Jimmy Carter to begin receiving hospice care

JC-Can-Save-America.jpg

I visited Plains in 2016 and toured his farm and the museum in the former school he attended. It was also interesting to see the depot that was the center of the 1976 campaign, and across the street was Billy Carter’s gas station museum.

If you like presidential history, it is a good day trip from Atlanta combined with a stop in Warm Springs for the FDR Little White House. Andersonville is close to Plains and also a good stop.

If you seriously think the guy who lied constantly and turned covid into a political stunt, embraced white nationalists and set race relations back 50 years, then lied to try to overthrow a free and fair election was a better president you are a steaming pile of shit. But everyone is entitled to their opinions I guess
What do we put the odds at that Turd will attend Carter's funeral when that day arrives???

I say <1%.

Good man, worst president in my lifetime.
The first election I was old enough to vote was 1976, and I voted for him.

Once he left office he did a lot of good for mankind.
I can agree with this. He was a great person after leaving office. I think he was a good person while serving and probably meant well, but was just not the right person for the job and that made him a God awful POTUS.

IMO (which will get blasted), Carter and Bush Jr. always seemed like great humans--just not amazing presidents.

I never understood the hate for W jr. A decent man with lots of bad advice. I can understand the hate for Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz....Because I hate them for their lies

No chance Trump goes

I think he’s be there. I don’t think the Carters would disinvite him so I expect he’ll show up and try to grab some positive press.
I forget how long ago, but Jimmy was on record as saying he wanted Trump to attend his funeral. Always gracious he thought it might be healing. We shall see. Like all things, it depends if Trump can get anything for himself out of the deal. Which only heightens the distinctions between the two men.

I wouldn't say he was the best President in modern history, but I think he clearly was the best person to be President in modern history. He was incredibly smart. He cared about this country and its people. He put others needs above his own. There were some rough patches with his Presidency, but I think that Carter was and is an honorable man who truly serves the country and its people. I hope that one day again we well have honorable leaders. Unfortunately, I'm skeptical that it will ever happen again.
My dad RIP got to meet him in person at his work. His boss was a big wig with the democrat party in South Carolina. My dad's company would get calls from the White House and the lady that answered the phones thought it was a joke. It was the real deal

I hope Trump doesn’t go. Carter has devoted his entire life to serving his country and helping his fellow Americans. He deserves a dignified ceremony, free from pointless drama.

And dignified simply is not in Trump’s repertoire. All the other ex-Presidents will be there for the right reasons. But it’s difficult to imagine a scenario where Trump shows up and doesn’t try to finagle the spotlight onto himself.

I was thinking of him earlier this week actually. The most Christian President we’ve had in what, 60 years? 75 years? 100? and would get beaten like a red headed stepchild by Trump for Evangelicals’ votes. Like 100%-0. Absolutely f*cking creamed. They’d ride him out on a rail of every mega church in America.
Take a pill.

Yes, I meant since leaving office. A great human being, a bad POTUS.

The 70's were so wierd, I'm not sure anyone could have been a good POTUS
Reminds me of Iowa's very own Herbert Hoover. Outstanding character, a true humanitarian, did great things outside his presidency, but the presidency itself was pretty much a disaster.

There is a weekend day tourist train thing in South Georgia that goes through some towns including stops in Americus and Plains GA. Back in 2006 we took my three year old who was obsessed with trains and older daughter and after getting back on train from tourist stuff in Plains, he and his wife were in our car saying hi to everyone and went through whole train. Apparently they always did that when they could. It was really cool. They looked very old and frail then so it is amazing he is still with us almost 20 years later.

He was really good on King of The Hill. And his patented brake dancing stopped a riot at the Iowa State Fair.

What a great story and thank you for sharing it.

Let’s not sully a thread and focus on positivity as regards President Carter please.

Seems like a lot of revisionist history here. I was in my teens during his term and remember him being ver unpopular and essentially doing nothing. Carter is in the 20 worst Presidents on all lists. 2nd worst on one list and bottom 10 in many. He was very poor as President but a good person. Mostly known for his brother Billy. He did far more after his presidency than during.

I'd argue he's the only one who's acted like a Christian. He did everything in his life that Christ said we should do. And conservatives laugh at him, proving they aren't actually Christian.

Very meh POTUS, but best person we've ever elected as POTUS. We'd be far better off if we elected more Jimmy Carters, fewer Bushes/Clintons/Reagans/Johnsons, and no more Trump clones (looking squarely at DeSantis).
