So many want Fran fired and (almost) every player gone off the team. It's been a brutal, brutal year. We know the limitations.

The one thing you can't fault is the overall effort recently. There are some bad plays, terrible positioning on rebounding or help defense, and hero ball plays more times than we want to admit. None of that takes away from a group that has been struggling mightily to get a win.

I think the game tonight was great. They got down in the 2nd and we all thought it was going to happen again. Instead the team rallied around each other and found a way to win.

The win tonight doesn't mean anyone is a world beater or even going to the tournament. It does mean that the team still cares and is going down swinging. That, at a minimum, is commendable. Hope to be at the next game.

The Hawks will end up with at least 20 wins and Fran will be coach for at least 1-2 more years (probably 2).

i look at Iowa mbb like an apple tree. i love the tree and the joy it gives me, but you know you have to prune away a lot of limbs if you want it to prosper and bear more fruit.

love the team, need to prune a big limb.
Sure. Isn't the coach the trunk though?

Last nite was seen as a must win for RU....they were desperately clinging to slim hopes to make Dance.
We snatched that hope and stomped it out.
RU fans are calling for Pickell 's head.
Some have speculated on their chances of luring Fran back east to run his fun style that has dominated Pickell 8 of 9.
I enjoyed that hawk win immensely.
Let's do it again vs the Terps on Sunday tho that one smells like a blowout, especially if drew remains out.

It was a great win. All wins are, and I am happy.

It doesn’t really change anything in the overall picture of the program. The Hawks won’t make the NCAA Tournament this year, Fran will be back next year, attendance will continue to suffer, and Iowa will never be a threat to challenge for the Big 10 conference title or make any kind of tournament run.

Next season fans will continue to voice the same concerns/complaints. They will continue to hope/call for Fran to be gone. Nothing will change.

Best thing to do is accept it. Be happy for the wins and hope for the best.

Gotta be thrilled for the Hawkeye players, and for Fran. It's been a long, tough year. Basketball is such a grind. Iowa definitely needs new leadership to reinvigorate the program, but don't sell the players short. They have tried hard and nearly won @ Michigan, nearly beat ISU, led Purdue much of the way, and gave Wisconsin a great effort, all for naught. Had they won two of those games, the whole season would look much different . . .

Anyway, everyone who played last night, without exception, played hard and did what they could to help Iowa win. From a players' standpoint, you can't ask more than that. Sure, there is a deep program problem with the lack of emphasis on defense and rebounding, but the kids overcame that last night with their energy and effort.

I didn't think they'd win another game. Now? Who knows. Maybe this was just a blip, but at least for this one game the Hawkeyes should be proud of themselves and Iowa fans should be proud of them too.

I don't know that I've seen people wanting players gone. Fran, 100%.
It's a mid major line up period
It takes a monumental effort like last nite to get wins, and if the shooting is off they get pasted.
Too long have we seen this movie. Can't recruit true PGs, and when was the last time they had real athleticism? Fran recruits a certain type of player and bottom line is you can't win consistently in the B1G with what he puts on the court.
Yeah enjoy little victories like last night, but this season is basically over. Time to move off Fran is the only correct answer.

Still don't see where this poster wants players gone. Frustration with roster make up, sure.

It falls on Fran. His roster construction is awful.
I've seen the iowa movie too many times in the last decade and a half. it's time . But yes I agree with you.

I'm glad the team won last night.
I enjoyed watching them win.
The team is still fighting.
An emotional post-game Fran makes me think he is not "checked out".
I still feel it's time for a coaching change.

^^^ All of these things can be true at the same time. Not everything has to be so absolute.

Thought this was going to be a limerick of sorts at first, but then it broke form😂

After every loss there are the usuals posting that Brock and Mulvey and Pryce aren’t Big players and should have never been recruited. Is that the same as wanting them gone? As always, the squeaky wheels get the attention.
Maybe Iowa should just join the MVC and then problem solved???
The problem with Fran is he doesn’t put together a roster or starting five.
Take Luka’s senior year. Fran had four really good pieces with Joe W (speaks for himself) CJ (good all around guard, shooter, and defender, if always hurt) and JBo (good shooter). He needed to pair all that with a dynamic point guard and that’s a final four team. Instead we had Connor and his entry passes and your starting guard court gets outscored 61 to 0 against Oregon. 🤷‍♂️

Fran didn't make an effort to recruit players that would have been competition for CMAC or PMAC and his system that emphasizes offense at expense of defense is DOA when it comes to NCAA success. His time to make his legacy was Garza, Murrays, JoeW and instead he played his two boys over Keegan and Kris. Time for him to go. His contract hasn't been renewed and nothing from this year suggests he earned an extension. I keep seeing a buyout of $4 million....that seems reasonable---hold a retirement ceremony at the last home game and send him off while he still has a positive legacy.

I always root for Hawks. Better players means more wins means more happy fans and all the bitching goes away Not surprising to see so much negativity when you get blown out and don't even show up at Wisconsin, USC, UCLA. Guys like Mulvey, Braun, Dembele were playing their hearts out. Can't say we saw that level of effort all season by some of the starters.

Two crappy teams. One had to win. Doesn’t make us less crappy. We’re still a joke of a b-ball program.

Not every thread needs to be about Fran. I’d suggest therapy for your Oregon PTSD.
