I didn't want to intrude on Justin's injury thread. I saw it was posted JRent is back. Will he face any tough competition soon?
I say let him grow so we don't have him, Money Mejia and Spenser Lee all competing for the same two spots.I do not believe Renteria was injured, his absence was due to the weight certification process if my information is correct.
Didn't OPRF have there AAs at Fargo this summer at 126pounds. I think Rent was one of them. It looks like a log jam at that weight and he seems to be the one expected to get to a lower weight. Going off memory here, so I could be wrong.
You are correct about the 3 guys at 126 for Fargo. But only one of them was down to their optimal weight. Of the others one is/was not interested cutting weight under any circumstances and the other thought he would win regardless of weight so why bother. Going into and during this season there was no log jam.Didn't OPRF have there AAs at Fargo this summer at 126pounds. I think Rent was one of them. So if this was a weight issue why didn't he just wrestle up a weight?
Because his date to make that weight had come. You have to make that weight on YOUR first competition that falls either on or after the date you are allowed to drop to that particular weight class. If you weigh in over that (either blowing weight or at a higher weight class) it will re-certify you for the higher weight.
A common theme if a kid is having trouble getting down is just to hold them out until they 100% can make scratch and then on December 25th the +2lb growth allowance kicks in. Basically if a kid was really struggling they would only have to make actual scratch weight once, and after that wrestle up or ride the pine until the growth allowance kicks in.
I don't know if he can beat madrigal. I'm pretty sure he lost to him in the semis at Fargo. Slim?
Not a matter of beating Madrigal as Jay chose what weight he was going this season. He has already began competing at 120 for the season. Gomez is at 126.I'm not saying he isn't better but that may have something to do with it. I remember the match had a big 4 point swing that didn't get corrected until seconds left. If he gets back down to 120 is that another rematch with Gomez?
Someone suggested that may be the case but Renteria was not forced there to make the lineup as he actually chose the weight he is competing at. 120 is his most competitive weight. He's not a 126lber.I'm struggling with what is being discussed here because not only do I not understand the rule but I also don't know the names people are talking about. Are you guys saying that he didn't wrestle at a higher weight because he can't beat the guys out at the weights above him?

1) Nobody said he couldn't be competive at 126.Keeping in mind that I'm just an idiot fan, a few things come to mind:
1) I do not buy the comment that a supposedly elite 120 pound high school wrestler can't compete with wrestlers at 126. Especially one cutting hard to get to 120.
2) If you have to cut this hard to make 120 doesn't it just mean you should be a 126 pounder?
3) Even if 120 is his target why was he not allowed to compete at 126? I've seen a ton of high school kids drop from 126 to 120 since the season started. Thus the question: If he was at 126 would he not be in his high school lineup?
1) Nobody said he couldn't be competive at 126.
2) He's not making as hard of a cut as presumed. Not sure anyone ever said he was making a hard cut.
3) No one said he was not allowed to compete at 126. If he had wanted to be the OPRF 126lber he would be the OPRF 126lber.
I presume this thread was started to inform fans that after an absence Jay was competing now. After that objective was accomplished there were some understandable follow up questions that I answered. If you still don't get it or buy it, I can't explain it any further than Omahahawk86 just did.
I think there's more to it then that. He committed to wrestle 120 for a very good team. If he were to wrestle 126 for awhile then everyone would have to move up. It's not the other guys fault he said I'm wrestling 120 and hasn't made the weight. When your at a top program it's not easy to go whatever weight you want and then move down. A coach has to do the best that he can to get all his studs in the lineup.
