You must not have been around in Tallahassee in 1970. Wescott fountain froze for 5 days. Temps were 17 for 5 days.I will say it was not uncommon to have several "freeze warnings" each year in north Florida when I was a child.
It's been more like one or none the past several years.

I’m going to “test” my snowblower tomorrow in prep for later in the week… weather folks talking single digits and 1-3” of snow next weekend… sometimes that first snow is really much worse than predicted…Viewing a few independent YT forecaster types the past few days, they all seem to be saying Winter* Is Coming around roughly the end of next week, and pretty much everything east of the Rockies is going to get something out of it.
* = Lots of snow for lots of sections of the country, much more normal to below normal cold ass temps, etc.
You know...Winter. And as a reminder, that double shot of massive snow and then holy shit it's cold 2 week period after the Snowmageddon began I believe January 8th.
Last night I was in the DM area. We partied outside after sundown until roughly midnight with just a small fire to keep us warm. Usually that's pretty much unthinkable in late December in Iowa.
We've had it easy so far. We're obviously overdue...
It is very common for NW Florida to have freezing weather in the winter. There's no need to put it in parenthesis.I will say it was not uncommon to have several "freeze warnings" each year in north Florida when I was a child.

How is Rhode Island one of the 4? I guess our trip to the keys in a couple weeks is well timed.
Current temp in IC 36. It’s been above freezing for several days with some 40s.
I kept boiling water last time it got that cold in Iowa because....
I'm out of coffee too, but I'm still on Holiday break, so......beer is for breakfast today 🍺🙂Freezing fog in NE IA this AM, and we are out of coffee! Do I venture out or not?
You know I tried that last time it was like -10 outside and it didn't work. Maybe I didn't do it right.
If this holds, we'll be at a total standstill. We have no equipment to clear 5" of snow from the roads.
That is literally the first time I have heard of "gulf effect snow". Lake effect, yes.If this holds, we'll be at a total standstill. We have no equipment to clear 5" of snow from the roads.
I have been told that you can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning. Cheers.I'm out of coffee too, but I'm still on Holiday break, so......beer is for breakfast today 🍺🙂
Wowzers! If this holds, we'll be at a total standstill. We have no equipment to clear 5" of snow from the roads.
Schools around here closed for months during the winter of 76-77.Looks like someone needs to call a WAAAAAAAM-BULANCE.
LOL
When I was at Purdue during the winter of 1976-77, we went 6 weeks from Dec. 29, 1976 to February 8, 1977 and only saw the temperature get above freezing twice; 33 degrees on Feb. 2nd and 35 degrees on Feb. 3rd. We went all of January with no temperature above freezing and a total of 24 days with temperatures below zero during that 6 week stretch. Some days it never got above zero for a high temperature. I lived about 1.5 miles from where most of my classes were held and had to walk that route round trip 2-3 times a day. During that walk, my beard and mustache would freeze together just from my exhaust. It was not a fun time in my life. We all went to Naples, FL for spring break that year.
Below are links to the daily weather reports from the Purdue Airport.

Of course the next winter was the famous Blizzard of 1978.
A purely cold still day doesn’t bother me so much if I’m prepared, it’s the windy super cold days that make me question every life decision I have ever made.
