Could John Smith pull his son’s red-shirt and have him go as a true freshmen at 157? Joe smith had quite the performance yesterday winning the Oklahoma Open. He handled both teammates, Marsteller 7-3 and Blees 8-2.

Wow, so Marsteller, the monster from PA, the next 4X champ will be riding the pine? Who woulda thunked it?

Other interesting results:

Jordan Rogers (Oklahoma State - Unattached) won by decision over Nolan Boyd (Oklahoma State - Unattached) (Dec 11-7)

1st - Kaid Brock (Oklahoma State - Unattached) won by decision over Gary Wayne Harding (Oklahoma State - Unattached) (Dec 10-4)
Crutchmer's place is 3rd

Eddie Klimara (Oklahoma State - Unattached) won by decision over Nick Piccininni (Oklahoma State - Unattached) (Dec 9-7)

I know your being facetious BUT Not me for sure, I was very upset when things went down and he ended up going to Okie State instead of PSU. I never thought he would be a 4X NCAA champ or anything but I did think he was the real deal multiple NCAA Championships, Obviously the story has not been written yet and he definitely has the ability to still make that happen but it is quite the bunch up of talent at his weight in Okie Land.

P.S. Smith Impresses me more every time I see him wrestle. Penn State and Iowa should have made a bigger push to get him;)

Marstellar appears to be a 165 lber who can't be truly effective at 157. Unfortunately for him, the best 165 lber in the country, and maybe the best folkstyle wrestler in the country, happens to be at that weight at that school. He'd slot nicely into Iowa's lineup, so that's a tough break, but I don't think we were ever really in the running for him.

Vak he would slot in nicely here at Iowa, for 2016 and 2017, then he would just get stuck again behind Marinelli :p

Other than not being aggressive on his feet against Smith he looked good yesterday. Granted the competition wasn't top level. Does anyone here know much about Yoanse Mejias? I see he won a NJCAA title for one of the Iowa programs.

Solid JUCO wrestler. Think he was/is good friends with Nosomy Pozo and Iowa State was looking at one of the two , but not sure how big the interest really ever was.

I do think Marsteller would be an AA at 165, but that obviously isn't an option for him right now. 157 is just too big of a cut

Yoanse and Nosomy are Miami boys. Extremely freaky athletes who should transition well over to D1

Didn't want him.

I have to say that if I were a D1 coach, I think I would recruit that family as infants. How many national champs are in that family, counting the Perrys? Something like 7 or 9 is it?

There's been some misses as well I know the youngest brother Mark was pretty good but never won a title then there's the White bros (Nephews) who were never full time starters on the team but otherwise a great pedigree

I think pulling that red shirt would be a mistake. They can wait a year.

Mark had a ton of pressure on him to win and I think he just could not shake it off. Big brother 2x champ and 6x world, next older a 4x champ. Very competitive family and I know they made no bones about expectation. Loving family to be sure but mark always felt the pressure.

I will NEVER forget the incident in Cleveland, I believe, where he lost to the Mich. guy? and trotted off the mat and flipped off the cheering crowd only to be neck-grabbed by his brother and pushed to the locker room. We were sitting next to the OSU section and there was stunned silence after his match.

I think you've got Uncles and Brothers and Dads and stuff mixed, or I'm completely missing something, which could be the case.
