Agree. We lost at Minnesota that way 2-3 years ago IIRC. It's kind of a no brainer to me anymore
Fran used that strategy this year---vs Minny I think. Gopher immediately put up the 3point shot as soon as they were touched and refs could have called in the act of shooting. You end up putting the game in hands of official whereas if you let them shoot it normally is a deep contested 3.

Agree. So many things have to go wrong to lose when fouling up 3. Make 1 FT, miss the second, get the offensive rebound, make the shot. Such low odds. It just baffles me that coaches don't fould up 3.
Was listening to a broadcast earlier this year which showed a statistic on the outcomes of foul vs don't foul. It was almost a dead heat, slightly in favor of fouling, but statistically insignificant.

Not trying to start an argument (I'm tired from the other ones I've been in)....
I can't remember a time when refs have actually called a foul in that situation.
Although, if any coach could get that call it'd be Izzo so maybe you're right.
Definitely foul. You're making Iowa make one and then a perfect miss and rebound without FR in the game.
They don't and Izzo was an idiot for not having his team foul. It's not like Iowa was cold from 3. I mean at that point i think I would take my chances having a guy hit 3 free throws

I think MSU lost because they refused to take open layups in the final minutes, instead chose to try and run the clock.

I've been a proponent of the Elam Ending for college basketball because of the foul debate when up 3 (or fouling non-stop when down 10) but man it's tough to beat a game like this.
True. Sparty also missed a second free throw to go up by four and effectively put the game out of reach.
