Is this the dumbest Iowa team ever?

Too many... Unfortunately, the bonehead plays ultimately come down on the player, but it is also a sign one way or the other of poorly or well coached teams.

So, if ISM lets the ball hit the turf and it bounces into play and Nebraska recovers it, what would you be saying? The ball would have landed at about the one or two yard line had ISM not caught it. While not likely, it's possible the ball could have bounced backward or to the right, staying in the field of play, and Nebraska could have easily recovered it. That was probably one of the most well-placed kickoffs you'll ever see. It's not like he stepped out on purpose.

Regardless, Nebraska is terrible and there's no way Iowa should lose this game.

Unfortunately we always find ways to screw up something that should be easy.

My problem with that play is that he should have been set before his momentum carried him out.

Yeah, it wasn't a good play, no doubt. And he clearly misjudged the ball, which happens to everyone. Even MLB players misjudge fly balls at times.

My point is the play wasn't as dumb and boneheaded as it seemed. And, as you saw on the kickoff return, ISM gives you big-play potential on special teams.

He probably should have....before he caught it....I think that’s a penalty on kicking team...it is in nfl anyway...saw ed reed do it once.

I'm not sure what the rule is on that. I've never seen it.

So if the returner has a foot out of bounds when he catches the ball it's a penalty on the kicking team? Never heard of it.

It's easy to criticize him because he screws up so often. Rewatching that play, there is no excuse for what he did.

I'm just glad he didn't cost Iowa this time.
I agree dumb play and he has had some drops. He'll first carry of the year he fumbled but he is young he will progress

At the time, stupid play. Let it land and go out of bounds or into the end zone for a touch back or at the 35.

Afterwards, it's a learning lesson for him to know not to catch it that close to the sideline since it all worked out with a 99 yard touchdown drive that ripped out Nebraska's heart and will to win the game.

Packers did this in a game this year. Penalty on the kicking team in the NFL... Not sure for ncaa. Hawkeye special teams coaches and the players SHOULD know the rules

So Wirfs multiple offsides is Kirks fault......Some of it is focus, some of it is kids trying to hard, but a coach can only do so much.....Tristan is a really good kid who was playing against Solon and Lisbon last year, pretty big jump

No it isn't Kirk's fault... But well coached teams (that goes beyond X's and O's), are disciplined teams that minimize boneheaded plays and mental errors...

It is so easy for us to criticize. I agree at the moment it is a tough call for the returner. He is young he will learn. Go hawks
I was sitting in that corner and with the wind... it was tough to judge. I thought it was going out of bounds... irregardless, it cost the team 24 yards at min. The only explanation is that the ball did hang up for a while and i think he felt pressure to get it so Nebraska didnt

I said I wasn't sure. He certainly made a dumbass play, but that seems par for the course for him.
i think he was in no mans land . there were risks no matter what he did.

no guarantee that it was going out of bounds.

Irregardless is not a word. Are you the dumbest fan ever?

How many times this season has an Iowa player made bonehead plays?
Just wondered after reading your title, do you watch every college game played? Do you think its only teenagers that play for Iowa that make mistakes? Do you think a first year player making an error in judgement fielding a ball makes him dumb? Is it possible as a team, that we have quite a few mistakes this year, because we have so many young or first year players at skill positions? Ever had someone sit and watch everything you do at work for a day, and then critique every mistake you made when you were 18 years old? Maybe your post is one of the dumbest ever? Hmmm.....

True freshmen at Iowa are at least 18 years old and have been playing football for many years already. Inexperience is not an excuse.

Absolutely. There's no excuse for an 18 year old making a mistake. You guys ever watch NFL Bloopers? Think they were all trying to do those screw ups? Think Marshall for Minnesota wanted to run 70 yards the wrong way for a TD?
