Ivory Kelly-Martin

I wonder if and how this impact's Eno Benjamin's decision.

Awesome pair of rb's this year...really, really good.

Now we need that big ol' hoss out of Spirit Lake to jump on board.

Running back Ivory Kelly-Martin committed to Coach Ferentz and the Hawkeyes today.

Illinois running back Ivory Kelly-Martin has made his college decision. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound prospect announced his verbal commitment to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Twitter this evening.

"I would like to thank all of the coaches whom I have met and spoken with throughout the recruitment process," Kelly-Martin said in a statement. "You have all made positive and lasting impressions that I will remember and appreciate throughout my life."

"I would now like to announce that I have committed to continue my academic and athletic career at The University of Iowa! Go Hawkeye Football!"

A three-star prospect, Kelly-Martin chose Iowa over scholarship offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Arizona, Syracuse, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, Toledo, and Miami of Ohio, among others.

As a junior, Kelly-Martin finished the season with 190 carries for 2,036 yards and 33 touchdowns at Nazareth Academy, leading the team to a state championship in Class 5A. As a senior, he will be attending Oswego East.

Kelly-Martin is the eighth commitment for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Class of 2017, joining A.J. Epenesa, Juan Harris, Coy Kirkpatrick, Tristan Wirfs, Jacob Coons, Djimon Colbert, and Mark Kallenberger.

How does a top RB in all of Illinois only rate a 3 star??
Also, one place says he is 5'11 and 195 and another says he is 5'10 and 175. I am skeptical about him, as in the video he is even or slightly slower than some of the defensive backs. But he does seem to be able to change directions pretty well.

He reminds me of Akrum Wadley, and you can envision how he can potentially look in Iowa's offense with Nazareth's zone running scheme

I'm no running back guru, but I'm not concerned about speed. I don't know how quick his feet are or if he can run between the tackles based soley on the video. He still looks like a good get and if he's had a healthy year after surgery I'd only expect him to show more as a senior. Welcome aboard.

Good pick up!! Great start to this class. Now add Benjamin and Dykstra to that list soon, hopefully!

Can't understand why Wisconsin suddenly dropped him, when he was so close to verballing.
He seems to be a great prospect, maybe his size and speed are exaggerated but he looks plenty fast and shifty on that film.

As mentioned above, how is the #8 player in the state of Illinois (the top in state RB) only a 3-star? I would think there would be a dozen in the Chicago metro alone.

Some things I like about this kid from the video. He has good balance and very good vision. He almost instinctively/naturally has the ball in the proper arm when running. He will be an easy to coach to having it in the proper arm every time.

He is very similar to Eno Benjamin in the way they run. I would say Eno is more of an all purpose back and Ivory is more of a pure running back, IMO.

In response to those questioning his speed because a couple of DB's were able to get to him. Do you expect a RB to be the fastest player on the field every time? There were a ton of DB's he was out running in that video. He was out running good tackling angles as well. The kid is far from slow. He has plenty of speed. HUDL has his 40 time at 4.4.

Wade may end up at LB, with Daniels being a SR, Wadley and Mitchell are both JR's, that makes 3 that will be gone when Eno and Martin are RSFR.

I am of the opinion they will RS while Wadley and Mitchell are the #1 and #2 RB's as SR's. but with AIRBHG hanging around you can never have enough RB's. even Jimmy boy after getting the #1 RB in the Country and yet he just added a 3rd in the 2017 class.

What I liked was that most of those plays looked a lot like our Stretch Play and he had the vision to see where the hole was and especially where the cut-back hole was. I don't care if he's only 5'8" and runs a 4.6 second 40... if he can see that cutback lane, plant his foot and get to that hole ... he is a good RB for the Hawks.

Wade is already slotted to play LB at Iowa.

4.4. The universal RB/DB 40 time on recruiting services.

I also thought about that. It looks like that offense ran the same play over and over (QB in shotgun, Ivory-Martin to his left) and they just handed it off that way. That's a play I'd like to see Iowa use out of the shotgun. It is a lot quicker as well and would vary the usual routine a bit. Plus, you can put the QB in motion if you want and direct snap to the RB, although that might be a little too risky in the KF game plan!

Didn't Iowa do this a few times this year? I have visions of Wadley breaking off a long touchdown run against Northwestern when we were in shotgun.

IA really has not had a healthy RB to do that. if Canzeri had been fully healthy you would have seen it as GD used that same play at TX.

Have to agree with some others. Not elite size or speed but appears to have very good vision and cutback ability. Give him a year or two to add some bulk without losing a step and he will be very solid imo. Showed decent burst a few times in the video, but the important thing is knowing how to follow blocks and set up defenders to make up for any lacking speed. Very nice pick up.

And I agree with the poster who mentioned the OL. Some pretty big boys that moved ok. Any prospects there?
