The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance: The latest classic to be resurrected by Hollywood is John Ford's 1962 Western The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, which stars Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne as a pair who once banded together against the titular outlaw, played by Lee Marvin. The new version, which will be produced by Matt Jackson (End of Watch) for Paramount, might be set in the steel industry in the 1980s.

The steel industry?

The 1980s?

So instead of a lawyer coming to town, we get an environmental activist? And Liberty Valance is the CEO of a steel company and a polluter? And the environmental activist supposedly shoots the CEO?

And what are they going to do to the song?

Yikes!!!!

The one thing I like about this is that they are smart enough to not try remaking the original. I don't get the steel industry thing either. Maybe we shoot the evil Chinese steel representative...

Great film, loaded with stars at their best.

BAU for Hollywood to use the title from a classic and try to tell a different story using current, eye-candy stars. No original ideas there.

I was resistant when I heard the Cohen's were going to remake "True Grit", but they pulled it off. Good script and cast. Stayed pretty close to the original. Bridges is no John Wayne, but Damon & Steinfeld were great.

There were environmentalists in the 80's? No one will buy that hollywood fiction.

"Well we're living here in Allentown
And they're closing all the factories down
Out in Bethlehem they're killing time
Filling out forms
Standing in line
Well our fathers fought the Second World War
Spent their weekends on the Jersey Shore
Met our mothers in the USO
Asked them to dance
Danced with them slow
And we're living here in Allentown

But the restlessness was handed down
And it's getting very hard to stay

Well we're waiting here in Allentown
For the Pennsylvania we never found
For the promises our teachers gave
If we worked hard
If we behaved
So the graduations hang on the wall
But they never really helped us at all
No they never taught us what was real
Iron and coke
And chromium steel
And we're waiting here in Allentown

But they've taken all the coal from the ground
And the union people crawled away

Every child had a pretty good shot
To get at least as far as their old man got
But something happened on the way to that place
They threw an American flag in our face

Well I'm living here in Allentown
And it's hard to keep a good man down
But I won't be getting up today

And it's getting very hard to stay
And we're living here in Allentown"
