ISU #14 AP

The bad part is...HAD Iowa lost to ISU it would have been viewed as a bad loss at the time by everybody.

ISU has @ West Virginia next week, then vs Okie State. They win those two and they go 10-2 and win the B12.

Too bad they had to play Iowa this year, killed their strength of schedule. Maybe they should get rid of Iowa off their schedule in the future and play a real P5 team, it does nothing to help them and can only hurt them.

Iowa’s the only P5 team they’ve played at home in 20 years. Maybe this run will prevent them from playing road games at Akron in the future!

I get you are being sarcastic but we would all be okay with playing a p5 team with a win against a top 25 team (not at the time) that has 5 wins with 4 games to go. Come on now... that just doesn't happen at ISU outside of once every 5 or 6 years.

By the way, congrats to ISU. Well deserved.

Jealousy isn't pretty, gang. I hate ISU, and most ISU fans I know are obnoxious, but I have to appreciate the challenges ISU football has and the fact that ISU is, so far this season, overcoming them brilliantly.

What's wrong with giving credit where credit is due? When Iowa beats top 5 teams, we're all pretty excited about it, even if other people claim those teams were overrated, right?

Iowa State had NEVER beaten a top five team, EVER, and now they've beaten TWO just this month. And now ranked in the top 15 in the country? Congrats to them. I hope they keep it going and win the Big 12, something else they've never done.

It's unbecoming of Hawkeye fans to belittle ISU. I hate them, but I respect what they've accomplished this season.

Jealous? Hardly. They could win multiple national championships in FB and BB, and Iowa could lose every game in every sport for 10 years, and Iowa is still better than Iowa State.

Historically they are still a joke. The “love” you are seeing for them now is more like an “Isn’t that cute?” attitude from the media. They are going to need to string together several years of winning/bowl games to even sniff relevancy.

But ypure just telling Iowa fans what they want to hear. Many want ISU off the schedule by any means necessary.........

I don't. That's why everyone else has to deal with it. :D

Beat #2 Okie State in 2011. But that was the only top five team they had beaten.

Many games yet to play. Road games at West Virginia and Kansas State, both of which are difficult. KSU has had ISU's number for a number of years. The games almost always have come down to the last possession, and the Wildcats have won all of them. West Virginia has a great offense.

I have a long memory. Cyclones were 5-1-1 and ranked 10th in 1981, didn't win again; they were 6-1 and ranked 9th in 2002, went 1-6 the rest of the way. Don't think they will go 4-0 the rest of the way, and won't be surprised if we go 2-2 or even 1-3. Will probably only be clear favorites at Baylor.

My dream scenario would be to finish 4-0 and play Texas in the league championship game. Possible, but it ain't gonna happen.

Ya, all that really matters is who you are this season, this game, what have you done lately?

I get that if ISU is having a better season, you go historical comparisons. Or if ISU wins the game, you go super bowl analogy. Got it. :)

Speaking of next game, go beat OSU.

I understand your point and remember the 2002 season well. However, I don't think any of that applies now (new era, new coaches, new players). However, as an Iowa fan, I understand the attraction to cautious pessimism.

There are a lot of possible scenarios for how these next four games play out (although I would be shocked if they lose to Baylor). For me, if I'm an Iowa State fan, I'm most interested in how this team responds to one) higher expectations and two) the first time they face real adversity. Since coming back against Oklahoma, they've been pretty much on cloud nine. Now that they are going to be the hunted, how do they respond to it? How does this team respond if, for example, they get a bad turnover at WV and/or happen to get down double-digits early?

The psychology is much different when you are expected to win. Should be interesting. One thing is for sure, though, this Iowa State team is more than capable of winning out.

The Big 12 has a Conference championship game this year pitting the top two teams, so even if they finish out 4-0 they will have to play either Oklahoma or TCU again at a neutral site( I think Jerry Jones' stadium in Dallas)

Confidence is a helluva thing. They seem to be playing with a lot of confidence. Good for them. And good for us that they're not dragging our SOS into the gutter.

The poll that matters has not come yet, and won't for several more weeks. What we know at this moment is that ISU is deserving of a ranking two Sunday's from now that could be different. I prefer to let the season play out before I concern myself with rankings.

They are 6-2 with 2 wins over opponents who were rated in the Top 5 at the time. How are they overrated at #14?

I don't think enough of you realize that a lot of these posts make Iowa fans look ridiculous.
You know how rankings work. They do deserve the #14 ranking. I doubt they are the 14th best team in the country. Wisconsin is #4. They have a nice team and a favorable schedule. They aren't the 4th best team in the country.

You make some excellent, intelligent points (in other words, I agree).

I would maybe hesitate a bit on the lack of facing real adversity. They go into Texas Tech, which is smarting from last year's ass-kicking, and on the first possession Kempt throws a pick and the Zorros score a quick TD. I was certainly feeling like that was adversity. Yesterday TCU ran the second half kickoff back for a TD and then proceeded to drive to the ISU 10. Again, adversity....and at about that time, ISU's best defensive player left the game with an injury.

I think next week may not be a happy Sunday for Cyclone fans. West Virginia has a very good offense. The sister-kissers handled us easily in Ames last year. The opening line has them favored by a bit more than a field goal. ISU has to deal with all the hype and emotion from yesterday, PLUS the fact that Okie State is coming to town the next week. A letdown is to be expected, IMHO.

Congrats to the Clones. Good for the state of Iowa on the national football scene IMO.

I didn't watch the Texas Tech game, just saw the score, so you got me there. Point conceded. I did watch most of the TCU game, though, and while I agree there were momentum-changing plays, my point was ISU was never trailing in that game.

All of that said, the main point is the psychology is a lot different now that ISU is a serious contender for the conference title. How do they respond to that added pressure? We will see.

Yeah, I agree with all of that. Pretty much the same situation with Iowa in 2015. You can't fault a team for winning football games.

What do mean by “huh”? I would rather be a fan of a perennially losing Iowa program than be a cyclone fan. Ugh!

You said Iowa State could win a bunch of national championships and Iowa could lose every game and Iowa would still be better. That's absurd.

Now, if you had said Iowa State could win national championships and Iowa could lose every game and you would still like Iowa better, your point would be more intelligible and far less ridiculous.

Iowa state ranked in top 15
Okay that just leaves:

Bigfoot
Loch Ness monster
Aliens

And I will have seen it all!!!

Iowa fans know all about getting a ranking they don’t deserve, see 2015 Iowa football for proof. Therefore we can take your post as the truth, who better to know these things then Iowa fans?

I am not an ISU fan as Lone Clone can attest. Actually not a fan of their fans more than programs especially being in Ankeny. But kudos to them. They are playing great especially on D. Congrats to them. I don't know how good the Big 12 is but don't know how good any conference is honestly. They are playing with great confidence and look pretty darn good. Good luck to them the rest of the way. And Pollard better get that checkbook ready!
