It's National Teacher Appreciation Week.

You should become a teacher then if you think it's so cut and dry.
Of course it is that cut and dry. Are you saying the differences between different teachers is different than the differences between engineers, doctors, lawyers, plumbers, etc? There are good teachers and bad teachers just like there are good engineers and bad engineers employees need to be paid based on how well they do their jobs. Otherwise there is no incentive to work hard and do the right thing.

You act like everyone is paid based off performance but it's not as broad of a thing as you say. Talk to a doctor and engineer. There are bad ones who made good money as well.

You aren't making a good comparison here.

All the people that bitch about teachers having it so well for some reason never want to actually do that job.
Wouldn't want most of them trying. They're disasters in a classroom. Every time there's an economic downturn, here they come. The only one I've ever seen who lasted - and was actually good - was Dr. B who had a PhD in chemistry. He had a life plan - he did research for ten years. He left that to teach middle school science for ten years. Now he works for a non-profit in developing countries. Ten years of that and his plan is to retire. Neat guy...wicked smaht.

Honestly, who here thinks that teachers, except PE teachers, have it “so well”. I’m sort of kidding Tom. Our school district has 1 amazing PE teacher. But the other one might be the laziest teacher I’ve ever seen. My HS PE teacher back in the 80’s was a joke too. It’s rare that PE teachers get any love.

But seriously, who thinks teachers are living the life??? Teachers are the hardest working, self funding, miracle workers I know. There are exceptions, of course, just like in any profession.

We were just talking about this at work. I don't go home exhausted everyday because my job is simple. We have to be "on" every minute we have kids or somebody gets hurt and we're out of a job because the district will need a scapegoat in a lawsuit. Plus, interacting with large groups of kids for 315 minutes a day isn't always a walk in the park.

Everything you said is true. If my equipment breaks I immediately get on Amazon and order a replacement - out of pocket. I'll even have a couple of kids tell me what they think or what colors they want.

I know I'm good at my job, no matter what some of the board righties think about me, which is all political based.

Elementary kids love their PE teachers. Often idolize them. Seeing a PE teacher interested in how they are doing in other subject areas makes them try harder. I am sure you inspire your kids everyday. Thanks for continuing to do the hard work of looking out for all kids. I hope you have a great Teacher Appreciation Week, Tom!

Tom, I lean right and I thank you for your service and dedication to our kids.

Not to mention that I teach reading, math, whatever...depending on the year and what the building needs are. People don't get that. I had to cover some classes outside the last 90 minutes so other classes can do their concert. At one point I think I had about a dozen kindergarteners attacking me over a basketball. Putting me in "jail". One girl said, "In this game we can kick you in the balls." So yeah, you never know what you're going to have each day. lol

In our suburban High School in Illinois, the Head Football
Coach teaches Driver's Education.. The Head Boys Basketball
Coach teaches Physical Education.. The Head Baseball Coach
teaches Driver's Education. Obviously, these men were hired
because of their coaching skills and ability to win conference
championships and go to state tournaments. All three of them
have winning career records and are popular in the community.

Do you also leap tall buildings in a single bound?

Methinks thou doth protest too much.

This was not what I was expecting when I opened this thread. I’m beginning to think this Off Topic stuff isn’t for me.

Northern Hawkeye, I’m proud to be a teacher. We do a lot with less.

Oh, and no, we don’t teach Critical Race Theory or indoctrinate kids with LGBTQ propaganda.

No profession gets attacked on this board more than teachers. That’s with 22+ years of experience on this board.

Actually, I would say it's politicians, but teachers are definitely second. I imagine that most of the attackers have not been near a classroom since they were in school. They really don't have a clue what actually goes on in the classroom and what teachers deal with on a daily basis. Anyway, thanks to all the teachers out there. You are appreciated by me and many others.

Of course there are bad employees making good money and good employees being underpaid. But there isn't a contractual obligation to do so as there is with a teacher's union contract.

I have no problem with most teachers, I do have a problem with teacher's unions. I also have a problem with the recent politicization of our public schools. As a kid, I couldn't tell or care what political party my teachers belonged to. That's the way a public school should be, every citizen is paying for the schools so no one ideology should be stressed or taught.

It wasn't politicized until your side made it political.. Only you hacks care what way teachers vote, not a single 14 year old GAF what their parents/teachers think about politics. Also, you are a bad poster and you should feel bad.

Seriously, thank you to all the hardworking teachers. I admire you for teaching with the way kids can be these days. I wouldn't be able to do it. No troll like the DB OP
