Jada Gyamfi talent?

She has moments when she’s in where she looks semi-skilled. She was a top 100 recruit. She is a decent athlete
When I watch Gyamfi play, I see a player lacking quickness who just isn’t particularly talented. I didn’t see her play in high school outside of a few highlights, but it looks to me like - barring an unknown injury that has since hampered her play - she was very overrated as a recruit. I don’t see a whole lot of upside based on what she brings to the table.

Like the poster who called Hannah Stuelke “lazy,” I would recommend asking yourself why you’re questioning the effort or desire of a Black player when you don’t have the evidence to back it up.

Wow, that never went anywhere near where I thought it would. Nir am I even going to defend myself. I will say this there are other things in life than just being lazy and her being black never entered my mind.

I’ve seen copious videos of her. I think she’s a sweetheart of a human being.

Not sure if you’re black nor do I care but quite frankly, it’s odd that we live in a society where “not being talented enough” or being “overrated” is better than not having desire to be a great basketball player…

Holy smokes, what a world 😜

PS if I saw someone call Hanna Stuelke lazy I would’ve called their ass out… She is anything but lazy, but I’m also not gonna let somebody bully me over some stupid race connotation that is in their head and not mine.

Quite frankly, I doubt whoever called her lazy had any thought about her being black either, sounds like it’s a you thing. Now with that said it’s also Uber ignorant she runs around like the energizer bunny, but there’s a lot of idiots on this board, you may be one of them.

What does being a "Black" player have to do with someone questioning work ethic? Plenty of people have called Riley Mulvey unmotivated and lazy but I don't see anyone jumping up and down protesting that. Stop seeing racism in everything or maybe that's just the way you want to view the world. It's easier that way to blame someone else for failure.

Who knows…it’s a super sensitive world we live in

I actually tried to take a fairly soft approach on this, but after seeing a few other comments, I’m wondering if this isn’t an MO of yours… Literally, I am tired of the world seeing race in everything. You I hope would have the same response, no matter what ethnicity or gender someone is But we know you don’t, so again you’re the problem

She has a huge personality and makes this team a fun loving caring team

Yeah, she’s a free spirit, she’s super well liked she’s funny, she’s pretty and imagine is super intelligent and has personality for for days. I’ve also seen her move around on the basketball court. She’s a decent athlete, but not everybody has the drive to be all there is in basketball and that doesn’t make them lazy. I’ve got two boys that are hard ass workers and I mean super hard ass workers my 22-year-old worked so much and so hard he literally paid out of his own pocket $25,000 cash to go to Lineman school in Georgia

But guess what he was 6-5 250 and a very good basketball player and his younger brother was even better but outside of playing they never trained, they never put in monster effort & the younger one I ultimately let quit in his senior year & they were good.

It’s all relative, to what you love to do and quite frankly the idiots like @chaneccooms makes this world tougher to navigate than need be

I'm not trying to be rude, but saying her being Black never entered your mind is just not accurate. Google "I don't see color" to learn more about the mounds of research that have been done in this area. We all see color and we all form opinions based on it in one way or another, whether we want to admit it or not.

While it may not have been your intent, you perpetuated a stereotype that Black players have superior talent and if they aren't successful on the court, it must be because of a lack of effort. How to be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi is a great book on how our society perpetuates stereotypes if you'd like to learn more.

LOL at "Not sure if you're black nor do I care..." Obviously you care, or you wouldn't have mentioned it. While you're ask yourself why you questioned the work effort of a Black player without any evidence for doing so, ask yourself why it matters if I'm Black or not.

The point isn't about whether being overrated is being better than not having desire. Being antiracist isn't about automatically holding BIPOC people in high regard. It's about working to be honest about people in a way that seeks to strip away the implicit biases we all hold.

Gyamfi just isn't that good. In her time at Iowa, when has she made a play on the court that made you think, "Wow, she's really talented" or "Gosh, she sure is athletic." There are players all the time whose abilities just don't translate at the next level. Look at all the busts there are in the NBA draft, despite millions and millions being put into scouting. Gyamfi is a player who just doesn't have the athletic ability or talent to earn a lot of minutes at the Big Ten level. It's just that simple.

Buddy, I’m not getting into woke political rhetoric with you. I don’t talk to idiots anymore. They have agendas and it doesn’t matter what you say, I didn’t say I don’t. “see color“ I said it never occurred to me when I was making that statement that she was black. And now you’re gonna tell me what I was thinking, we’re done & you’re done. You’re a racist, pure and simple.

I do know they would be a lot of black folks flat pissed off at you talking like this.

I actually feel sorry for you. My guess is you’re not black you’re one of those Lily white hard left folks that think they have to police the world.

I do enjoy the “mounds of research“ comment, however, considering there are mounds of people of all colors and genders that dispute it vehemently… Now what?

LOL

Ps…. Let me know when you get past those implicit biases.. I/E: you never will, and your rush to judgment proves that it’s human nature. We are judgmental, shitty, selfish, opportunistic clods.

You could’ve gone 50 ways with this conversation and this is the direction you went, proving… And I do love hypocrisy and irony… Wait for it… Your biased 😎

@chaneccooms it IS funny. You need to keep up your reading friend you made a leap to judgment about my intent, and that makes you a part of the system.

PS… sorry I can’t help myself. I do love being a sarcastic jackass, without any “real evidence”

PPS… I like Gymafi and I actually do think she has some athleticism and quickness. I’ve often wondered why she didn’t play more. You have the opinion she doesn’t, but from personal experience if I had a $10 bill for every Iowa fan that told me some player wasnt athletic that went on to run electric agility times I’d have a shit ton of money. I imagine you’re just more the same.

Go back to your hole

I only read a few sentences cuz this is unadulterated trash.

Usually that’s why @chaneccooms rebuttal is a laughing face. He made an assumption I was white and I was “seeing” race & therefore making an effort judgement because of said race. And he isnt bright enough to see what he did.

Quite frankly, my guess is she probably is a hard worker in life. She just doesn’t give a shit about basketball and he’s in here throwing around race bait…. What a dope

😆 I never made an assumption you were white. You were the one who did that with me. 🤣

Since we're on the topic, here's my race/basketball imput

Years ago I got a call from my friend Jim whose rec basketball league was a couple bodies short for a Sunday night game and needed help. I accepted and brought a friend - a former U of I wrestling letter winner. He was quite excited to play.

Of course, we lost and my friend was a disaster. So after the game Jim took me aside and said "seriously, did you go out and find the only black guy in town that doesn't know how to play baskeball."

I figured he could play ball. I'm bad.

And that is exactly the point. Anyone being honest with themselves admits that they have these kinds of thoughts at times.

It’s the people who are too insecure to examine their own biases that are the problem,

Near the end of the last season, one of the men on the practice team who plays against the women in practice came down and sat next to me. He gets in free but no seat. I asked who would surprise me next (this) year. He said McCabe (no surprise) and Gyamfi (surprise). He said that she is a great player.

Chaneccooms is a reasonable, intelligent dude. I've known him online for years. I get some of your criticisms but to dismiss him as an "idiot" is just being overly dismissive.

Reminds me of the 80's? movie Soul Man with C. Thomas Howell. He takes tanning pills to get a law school scholarship for an African American. Goes to an open gym for some hoops and both teams are fighting over him since he was black. Turns out he sucks bad. Doubt that movie is on TV now a days

That’s fine, but he made some baseless assumptions and the truest thing he said is that we ALL have presuppositions, him included. That isn’t the way he started his complaint.

I’m confident Jada is a fine athlete. I’m also just as confident basketball isn’t the great love for her, it likely once was and it has nothing to do with being lazy..

Those were all his projections and he’s unwilling to admit it.

@chaneccooms and that makes him someone, I’m not interested in talking with. I don’t even think I’ve probably ever had issue with him, but he has shown he is clearly one way.

I’m the poster child for admitting my failings and that we all have biases and indoctrinated feelings about things and people. He is right, however most won’t admit it and he is one of them.

You saw what I wrote, he projected the racial stuff on me not the other way around.

You’re a fine guy and so is @littlez but if you read what I said, nowhere did you see me suggesting anything to do with anything other than a person‘s desire to be really good at basketball? It happens….
