JBo, PMac, CMac played 68 minutes

Do I view it the same as what? He was pretty good last year when he didn't really have to do a lot. Now his role is much more important to the team and the productivity just isn't there.

He's no Nick Baer.
You said this season you were very disappointed in him. Asking if you feel that way about his career.

I had someone tell me before this season that comparing Baer to Patrick was an insult to Patrick-- I didn't respond because I didn't know it that was true or not.

No, I wasn't disappointed in his career last year. I thought he played well in limited minutes.

Being compared to Nick Baer shouldn't be an insult to anyone. Man, would I love to have him on this team.

I'd be curious to hear from those who follow Iowa hoops very closely what their take has been on Patrick McCaffery's career overall so far. Seems he came to Iowa with lots of hype but has never developed into that consistently strong game-in game-out performer? True? Not true?
I think Patrick has a lot of athletic ability. He hasn't become a really good player yet. The cancer thing had to take a toll on him so I didn't really have any super high expectations for him when he arrived.

I will admit that those expectations took a step up last year when he demonstrated some of the athleticism that people had talked about. I thought if he could continue to evolve and grow physically that he could become a really high level player. He's not there yet and he's still got a ways to go. On offense he's not a great outside shooter and he's not a slasher that gets to the rim with any regularity. He appears reluctant to mix it up inside. On defense he is very slow to react at times and his rebounding is very weak for a forward. You don't really see him helping out on defense like Joe or the Murrays do. There is really zero physicality to his game right now and I think that's perhaps the biggest weakness in his game. He has the athleticism. He just doesn't seem to want or know how to use it today.

Patrick will always be an impressive young man in my book for overcoming cancer and playing BB.

But, I'm not sure it works as an excuse any longer - if it does, my sincere apologies.

My son had leukemia (AML) when he was 16. (Patrick at age 13) My son was in the hospital for most of 5 months and had 500 hours of chemo. He left the hospital in November and couldn't walk up a flight of stairs. In March, as a junior in HS, he started on the soccer team. Kids are tough.

We are now 7 years removed from Patrick's cancer. Having lived through it with my son, it is a devastating ordeal - but I'm not sure if it still has a physical impact on him.

I will always be a fan of PMac, even when he doesn't play well.

My son had leukemia (AML) when he was 16. (Patrick had ALL at age 13, so different) My son was in the hospital for most of 5 months and had 500 hours of chemo. Oh I'm definitely a fan of the person and the family. I've got kids of my own and they went through a lot as you of all people would know. I also find it hard to believe that having thyroid cancer and having it removed wouldn't impact a person physically when it comes to sports at the highest level. It kinda has to. Best wishes to you and your family for all you've gone through.

0/10 - 0 Rebs - 0 Assists - 2 Blocks - 2 TOs - 1 steal

That look about right?
This is the fallacy of small sample sets, 10 total FGA over 4 players, that is absolutely not the way to judge a player or make decision on their playing time

looking at all 7 league games in the aggregate is a much more predictive, If Keegan goes 0-10 in the 1H, by this microscopic view, you make the case to sit him, but we know he leads IOWA in PER at 33 so you will never sit him.

the same is true for Kris, and Perk which at 25.7 and 15.8 are #2 and #4 (JoeT being 3rd), they have proven that they are clearly producing in the top tier over 7 games, and must be allowed to continue playing, even if they miss their 1st 2 shots.

Conversely, CMac is 11th on team in PER at the unplayable number of 5.0, so making the case that CMac p,ays more minutes than Perk or Kris, for any reason (except the end of half baseball pass) is asking for sub optimal results, and in a 1 possession game , the delta of Kris ans Perk over JoBo and CMac will make all the difference in outcomes

A pattern during the game that seemed inevitable. What else had they not been called for but.............. I've watched 40 plus years of BIG basketball and the refs continually amaze me with their calls, anticipating fouls that do not occur. Just wondering when their job on the floor will be appropriately "policed" and those that screw up penalized. I know, this will not likely happen, but the problem isn't going away when the stripes take it into their hands to dictate the outcome of certain games.
Not a lot of accountability at many jobs these days unfortunately

Glad your son was able to overcome leukemia. I will say the with Patrick, the inability to put mass on has kept him from reaching his potential. Big Ten basketball is physical and gaining the necessary strength has been a struggle. Remember back in November of 2019 he had some "residual health issues" when he was a freshman. At that point, many people knew that putting size and strength that players normally put on would be more difficult for Patrick.

Jordan is now 9-38 from 3 this season in conference play or 23%. For comparison:
Keegan: 44%
Patrick 30%
Joey T 40%
Kris 25%
Connor 18%
Payton 33%
Tony 37%
I am no Bohannon defender, agree he missed some open 3’s against Rutgers, but when you pull these stats you also have to recognize that a few of his missed threes came at the end of the shot clock when he had to catch and launch as teammates got him the ball late as they wouldn’t take the shot.

He's 35% Over his last 23 Big Ten Games, I think it's safe to say he's not shooter he once was.
