Yesterday, StockRisers.com shared that Iowa has shown interest in B.J. Mack of Wofford out of the portal. Mack would be a huge get -- i.e. why so man schools have expressed interest so far.

STORY: https://iowa.rivals.com/news/iowa-pursuing-all-socon-big-man-b-j-mack

We'll keep track of other articles regarding Iowa's interest in other portal guys in this thread.
Jordan Minor included Iowa in his top four he announced yesterday.

I will feel a lot better if we hear some good news about Minor or Mack in the next week or so. Getting them on campus as currently scheduled is a big step. Both would be really good additions, although I would prefer Minor because of his defense and rebounding.

What happened with Minor? I saw report that his VA visit went really well, but it said he still planned to visit Iowa. VA is tough competition, but did something more than that happen?

I think Mack is who Fran wants...we'll see if we can reel him in this weekend. I think Rich Byhre will be next in line, if he passes. Bynre has one of the quickest releases on 3 pter's I've seen! Whatever happened to the recruiting of the 7'0" kid at Ellsworth???

Unconfirmed rumors that he has cancelled his trip to Iowa,.. stay tuned.

I think that the Ellsworth kid has some transcript issues AND really hasn’t shown much on the floor. It’s been a while since I checked but his stats were pretty weak. I think it was reported that he had some significant injury before Ellsworth.

Kid looks like a smooth athlete with some skill… a person would think he should be a great player based on his videos.

Where is Bhyre from? Is he a guard?
D2 kid at Rockhurst. 6'8 with range and a quick trigger. He's a pretty stout kid from the video out there.
I might be wrong, but did Iowa play Rockhurst, or have an exhibition against them a few years ago?

40% 3 point shooter. Do we know if this is real interest. First I'm hearing of this kid.

How does Byhre compare to Duncan Robinson (Michigan alumnus)? They have similar size and 3-point prowess, and Byhre also would be coming from a much lower division program. Robinson didn't do much besides shoot the three while at Michigan.

Bummer, but no surprise as SC had the edge given proximity to home and existing relationships with some of the players and staff.

For anyone in the know or happen to have heard anything, are we continuing to look at other portal transfers as I haven't seen Iowa linked to any transfers (but I don't follow it that closely) or are we moving forward with who we have?

I watch portal players some and have not seen Iowa mentioned anywhere other than Mack. But there are a lot of portal players, so........... Given history I really do not expect much from the portal at Iowa.

This reeks of desperation… but I don’t blame you. The way things stand now, this team could blow next year.

I have concerns about next year too. On paper, we'll be less experienced and less talented than we were last year. There are some reasons for optimism (starters in bold as I see it anyway) though I think...

1. Bowen, Harding, Dix, and possibly Nimmers have got to be better options than Ulis at starting PG; although with less experience.

2. Perkins and Dix have yet one more year experience. Nimmers may be playing the 2 spot as well, conflicting reports on that as people know. Perkins will likely be the featured offensive weapon next year.

3. PMac should be better than last year's version with one more year of experience and stability. Pryce is reportedly a very good player. Payton will be more experienced and better that last year in a back up role if he starts at the 4 spot as I think he will. Still will be a major step down from Kris M of course.

4. Payton: I subscribe to the thought Payton will be the starting stretch 4. He's plenty tall enough and hopefully is hitting the weight room this off season. He's likely going to be our second featured offensive weapon. Ladij and Freeman are very promising recruits. We'll miss Connor's experience but am optimistic Payton will be better at the 4 spot than Connor; for sure offensively.

5. Krikke and Brauns will be solid at the 5 spot. Mulvey may give us some minutes here too. A step down from Rebraca but we're deeper this year than last.

Would have been nice to land one more transfer but Krikke and Brauns are pretty solid additions I think.

I think this means Brauns now gets a scholly instead of walking on.
I suspect you're both right gentlemen. It appears we're rolling with what we have (as I too haven't seen IA linked to any other recruits) and think both Brauns and Nimmers get the open rides.

This is not a surprise. It's too bad and we'd be upset if we couldn't get him on campus. He would have done good things here, IMHO
