USA Today has ISU as the second worst team of all the P5 teams. And yet this is our marquee out of conference game. Will someone with more pull or money than me get this game off our schedule. Nice we give ISU a sellout every other year and give them pub in the paper and radio but this is a joke and a lost leader for the Hawks.

You shouldn't kick ISU off the schedule, if they're as crappy as you say they are, you'll probably beat them every year. Shoot, you'll probably beat them by 50 next week, cause you're so good, right?

I'm for getting rid of the Iowa State game too. Or play them as often as we do UNI.

We've beaten this topic to death, though. Iowa gains nothing from playing Iowa State. Win, and "yawn." Lose, and you're the laughingstock of college football. It's a lose-lose scenario. We all know that.

However, I know someone will bring up that Iowa fans wouldn't want to get rid of the game if Iowa State were losing every game. I've considered that point, and while I think it has some merit, I also realize that I don't get any joy beating Iowa State. I feel relieved not to deal with the embarrassment of it, but never proud or gleeful when Iowa beats Iowa State.

So, I think the point of Iowa State having a near .500 (4-6) record over the last 10 years against Iowa is just window dressing. Because the fact still stands that Iowa State gains everything by this game and Iowa gains nothing--even when they win.

Yep, I knew this was coming. Smh.

Have thought for a while 2 on 2 off would make everyone happy. Not completly dropping series so the people who love this game won't complain that much. Gives both schools flexibility in scheduling.

I'm sure you feel the same playing Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Rutgers and Maryland because those losses would be pretty humiliating as well.

Oh wait...10 - 10.

You've got it pegged EZ2B. A win is meh. A loss and Iowa looks like a joke. Better games to be scheduled that could do more for the program.
Reality, though, is this game isn't going away.

Who was the worst?
I'd like to know who the only team worse than ISU is. Link??

That said, I like the cyhawk series! Why not get rid of miami oh or NDS game? No reason not to have 2 power 5 non conf games!

Gimme UNI, ISU, and another power 5 and I'd be a happy camper :)

I'm sure the way we feel about having to play some of those teams is in many ways similar to how Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Baylor, West Virginia, TCU, Texas Tech, and even to some extent Kansas, feel about having to play the Clowns. With the exception being that their risk of humiliation would be greatly magnified relative to ours, of course.

UNI? Really? We should not be playing FCS schools at all. I'm glad that's going away.

Maybe, I'd be embarrassed if ISU lost to those schools, not saying we haven't lost equally embarrassing games but I don't envy any of them.

With the potential always there for Illinois, it's conceivable that some years Illinois, NW, NE, WI, MN each would be top 30 teams, at the same time that top-15 PSU,OSU & MI each could be crossovers for Iowa. Those years, cream-puff breaks against ISU & Miami (Ohio) would be blessed! Careful what you wish for.

Please educate yourself about the 9 conference game schedule! We've discussed this over and over. If you want 7 home games per year, you either play no other P5 team OOC aside from Iowa State or you drop them and find home&homes with different P5 teams.

I'm already educated on that topic chief..... Thanks though.
I'm perfectly fine with years of 6 home games.
How about we quit letting money dictate who/where kids play football?
They still want to be greedy....get rid of the sports that do nothing but mooch off of football profits!
If we still want to talk money I think 1 year of iowa vs a QUALITY team can create about just as much revenue as 2 years at home vs garbage! I'd certainly spend more money to watch 1 meaningful game vs 2 meaningless games....Hell, I'd probably be more willing just to go tailgate if we were playing 1 game vs lsu, usc, etc than I would to pay to watch us play miami oh. Not even worth the drive(to me, at least)

Maybe you should worry about not losing to uni or another fcs school again as you guys have down twice in past 5 years. Now that's embarrassing

Ok, no prob. You don't want 7 home games, I get it.

3 of the 5 teams you listed are in the East, so we aren't forced to play them every year.

Right, so you live in fantasy land. Good to know.

It's really pretty amazing/amusing how often this same thread occurs. And --shockeroo! -- the same arguments are posted.

Lol. Can't argue with that. I'm just hoping by the time I'm back home from Iowa City this weekend this thread isn't on Page 10.

I said my piece, I'm not adding to it.... After this statement lol

for a season opener warm up sure....
I'd rather play UNI over miami of ohio any day!

I respect your opinion, but at no place, point or time would I ever be interested in a yearly game against UNI. There is no benefit to it other than it being a glorified scrimmage at best , or a playoff breaker and terrible eyesore at worst.

Miami (Ohio) has a football history and is not a FCS school so if we have to have a cupcake I would much prefer a MAC cupcake. My only guess is you'd like us to play a full gauntlet of crappy instate teams to boost fan attendence in the opposing teams bleachers or boost Monday morning water cooler talk with alums?

Iowa is supposed to beat clownville each year handily. The games you mentioned are much more important to Iowa than the yearly clown fest. Those are conference games. Iowa's number 1 goal is to win the conference......not to beat up on a terrible football program like ISU. The clowns cannot set goals like winning the conference. That would be out of the question. Their number one goal is to beat Iowa. Everyone knows that. Their number 2 goal should be to win at least 4 games a year. They should not set their goals too high or the players will get frustrated and give up.

Hate to break it to you guys. Nobody outside Iowa cares about if we lose that game.

Totally wrong NY. Losing to ISU is worse than losing to a good FCS school. ISU is among the least respected schools nationwide. The pundits will have a field day if we lose to ISU. You have been in the Big Apple too long to believe that buddy!

It's common enough now, nobody will make a big deal out of it. Wondering how they rank least respected schools nationwide, I guess this supports your superiority complex.

I'd go play at a good school every other year.
UNI could come to IC every year and play .....like the other crappy schools do :)
I guess we'll see in a few hours, but I bet UNI would give us as much a game as miami. Maybe I'm wrong?

AGR - I said among least respected. And it wasn't me that said it, was the USA Today football writer. You are beyond delusional if anyone outside of Story County realizes ISU has a D-1 program. Brag your record all you want against Iowa but ISU is not little brother, it is not even related to the Hawks. Dear God, we have 5 top 10 finishes in the last 15 years and ISU has never finished in the top 15-20 ever. Sad and pathetic.
