Is a gay candidate electable?

I say no, unfortunately. Still too many people who are repulsed by anything or anyone LGBTQ.

Is a gay candidate currently electable in the US? Yes, if they are a real populist and a change candidate. If they are near the democrat establishment they wouldn't do well.

I just don't think it's a significant negative. Could be a negative, but not something that couldn't be overcome.

Sort of like Obama being black. People were saying the same thing about being black. And it probably was a negative. (possibility it wasn't, technically) But it didn't prove to be one that couldn't be overcome easily enough with an otherwise good candidate.

When I repatriated back to the United States in 2008, I was honestly surprised by the number of Americans that seriously believed - and still do - that Barack Obama was a gay man and that his wife is trans. One of the most ridiculous urban legends in American history.
