Is Loyola Chicago a blueblood?

They're the feel good story of the tourney. I hope they hold on and make it to the final four because it's the runs of underdog teams like theirs that make the Dance one of, if not the, best events in all of sports.
I don't see much about what they're doing that relates to Iowa.

If they can field a team of 10 players and make a run to the Final Four, I have hope Iowa can too.

Love Loyola's spirit and grit. Maybe next year with three guards added to our team, we can make some hay. I really do think we'll be better next year.

Can someone list who they beat this tourney and the seed numbers? Great story but some of this is due to dream matchups and props to them as they are cashing in.

Cinderella is going to the Final Four. America loves
to cheer for the underdog. Loyola Chicago is playing
unselfish team basketball at the right time of the season.
Give Loyola some credit they have exceeded the normal
expectations of a #11 seed.

I forgot to add the 7 seed Nevada. When you are an 11 seed they are all earth shattering.

If the best team faced is Tennessee from the SEC which as a conference has been wiped out of the tourney already and coached by Barnes who is notorious for getting knocked out relatively early then I’m giving it a nothing earth shattering here.

They won’t face a 1 or 2 seed this entire tourney because of the early upsets. Not their fault at all but that’s a dream set of matchups for any solid team. You could plug in a number of tourney teams out already and they’d be in the final four with those matchups.

And who did Michigan beat if you are going to use that logic

Actually I would agree to some extent with the same argument for Michigan but if your theory is Tennessee is the best team at a 3 seed that’s where Michigan is.

The opposite side of the bracket has a 1 vs 2 seed and 1 vs 3 seed matchup. This side has a 9 vs 11 and 3 vs 9.

The greater point is sometimes good (non blue blood) teams get a series of breaks in this thing. What a dream to meet a 9 seed Kansas State coached by Weber for a chance to make the final four. Wow!

Can you remember a time when an Iowa tourney team advanced to then faced a 6-7+ seed team? We always seemed to run up against someone highly seeded quickly.

Feel good story nothing more. Try and remember their last appearance was 1985.

Loyola has never been a blue blood. Since college basketball became more than a local or regional item the school has had more losing seasons than winning seasons. I'll use 1950 as a starting point. since then they have had 17 winning seasons and 41 losing seasons. Nothing about them says blue blood. They have finished first in their conference three times since 1980 as they were an independent before then. They had a six year period where they made the tournament 4 times, winning it once, bowing out in the first round twice and in the second round once. They made the NCAA tournament one other time in 1986 for a grand total of 6 appearances including this year.
This year they are a good team that has gotten hot at the right time.
Not trying to take anything away from this years team, but a comparison to Iowa which everyone agrees isn't a blue blood might be appropriate. Same time frame, Iowa has made the NCAA tournament 24 times. They have had 48 winning seasons and 18 losing seasons.

Wow, it's pretty embarrassing when Iowa fans try to ridicule Loyola for making the Final Four. Sure, all they did was win four games. I think Iowa's longest winning streak this season was TWO . . . and that was in the weak Big Ten, not the NCAA tourney.

Get a grip, people. Loyola has a better basketball team than Iowa . . . MUCH better. And Iowa isn't going to get better because Hawkeye fans are jealous of Loyola's success. That little team from Chicago is now where Iowa has not been since 1980. Get over it.

Knocking an MVC team who was an 11 seed for "not playing anybody" to get the FF might be the saltiest shit I've read on here in some time.... They beat a team tied for third in the ACC, the First place team in the SEC, the First place team in the MWC, and the third place team in the BIG12, so regardless of this "easy path" to the FF, these were all legit regular season teams, and Loyola handled their business. Every year there's a complaint of a team having an easy route to the finals... Sorry but an 11 seed from the Missouri Valley doesn't count, no matter how you spin it. I'll take this Loyola matchup with Michigan over, Arizona/UNC or Virginia/Xavier all day. All day
