Joe Biden Might Have Made His Biggest Mistake Yet

Joe Biden could face defeat, should Americans come to believe that former President Donald Trump is being prosecuted for purely political reasons. Americans do not like seeing people targeted unfairly.

Polling conducted after the 37-count indictment for illegal retention of classified documents found that his support among Republicans increased. Eighty-one percent of Republican primary voters believe the charges were brought for political reasons. The number of Republicans who believe Trump is being unfairly targeted exceeds his base.

A Reuters poll found that Trump leads Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis by a 43 percent to 22 percent margin.

The Real Clear Politics Average puts Trump at 52.7 percent and DeSantis at 22 percent.

This same dynamic emerged during the late 1990s when Americans rallied behind former President Bill Clinton amid his impeachment for perjuring himself in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case. Clinton’s popularity soared. Even Trump (a friend of the Clintons at that time) sided with Clinton.

Joe Biden Comments About Trump Tee-Off Political Prosecution Claims

Biden’s comment last November following the 2022 midterms that he would see to it that “under legitimate efforts of our Constitution” that Trump never becomes president again could come back to bite him. Trump’s campaign will be able to seize on it and argue that Biden intended to interfere with the 2024 election by keeping him from running.

“It’s pretty hard for Biden to claim he knows nothing about the indictments. Difficult to believe the Department of Justice wouldn’t at least brief the White House about the coming charges. The DOJ is part of the administration, along with the FBI,” Boston Herald columnist Joe Battenfeld wrote. “If the latest indictment starts to fizzle, it could be bad news for the president and rocket fuel for Trump, much the same way the collapse of the Russian collusion case helped the former president.”

The Trump camp will be able to point to donations to Democratic politicians by members of his prosecution team to further cast the indictments as a “witch hunt.” Trump ally Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding a list of the prosecutors working on the Trump case after it was reported that Karen Gilbert, a prosecutor on the case donated to the campaigns of Joe Biden and Barack Obama. Gaetz threatens to cut off funding for Smith’s prosecution of Trump unless an accounting is made.

If Trump is the candidate the election will be a referendum on Trump and Joe sails to victory IMO.

For an R to win the election has to be about Joe...Trump can't do that.

Modern political history tells us the incumbent POTUS is far more likely to win than not. Last times they lost had extenuating circumstances - covid; Perot in ‘92; and Iran hostage crisis in ‘80.

Regardless of who the GOP rolls out; they have to find a way to reengage the moderates. I’m not sure they can currently.

We have extenuating circumstances this time. Such as a senile, diaper wearing crook currently in the White House. Biden should be more concerned about going to prison than getting re-elected.

What are Joe Bidens job approval numbers?
He's about 11 or 12 points in the red.

Better than 19 points in the red, which is where RDS has fallen to since announcing his "candidacy."

And I haven't seen a reputable poll showing RDS ahead of Biden. Not that it matters at this point, but like I pointed out before, the out-of-power party has a major advantage at this stage of the game (I think Mondale and Dukakis each had about a 15-point lead on RR & GHWB in summers of '83 and '87, respectively).

Anything else?

You are perhaps the worst troll I’ve seen on this board…and that includes Bonney and Nat.

The trouble is; given the extreme polarization we have today; I’m honestly not sure how much weight we can give pills like this any longer. Do we really think the next GOP or Democrat post-Biden will be much better?

In a normal world, generic GOP candidate X should be able to beat an - 81/82 year old Biden. But everything I’ve seen the past 20 years tells me the GOP has a clear ceiling outside their base and so no matter the poll, at this point Biden should be favored vs anyone out there.

Cool. You found some extreme biased examples. Now do RDS. LOL.

You'd think if Biden is so bad and unpopular, RDS might lead in some polls at this point, when he hasn't even been vetted or done a single debate. LOL. (What an angry little f*cker he is).

You certainly are right with Trump and maybe with RDS. Someone like a Scott or Haley would beat Biden pretty handily. The soccer suburban moms will flip back to Republicans if Trump is not on the ballot.

But ultimately libs are right that Republicans can’t seem to quit Trump for whatever reason so unfortunately Biden is probably headed for reelection in ‘24.

Extreme biased? The 538 number was an average of multiple polls. Lol

If anything it will bring up more questions about Biden holding classified info he wasn't allowed to posses. Given we have another year before non stop election coverage, no movement on Joe's situation will only make this look more political even. Joe grossly overplayed.

Wait...you’re saying republicans will still vote for trump? You don’t say…
Just like democrats who vote for the democrat candidate....no matter who it is.

People need to start shedding the Team Politics mindset.

Actually what you posted aboutBiden is not fact, just your trumptards typical fake spin. 1. He is not senile 2. Wears no diapers 3.no sign of being a crook, as he has never been impeached, indicted, convicted of sexual assault, had his business fined millions for crooked finances, under grand jury scrutiny for election crimes, or paid out hush money to porn stars he screwed. Wonder who did all those things. Not Choir Boy Joe... Just Lying Donnie Sexual Predator. Those are facts. But you are right about one thing. Someone ought to be concerned about going to prison with a rap sheet like that. And it's obviously not Choir Boy Joe.

Seriously…. In today’s America, would any current oil have positive popularity numbers? Americans are impatient, not politically adept, and really ignorant as to how economics work….Americans excel at pissing and meaning. Trumps numbers were every bit as VAD as Biden’s…..Obama’s numbers were off the chart in comparison….Junior’s numbers sucked buttermilk abs Clinton’s numbers rivaled FDRs…. Go figure.

It's not a mistake to prosecute someone for committing a crime, no matter who the person is. Trump's arrogance about his illegal actions got him indicted. What the DoJ has done may be a political mistake, but it's the right thing to do.

Now we need to start applying that notion to every politician, and their corrupt family members.

As far as reproductive choice and health care goes absolutely, they are the ones who will deliver on that issue
I think you would be surprised at how many suburban mothers are pro-life, but in reality most people don’t vote on issues.

In Biden they see a senile old man.(yes sabula most Americans believe something is going on with Bidens mental capacity, only Team Blue member deny that)

But he’s still better than Trump in their eyes. DeSantis, no matter how bad libs try to do it, is really nothing like Trump and will come off much better on image alone with that group. The Republicans don’t need that many to flip to win in ‘24. Scott or Haley would be best be RDS will beat Biden.

I’m increasingly finding it pointless to argue about anyone other than Trump for the GOP nomination until we actually something, ANYTHING, that indicates Trump is losing his grip on the GOP base.

That is fair. Unfortunately I think you are right and as a Dem, you should be happy. It assures a Biden victory in ‘24.

What would have made me happy would have been Biden deciding to pass the baton to someone else. I like him, he’s done better than I expected, but I’m not comfortable with his age.

If nothing else, I’m not looking forward to the endless posts and clips that prove he has dementia, is senile, etc.

Why do you think, or how do you know, that 'most' Americans think something's going on with Biden's mental capabilities? Given that most Americans voted for him 2 years ago, I'd say that most Americans are comfortable with his mental capabilities. Way more so than Lying Donnie Sexual Abuser's outlandish craziness, childlike behaviors and mental instability. Oh yeah, and incessant, obsessive lying.

Biden opponents such as you hawk, saw Biden as a senile old man 3 years ago. ITV makes not phuquin’ difference what YOU and YOURS think because you thought this for many years.
From my point of view, I have been pleasantly surprised how successful Biden has been as POTUS. Mistakes…sure but he has moved thru some very crucial pieces of legislation….and high “long” look at the economy makes much more sense than the GOP’s idea of goosing the economy falsely with tax cuts and then ignoring that their policies might be a cause for a good part of the inflation this nation is in right now…..altho the inflation is much less of a problem here than it is in most of the world.

IMO one could argue that polls like this are driven by the negative coverage he gets from conservative media. If Biden trips, misspeaks, or anything that gets presented as proof of his senility.

For a man of his age, I think he’s as “there” as most people are once they hit the 80s.

A poll? Is that the same poll that told me Hillary was going to win the 2016 election by 14 points? I put zero stock in polls. They usually end up being just like the funder of the poll wanted it to look. Zero confidence They really show what all of America believes.

I tend to use polls more as signs of trends than an actual snapshot of how things look at that moment. In 2016 while most polls had Clinton winning it was far closer than that double digits; and quite frankly, no one’s yet been able to accurately account for the Trump effect in polls consistently.
