What about military, police and firemen?

That's all government.

Are they "useless?"
Government armies, police forces and fire departments are unnecessary for the most part. Governments with armies make war - for profit. Wars aren't started by private humans, who for the most part want peace and/or to be left alone.

Everyone wants to live at the expense of the state. They forget that the state wants to live at the expense of everyone.

Depends if the ancient texts are fact or opinion I guess.

The more these things are researched though, the more the stories seem plausible, as places, geographic features, etc. are continually discovered that provide support to biblical depictions.

Now you can certainly draw lines between what's provable, faith, and religion, which are all very different.
The ancient texts were a con.

You think having private police would be better?

What if a guy like Donald Trump or El Chapo turned one into their own private army?

My inherent problem with religion is that it serves to form tribes. Even when the message is all warm-and-fuzzy towards all things, it still serves to create a tribe. Once a tribe is created, tribal thinking is also created.

Occasionally I am challenged for my atheism. I always say that secular humanism is a better depiction of my spirituality. One of my defenses for my spirituality is that there is no tribe for this. If anything, it makes my tribe everyone. And, as such, I think it helps me actuate "liberty and justice for all" and similar sentiments.

Tribal thinking is a lot to blame, IMO, for how different lives get valued differently.
This is a really good depiction of religion.
Just read the King James version of the Bible for yourself. You don't need any interpretation from anyone. All the facts you need are right there.
The King James Version is awful. Probably the worst English translation.
im not saying ancient aliens GIF by Giffffr
Actually, if you properly interpret Elohim as “powerful ones,” then the Genesis story depicts human beings being created in the image of Elohim, or powerful ones, meaning anunnaki or “sky people.” Other ancient texts outside the Bible have similar stories. So, yes, according to Genesis, we were created by aliens.
He can't because he never read the Bible. There are absolutely no contradictions in the Bible.
Okay. Line up all four gospel accounts of the resurrection story then get back to us.

I’m serious, I believe it was aliens, it’s the only thing that makes sense.

The King James Version of the Bible is the closest translation to the original Greek text. Most if not all of the Bible translations after the KJV are garbage. The words and phrase have either been added or omitted when compared to the original Greek.
