J'Den Cox

Dake is our brightest young hope besides JB. Kyle walks around at 185. No way he handles the strength of Herbert. Especially, 2 out of 3! Cox is very tough. A bit green right now, lots of upside. He won't be top 3! I like Dennis at 25 also. I also think Retherford wins 65. Zain is a former world cadet champ,I think.
Ever since this guy started posting here he just throws things out for reactions. Most makes very little sense. I'm sure he knows Zain is 0-100 vs Pico, but he will come up with a scenario how Zain beats Metcalf, Oliver, and Humpheyes then meets up with Jason Tsirtsis in the finals.

When Zain wrestles Pico it doesn't seem like he's having very much FUN.

Haha that's funny. I think his only fun comes from poking Pico in the eye 100 times a match.

Jden is a lean and mean beast. Looking him over at the NCAA finals, I don't see where the extra 8 pounds or so of weight is coming off. No way it's water weight, so it has to be muscle mass. 3 weeks to lose that much muscle mass and still keep your strength. This is on another level of weight cutting. Hawkeye fans know first hand what dramatic weight loss can do to a wrestler (Brody). It will be interesting to see his energy in Iowa City

Actually it will be mostly water.

On another level of weight cutting? A 200lb + man finding another 8lbs with a day before weigh in is JV when it comes to weight cutting.

Ha that finally came on sale? Steiber is probably looking at the 4 seed also. 1 Metcalf 2/3 Kennedy/JO 4 Steiber.

I forgot old James Green here. I'm guessing he'll get 2/3. I'm not really sure how they'll seed him bc his record is 0-1 at his new weight class and didn't go to us open.

But wasn't Cox contemplating going heavyweight this year cause he was having trouble making 97? Now he has to come down another 8 pounds in a couple of weeks. He looked so lean at the finals, it's just hard for me to imagine him losing any more. You must know something that I don't.

He did a year-end interview. A few notes:
- He was down under 195 after a few workouts this year without actually trying
- Managed weight much better this year. Paraphrasing "Q: Could you have done this last year" "A: Nooooooo I loved food too much. Food was my best friend.
- "Where is this weight going to come from?" "Honestly, probably my butt"

Really funny interview overall, recommended:

That really was worth the listen. He's a bright kid with a great outlook on life. I wish him the best at the next level and against anybody who isn't a hawkeye.

J'Den really does seem like a good kid. While brief, I thought his interview after the NCAA finals was pretty impressive. Does seem like a very bright, thoughtful kid. I wish him well.

Wasn't Cox the one with the blatant illegal slam off the mat and somewhat psychotic behavior after getting tossed? Nobody knows which one is the real Cox but I have a guess judging by Missouri's team actions.

I see the occasional knock on Mizzou's team on these boards and don't really know where it comes from. Does it stem from last year's national duals meet where both teams were more than a little chippy? Honestly, if that's the case take your blinders off because Iowa was just as bad if not worse at that event...

On Cox as a person, I've seen him wrestle since he was a freshman in high school/had conversations with him off the mat. He's a very nice guy, although his slam this year against the Ohio kid was a little ugly (and the DQ was justified). I've never really seen anything else come from J'Den that would lead me to think he's some kind of dirtball, though. He should be a strong contender at OTT in a couple of weeks.

J'Den later apologized for his behavior in that match and wrote a letter to Wellington apologizing for the slam and his actions.

I think he really wanted an undefeated title run this year (and the Hodge), so he was pretty upset to lose his shot. He definitely deserved the DQ though.

That's pretty classy to write him a letter. He came off as a bad apple in that much but he definitely seems like a great kid.

Ok off topic some. I just finished watching the flo tapes of our guys in Russia. Darn those Russians are something else. Not a one of our guys could take out the Russian. Ramos, Dennis,Steibler,Telford, Metcalf and Snyder.

It helps when the strength and conditioning coach is a pharmacist.
It will be interesting to see if the Russians slide now that the curtain has been lifted.

Thanks for posting the audio link, that was an impressive interview. I loved the line about riding in the trunk..."I've been in the trunk and it's not that bad." :D Good luck in the trials to Mr. Cox.
