Jack Campbell to the Lions

Show Me The Money GIF

Lifetime Lions fan here. As much as I love the prospect of this, I’ll be skeptical as heII till I see it!

Love the Jack Campbell pick for the Lions tho. Head coach Dan Campbell got his type of player here. Athlete that brings his lunch pale - boom!
Life long Lion’s fan as well. Growing up in NW Iowa, I needed a favorite NFL team and picked the Lions just to be different than the many Viking & Packers fans in town.

My wife (Dolphin fan, no pics) bought tickets for our first Lions game played on Thanksgiving Day vs Bears a couple years ago. Sitting amongst other Lions fans, though similar to Kinnick, was almost surreal. She also got me a blue 88 Hockenson jersey which is now obsolete. I was crushed when TJ was traded to the Vikings. That said, I too believe Dan Campbell is building something special in Detroit and can’t wait to see Jack suit up as a Lion. Can’t call us the “Lie-downs” anymore…

I played against Jack’s dad in both football & baseball while growing up, so been pulling for him especially hard as a Hawkeye. And what a player he’s been…
Go Lions! Go Hawks!

Lions are starting to build a team. I think they're going to be the dominant team in the NFC Central over the next 5-10 years.
Have a player's coach, would love to play for DC. Love Jack going there - DC has to be a big fan of him! Big Lions fan ever since they drafted the all-time best RB ever! Lions are favorite of the division this year. They are on the uptick!

Two things to keep in mind here:

1. Name a team other than the Pats that has been dominant in their conference for 5-10 years. With free agency and the salary cap, it just doesn't happen.

2. More importantly, we are talking about the lions here.

The Lions could have had Jack Campbell potentially two rounds later than this. Pretty crazy. Campbell is a quality athlete and may turn out to be a solid starter, but this is a major reach.

Or maybe he would have been gone two rounds later.
You don't pass on the next Brian Urlacher.

As a lifelong Lions fan, I trust this front office and coach more than any other they've had. That's not saying much, but I want them to get players they want and not care about draft "experts" or online mock drafts.

While I'm very happy for Jack this pick is certainly going to be under a ton of scrutiny, especially as bad as the Lions defense was last year. Campbell was probably going to be around at least in the 2nd round, so this is a huge reach. Hopefully he's a sideline to sideline player and will play on almost all downs, otherwise it's just not a great pick. After watching Hard Knocks w/Dan Campbell it's hard not to pull for the guy. Seems like such a great players coach, I'm pulling for that team in the Central for sure.

One thing is for certain he won't be a guy that gets distracted by outside stuff and be a me me me player.

Jack is leadership. Many teams were ready to pull the trigger early because his leadership and production on field. People devalue mlb in this era but goos ones are tough to come by. If not the lions at 18 it would have been someone else later. He wasn’t making round two

If we all set aside our pro-Hawkeye bias, that take isn't out of bounds for die-hard Lions fans/media.

Although an "F" is too drastic imo. I could see a "D" maybe, or more realistically a "C-" since it was a position of need and JC should be a starter at some point.

If they coveted him that much, I think they could have moved down 10 spots and still gotten him while picking up some additional draft capital either this year or next like the Bears did.

They have 3 2nd round picks... they probably couldve traded down for a late 1st... or they have plans to deal their 2nd round picks and figured taking Jack now gets the guy they want and they still get picks in the future... Or something like that.

Campbell will be a great pro and definitely the kind of guy you want in your locker room from a leadership and work ethic angle. They just picked him too high. However, it is possible that they sniffed out that other teams were looking at him too so he was likely going higher than projected...and they jumped.

Will Levis dropped, someone had to jump up.

The way it sounded to me is that the ownership, GM and coach all were looking for high character guys and Jack would have certainly been on the top of that list. I promise none of those guys care what any mock or critic says because if Jack ends up playing like we all know he is going to play then they will look like geniuses. They needed a leader and they went out and got one and there is zero chance that Jack is going to be a drama queen in any way. A+ for them.

On a sidenote, and this is in no way dissing our own Hawkeye, but I think Jack is a much more proven commodity then Lukas and I would choose Jack every day and twice on Sundays to lead my team over Lukas.

He was the highest rated LB in the whole draft, if Detroit didn't take him there someone else would have. His RAS score was higher than multiple 1st rd LB picks the past few years

The other thing that everyone needs to keep in mind with the NFL draft, and the same for college recruiting, is that the coaching staffs of these teams and the so-called "experts" are totally disconnected. At the top of these boards the coaching evaluations and the "expert" evaluations may be the same because it is much easier to identify transcendent talent, but, when you move down the board they will differ dramatically. So just because the "experts" had Jack going later doesn't mean that the coaching staff evaluations are the same.

I hadn’t seen one mock that had him going in round one, and quite honestly only a few that had him going in the second.

I am a huge fan of Jack’s, but his value simply wasn’t there at that spot.

What other teams do you think coveted him so much that they would have taken him with their first round pick or traded into the top 25 to take him?

This is a great example of when staying in college an extra year can help your draft status. I think all of the National recognition and another year of consistent production from this season made a difference
