Joe T at WVU

Thriving is probably an overstatement but he's definitely playing a good amount (2nd on team in minutes played).

Statistically:

13.0 ppg
3.0 Assists
1.0 Turnovers
7.6% Turnover rate (23.8% last year)
3.5 rebounds per game
1.5 steals per game
3.7% Steal rate (4.6% last year)
38.9% FG% (42.3% last year)
41.7% eFG% (45.4% last year)

85% FT%
.327 Win Shares per 40 minutes (tied for best on team)
23.4 PER (Player Efficiency Rating) (14.9 last year)

Those shooting stats are similar to Iowa where he ranked 2nd last to only Ulis in shooting efficiency. If you add in his turnover rate (23.8%) it was even worse last year, but through 2 games he's been better at WV.

His Advanced metrics are good (Win Shares and PER) and his assist/turnover ratio is good (3:1) as is his turnover rate obviously (7.6% compared to 23.8% last year).

His turnover rate should climb as they play more games (Keegan, Kris, Patrick, Peyton and Jordan were all below 10% last season) but if he can keep it below 15% he should have a solid year despite his low shooter percentages.

Not a great fit at Iowa where high shooting % and low turnovers is valued, both weaknesses of his, but perhaps a good fit at WVU.

Looks like he's thriving to me. Very happy for him, he's a hard worker and good teammate.

This has already been hashed over a fair amount, not as much as Charlie Jones but still plenty discussed.

I like Joe's game, despite his flaws. I'll take the Tasmanian devil act that disrupts an opponent even when he gets out of control at times. It was just never a good fit in what Fran wants from his PG.

Good move for Joe. And will probably end up being a good move for Fran as well.

Great to see, good for him! Ulis and JT were duplicative from a roster makeup standpoint and I think his departure was a net neutral for the Hawks (while seemingly helpful to WVU).

Fran told Chad Leistikow that Joe wanted 30 minutes a game and Fran could not (nor would not) guarantee that.

In Joe's 2 games:

Did not start, 17 minutes, 2-7 shooting, 0-1 from 3, 4-4 FTs, 8 points, 1 asst, 0 Turnovers, 1 steal, 4 fouls vs Mt St Mary's

Did not start, 30 minutes, 5-11 shooting, 1-5 from 3, 7-9 FTs, 18 points, 5 assts, 2 Turnovers, 2 steals, 2 fouls vs Pitt

I hope Joe found what he was looking for.

Who is wv playing?
I could be wrong, but I think he was making a joke about #2 for Kentucky (Wheeler) looking a lot like JoeT. At least being shorter in stature at the very least.

JoeT is a little leaner than Wheeler, but I could see why the attempt was made.

‘Stellar’ D being played by CJF.
C.J., Joe T., and Nunge were all on the Iowa roster at the same time and as good as everyone seem to think they were and yes they were all good players, Iowa never got past the second round. Don't miss them....

Acting like we couldn't use Nunge is questionable. As much as I hate CJ he would be some much needed senior leadership on our current team. Joe T didn't add much, but I like his energy and defense.

Who are you benching for him?
I am not starting him. I am just postulating what I think Fran would do if CJ were still on the Iowa roster.

Would be a nice 3-pt threat off the bench, but would also have to hope his lack of defense won't kill you on the other end.

CJ is known as a great defender

His minutes will probably go down as the season progresses. Looked like the weak link tonight.

Yeah, they canceled the fvcking tournament.

Jack Nunge was picked pre-season big east first team by the coaches this year.

He also dropped 23 points tonight. 8/11 from the field. 3/3 from deep with 7 rebounds, 3 blocks and a steal. It's okay though. We have Rebraca.
