A lot of people have asked me this week: Where did this ivermectin obsession come from? Who could possibly benefit from it?

Most importantly, why did my antivaxx aunt start eating horse goo from the tractor store?

It’s complicated, but here are some answers.Image
First off, they really are eating horse dewormer. It tastes terrible. Some mix it into jam to eat it on toast.

Others have asked about... more drastic actions. After all, they think ivermectin horse gel will their life, and their doctor won’t prescribe it.

How did we get here?Image
Let's flash back to last year.

Remember those pro-Trump doctors who had an extremely viral video that said hydroxychloroquine “cured” COVID-19?

Then-President Trump retweeted it. It had millions of views before it was pulled from Facebook.

That was America’s Frontline Doctors.Image
If you know America’s Frontline Doctors, it’s probably because of Dr. Stella Immanuel.

She became famous because, before claiming hydroxychloroquine cures COVID, she said ovarian cysts came from sex with demons.

Trump called her “very impressive.”

Trump’s New COVID Doctor Says Sex With Demons Makes You SickThe president is pushing the coronavirus theories of a Houston doctor who also says sexual visitations by demons and alien DNA are at the root of Americans’ common health concerns.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/stell...-alien-dna-demon-sperm-and-hydroxychloroquine
America’s Frontline Doctors was founded by Simone Gold, who spent the last year barnstorming churches and schools, insisting COVID vaccines cannot be trusted.

She’s become wildly influential with antivaxxers in the process. She has over 300k followers on this website.Image
Over the last year, as HCQ failed to become the miracle cure America’s Frontline Doctors claimed, antivaxxers became obsessed with COVID therapeutics. They're largely experimental cocktails from countries that didn’t have—but wanted—vaccine access.

Some included Ivermectin.
Antivaxx groups on Facebook and Reddit wanted ivermectin. Doctors wouldn’t prescribe it.

Members did whack-a-mole with telehealth providers, trying to get doctors to sign off on scripts.

But one reliably obliged: SpeakWithAnMD, who partners with… America’s Frontline Doctors.Image
SpeakWithAnMD offered $90 COVID consultations with MDs from America’s Frontline Doctors.

The cost of the ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine isn’t included, but, conveniently, they partner with a pharmacy who will ship it to your door!

YEP........THERE'S THE GRIFT!!!!

Image
We got a hold of the intake form for a SpeakWithAnMD doctor.

One part of the questionnaire asks: “What medication do you prefer?”

The user is then presented with three options: ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, or not sure.Image
Tthis got out of hand fast. SpeakWithAnMD now hits you with a prompt warning of long wait times due to "overwhelming demand."

Antivaxxers were worried about family members dying of COVID, and they were told ivermectin cured it.

They were getting really impatient.
This is how people started eating horse goo.Image
Antivaxxers started imploring each other to go to pet stores, claiming the horse and people Ivermectin are the same. They started sharing tips on how to eat the gel kind. They started hoarding it.

They started to wonder if maybe, without medical supervision, they had OD’d on it.Image
To evade what they believed to be incoming Facebook and Reddit bans, some ivermectin fans started to ask how much their “horse" weighs, so it didn’t look like they were giving out medical advice.Image
So that's how we ended up here.

Ivermectin fans on Facebook, complaining about wait times and high drug prices, got fed up with America’s Frontline Doctors, who sold them conspiracy and the fake cure.

So they went to the feed store, to eat the horse goo, because it's cheaper.
There is one final plot twist.

America’s Frontline Doctors founder Simone Gold was indicted and is awaiting trial... for her role in the Capitol Riot on January 6th.

Out on personal recognizance, she was on the speaker lineup for an antivaxx rally in LA on Saturday.Image
Anyways, here’s our truly bonkers story on America’s Frontline Doctors and what’s really going on in these private, 25,000-member ivermectin Facebook pages.

It was a lot of work. I hope you read it.

Clamoring for ivermectin, some turn to a pro-Trump telemedicine websiteIvermectin is the hot new false cure in some Facebook and Reddit groups, where shortages are pushing some people to a pro-Trump telemedicine site.

Could anyone else read that OP? between random blocks of text, photos and tweets it was damn impossible.

yeah duh i personally dont have any stocked but many do as an emergency supply, i would take it if i didnt have access to a doctor, only if i ran a fever for more then 5 days tho

I keep Tylenol on hand. I keep pseudoephedrine on hand. I keep Mucinex and cough drops on hand. A full stash of all that is like $20 if you get generics. I got vaccinated (Moderna) with second dose in May. Got infected with Delta last week in July. The combination of my immune response from the vaccine and Tylenol meant the fever was gone in 36-48 hours. Then I managed the cough/cold symptoms (reminiscent of a bad seasonal cold) with pseudoephedrine, Mucinex, and cough drops. Symptoms almost disappeared by day 5. It would seem if you get vaccinated, you have a little more leeway with limited access to a doctor.

ya im not talking bout covid here, im talking about having antibiotics from the pet store in the case of shtf, for if i got a bacterial infection, ive been nearly hospitalized twice over the years with bacterials, fought them hard and lost and had to take antibiotics, went 10 days of bed ridden fever and 7 days the 2nd time before i gave up, viral infections are a secondary worry just havent had a lot of problems ever up to this point with those

i can rattle off supplement after supplement that helps viral infections, bacterial there are none, there is no such thing as a supplement that helps bacterial infections after a certain point that i know of, obviously having ur gut filled to the brim with good bacteria and balanced and good ph and alkaline to a point is what u need to do, but that takes years to get it primed

This article is garbage. HCQ was garbage. The fact that we don't do enough repurposing of exiting drugs is a real problem ... they have long well-known safety records. While it's not yet sufficiently clear if Ivermectin works, that we haven't looked into it more aggressively is where the actual graft is. Even Merck, who came up with this medicine in the 1980s won't spend the money to test its efficacy for COVID. Why? It's now a generic ... no money to be made. Comparing Ivermectic to HCQ is idiotic. The doctors peddling HCQ were quacks. The doctors backing Ivermectin are highly reputed.

In less-than-perfect studies, Ivermectin has been shown to improve outcomes. Based on that, Oxford University has started a robust double-blind randomized trial. We should all wait for the results.

Yes ... I am vaxxed ... and I am a #NeverTrumper. But I am also willing to follow the evidence to where it leads.

What is the mechanism in this horse wormer that would ramp up a person’s immune system to fight a virus? Why would any intelligent person even consider using it, or studying it as a pharmaceutical possibility? The fact “there’s no money in it“ as a reason it’s not being studied is laughable. How about studying antivirals over horse wormers?

No, it really hasn't. Results have been all over the map on it.

The reason it was tried in the first place was in vitro studies. But follow-on clinical studies indicated that the dose required to reach the in vitro results would be around 10x the normal dose, which is not safe for humans.

There have been lots of studies on it - many of them were cancelled once some of this info came out, on how large the doses needed to be. Oxford IS running a randomized trial, and it's rather amazing after this many months no one has any useful data yet.

In contrast, dexamethasone for severe cases showed dramatic impacts in a very short time frame. They cut those trials short because the results were so dramatic. Nothing like that has been observed with ivermectin. And I think it's no coincidence on how much press it has gotten, when you observe the "grift" going on. $90 a pop just for the referral to get the prescription. That's pretty much printing money.

It showed antiviral effects in vitro, but in concentrations nearly impossible to get in humans, to the tissues that are infected.

Anti-vaxx people calling others scared of life is so disingenuous and obviously a mirror deflection.

They’re obviously terrified of COVID, yer are also so scared of the vaccine needles that they they’ll take horse dewormer? What a bunch of cowards.

Im acutally considering buying myself some ivermectin, not for covid but for a once a year deworming, no this is not a joke, we all probably have some worms in our gut, especially if you eat a lot of fresh produce. would a doctor give me some after all this covid stuff calms down u think? would just want to take it once a year or so, probably in the summer time.

You wonder how many hundreds of people are dying because of grift and politics every day here in America.
Well, one died because TV stations were parroting the false "Trump said to drink bleach" BS. You can't fix stupid.

Riiiiiggght. It was because of evil liberal broadcasting. Not morons sharing this stuff across facebook or listening to Tucker Carlson like the current morons eating bull de-wormer.

The point that went over your head was, Trump never said to drink bleach. Try to keep up.

Here's where the actual science currently stands:

2nd link goes into exhaustive detail of the reviews of studies to date.
And, as yet, NOTHING points to IVM providing any clear benefits. Every study outcome is Low to Extremely Low quality in terms of "certainty of the evidence"

This is as of LAST MONTH

I can tell you beyond the shadow of a doubt that the last thing I would do if I was really sick would be to ask the vet that works on my horses to go dig something up on the backside of the track and give it to me. I’d rather be pinfired before seeing what he could come up with
