here's a short hi-light video that i scrounged up on youtube. seems like a nice touch out to distance. not a very quick release and hard to tell on his handles but he has some good body control around the hoop.
and here's a short interview he did for a local outlet.

Read it on Hawkeye Nation, Fran had an in-house with him last week. Very good range for someone his size. I've read 6-9 to 6-10.Do you have a link to a video or article?
Not overly impressed with the highlight film bit. Jack played against slower shorter guys. Either Iowa lands Malik Williams or Jordan Goodwin or someone who is truly top 100 material. Stop with the projects for a while. Get a contributor or sit it one for 2016-17.
I think what he is saying is that Fran can afford to be picky in 2017. We don't need to be throwing around scholarships to guys that won't contribute on day 1, at least not right away. If we miss on guys like Nunge or Garza because we were waiting for Williams or Goodwin, so be it. But of course, Fran will do what he thinks is best for the team and I trust him. Just hope he really swings for the fences in 17 and 18 to capitalize on some momentum.Yep stop recruiting someone just cause he isn't in top 100 for some website rankings. With that logic no Aaron White, Gabe Olaseni, Peter Jok, etc. Easier said then done to get these top 100 players. 2 of the last ones to be top 100 or top 150 including message boards favorite whipping boys in Gesell, Woody and even Olgesby was top 150.

A couple of things--
(1) Nunge's high school played in the largest classification for Indiana high school basketball (4A).
(2) Jeff Sagarin has an Indiana high school basketball website which appears to be like BC Moore's Iowa high school basketball website, which ranked Nunge's high school #10 in the state, and ranked its difficulty of schedule as #5 in the state.
(3) Nunge put up 19.3 points and 11.4 rebounds per game his junior season.
While it would be fine with me if Iowa waited for other, more highly ranked prospects to make their decisions, it is worth noting that Nunge's productivity was against the best high school talent in Indiana, rather than small schools.
Pemsl's injury rehab may need a reshirt year
Hasn't Pemsl stated that he is going to do everything he can to not redshirt?
That's what I thought. I expect him to come in and immediately compete with Cook and Kriener. I seriously doubt that he will see the floor before Cook but Pemsl could certainly be a valuable reserve this year, IMO he is much more physically ready than Kriener. Should be interesting to see how it gets sorted out,
Put some muscle on Mr. Nunge and he may turn out to be a nightmare for other teams to defend, like a lot his inside ambidextrous touch, but seems to have a good outside shot. Bugs are sometimes already developed by senior year of high school, others haven't filled out and still growing. I suspect that one of the tougher things about recruiting is determining what level of developing the recruits body has been achieved at the time you're having to decide to give out a scholarship, and where it will be in year 1, 2, 3. When I saw Moss last year and Baer, I felt neither would contribute last year. So I was right about Moss and wrong about Baer. It such a crapshoot, but I have seen Fran seems to have as good a grasp as anyone in the business what a player could become. Think Marble , White, and Gabe as other examples.
Pemsl had more than meniscus surgery. He had that and an osteotomy to correct a condition known as valgus knee (he was extremely knock-kneed). That happened about a year ago, on May 14, 2015. They had to break and reset his leg to correct the condition. He was able to get into shape enough to play HS ball last year but he still has some reshaping to do to play at the B1G level. A red shirt year with the strength and conditioning staff at Iowa would do wonders for him. I just hope he is willing to do that as I think it would give him a better chance to play whatever position he wants.I see this suggested and/or alluded to quite bit. Pemsl's surgery was performed more than 12 months ago, during his junior year. It was my understanding that the procedure was standard for a torn meniscus. Is there any evidence that Pemsl still needs rehabilitation? He received medical clearance to play this past season. I am not aware that he re-injured the knee during his senior season. At this point, it seems like he is past the rehabilitation phase. Absent re-injury, I am curious why anyone would think his injury would still need rehabilitation more than 18 months post-surgery.
He may opt for a redshirt for a variety of reasons, I just don't think it would be for injury rehabilitation.

He reminds me a bit of the kind of kid that Butler would get who would end up being pretty successful without being explosive. Things like being able to finish with either hand, finish from any angle including underhand shots, and being able to shoot from range both off the catch and (after a pumpfake) off the dribble can make one pretty successful that way. He seems to have a knack for getting his hands where they need to be to block shots much like Uthoff as well.
The other comparison is Larry Bird - obviously not at that level but his ability to do things without ever looking explosive is kind of interesting that way. I think Uthoff is more of a long strider and more explosive than he is, but yet he uses his reach well and sets up his drives with his jumper. Probably won't be able to be a go-to guy in the clutch at this level since I'm not sure how he creates separation unless he gets into the mid-post like Uthoff and shoots over smaller SF's, but can be a great secondary player imo.
If he was to grow 1-2 inches then he'd be pretty good as a stretch 4 I think. Needs strength too obviously.
It's his skill set that will make the difference, though. If he can handle and pass and shoot ambidextrously in ways and be creative in his scoring angles (like Curry does) he can be sneaky good I think. I trust Fan a bit on those types of assessments.
I see Bird as well. Wasn't expecting that. Sounds hyperbolic, but just reminiscent, not saying this kid is the next Larry Bird.
May I say, before someone complains or calls you crazy, that I completely understand you meant to compare style to style. Good comparison.
May the reading comprehension challenged now commence to boil you in oil.
That's a really good post. You are right, trying to evaluate a high school kid isn't an exact science. Frank Kaminski went from an average recruit to something pretty special. Ethan Happ looks like the next "Where did he come from" kid. I mention them as neither was the high flying dunker or big bodied rebounder that folks can all spot.
And, you are right, by now McCaffery has proven he knows what he is looking for.
I thought the same thing when I saw the tape. Nunge is not a stiff who needs to develop skills, but a kid who needs to get used to his size. He seems to bring a lot of the same well-rounded skill set as Kaminski and Happ. If he has Happ's grit and determination around the basket, and he continues to develop and grow like Kaminski did(maybe big ifs), Nunge could be a really good player.
Remember Jon Leuer? That is who this kid really reminds me of. Very similar games as HS kids.He reminds me a lot of Kaminski from Wisconsin in the highlight video. He might not be an explosive player but a big who can shoot well (his form is nice), handle the ball, and put the ball on the floor is not easy to guard. I would take him in a heartbeat.

I don't think his shot looks like Bird's either. I think his physical movement other than the shot itself reminds me of him.i dont think his his shot looks anything like Birds. Bird had a set point to the high side of his head.
