Every time I see "Boko Haram" in the news, I think Procol Harem and "Whiter Shade of Pale".

Which is about 180 degrees from Boko Haram.

I don't entirely dismiss this alliance, but I do doubt how much of an impact this will have. As the story suggests these are radically different groups who practice their brand of Islam differently. ISIS has shown no tolerance for anyone that practices Islam differently than them.
Does it inspire Boko Haram to be more violent, or help them become more media savvy and recruit better? That is a danger.
The ability to destroy Boko Haram rests entirely with the Nigerian government. They simply refuse to root out the corruption, social inequality and economic inequality that has bred Boko Haram.
