No, America Wasn’t ‘Founded’ By Immigrants

This might help some of you discern the difference between settlers and immigrants. Maher begins by talking about Israel but then expands into the overarching role Western ideals had in the founding of this country.

Btw, to all the people who believe you are living on stolen land why don't you put your money where your mouth is and ...

Perhaps you should consider investing in a thesaurus, so you don't have to use "stupid" three times in two sentences. Just a thought since you know, you're obviously smarter than the OP, and not just one of the elitist lefties that people would like to smack around for the fun of it.
You and your mom are both welcome to come try.

Correct. Invaders is the correct term. That's exactly what I would have used to describe what happened. They came to a land they knew was inhabited by indigenous people with the full intent of taking the land. That's not what this Federalist article infers. The author basically states that these lands were there for the taking as if no prior claims to it existed.

Invaders. That's what conservatives are calling these people coming to the southern border today, however these people aren't coming in an organized effort to take over the country as was done earlier. Most of them are true immigrants that are simply looking for a better life for them and their families, just as millions of other people from which most of us have descended have for 100's of years. Give us your tired, your poor, your unwashed. That's what this country was built and thrived upon and no bullshit revisionist history is going to change that.

Fix the border. Fix the immigration system. Stop demonizing people who want a better life.
Sorry, but that is the problem. You don't "fix" the immigration system by telling everyone to just come on in (like Biden). Doing that basically says you don't have an immigration system.

Now, I could could not care less about exactly how this country started when the British sent the colonist over here. It is history and that is all to me. We live in the here and now, and the fact that over 3500 people on the terror watch list came in either unvetted or worse yet, stopped and released it the biggest issue.

For over 100 years people have come here looking for a better life and they took the steps to make that happen. There is absolutly nothing evil about asking folks to follow a process to get a better life that millions have done before the last 4 years.

But, I do agree that it should not take 10 freaking years to make that happen for those that are looking for that.

What is the problem? Did I say the problem would be "fixed by telling everyone to just come on in" ?

Using your words, it IS evil to demonize an entire group of people who are simply looking for a better life because, as is the case with every group of people, there are bad seeds among them. That has become a common theme among conservatives and in particular this administration. They don't want to fix the system to allow more legal immigration, particularly with respect to Latinos. If they did it would be done.

You did not have to say anything to see the proof of where you stand on this issue. The fact that you supported a president and party that did open the borders wide and let in 3500 people on the terror watch list is one. In addition, over 300,000 children are now lost in this country with many probably being sex trafficed or in some type of slave labor due to the open border. Talk about these poor kids not getting a better life.

And, where have I (a conservative) demonized an entire group of people? Please quote where I said that? I don't believe I have heard any conservative say anything about not wanting to increase LEGAL immigration.

Ahh. So you're a mind reader with poor reading comprehension skills. Got it.

You're also going to play dumb now and act like there isn't a racist undercurrent of white replacement theories coming out of the right whenever the topic of immigration comes up.

You were the one who falsely claimed you were using "My words", and then failed to reference any actual words that I said to try and make a point.

And, why would you even bring up replacement theory? I never said anything about that.
Do I believe there are people who believe that theory is taking place. Sure. I simply don't happen to be one of them.

I've just arrived at the conclusion that I'm talking to a wall.

No, America Wasn’t ‘Founded’ By Immigrants

The OP posted a great article. I would urge people to pay particular attention to this portion. It is absolutely key to gaining an idea of who we are:

"America was founded by Anglo Protestants who pulled ideas of liberty and independence from Anglo-liberalism, which grounded itself in the idea of equality, freedom, and government controlled by the people (it was most commonly associated with thinkers like John Locke)."
...................

During the Enlightenment period along with the Reformation many great "thinkers" with great ideas about how to self-govern without a Pope, or any other sort of religious Pubah came forward. John Locke, David Hume, Adam Smith and many more.. John Knox deserves a mention as well.

Citizens on all levels need to understand where our founding principles came from and what they were. This leads us to the notion of assimilation and away from the notion of an open door.

48 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence were born in America. Two were born in England (Button Gwinnett, Robert Morris), two in Ireland (George Taylor, Matthew Thornton), two in Scotland (James Wilson, John Witherspoon), one in Northern Ireland (James Smith), and one in Wales (Francis Lewis).
