Joe t

What is all the love for Pemsl? Kriener had 8 rb and 13 points in 18 minutes. I would say that deserves a start at the 4 position.
I agree , I am surprised that Nunge has started the first two games, and I'm not down on Nunge. I think he will come around, but I think Kriener's play the past two years has shown he is our next best post player after Garza. I would like to see Ryan and Joe T start, and have Connor and Nunge come off the bench.

Toussaint does make things happen. He can make his free throws. He has a lot higher upside than the other two point guards. It seems like he should be starting. With playing time he will only get better.

Touissant is raw and will make mistakes, but the up side is tremendous. With him on the floor Iowa has someone capable of breaking the D down and scoring or creating open looks for others. Connor plays his ass off, but is just too slow. The fastest way to a better Joe is more PT. I would say the same about Evelyn. I would like to see a couple games with those two getting the majority of the time at PG and move Connor to the 3 to spell Wieskamp. I suspect a JBo red shirt announcement coming this week or next based on his limited PT. The Connor experiment as starting PG needs to end soon.

Yeah, Agree.

We need to go 4 "guards" and get Nunge off the floor.

There will still be time for Connor as the 3rd or 4th guard, hes playing good D, but he cant play the pg.

It was rough to watch. Got benched early and stayed engaged. Got yanked the second time and he went towards the end of the bench with the practice guys, put his warm up on and just sat there. I feel for the kid because I am sure he is disappointed. With that being said, I fear he is going to be another Fran bust. We need that spot to be an athletic difference maker like Reed was for DePaul. At best we get Dom Uhl like production from him and that might be a stretch.

I don't understand what criteria is being used to determine him as one of the starters and Tusant not?

It's really strange.

Whatever weird BS Fran was doing these first two games it's time to embrace reality.

I tend to agree. Based on Jack's performance the last couple of games, I would reduce his PT for certain and remove him from starting.. Also agree on Joe T being thrust into the starting role at PG. As far as having two bigs in the game at the same time, I'm not sure, because based on the need to adjust for smaller, quicker teams may take precedent over size. But definitely want to see Joe T given the responsibility and opportunity to facilitate. At least for the near future.

I think this is spot on. Sit Bohannon to comeback next year 100%

Starters / bench-rotations going forward: I don't mind Connor getting minutes and in the 1/2 court letting him facilitate, but I want more of Fredrick/Toussaint/Evelyn and less Bohannon if he's not going to be 100% (they need more PT)

C-Garza / Nunge
F-Kriener / Pemsl
G-Wieskamp / CMac / PMac
G-Fredrick / Wieskamp
G-Toussaint / Evelyn

I think BlackandGold said that CMac sucks and if you cannot see that then you need glasses. Watching Connor get cut off time and again on dribble penetration and relegated to dribbling the perimeter east and west is not a sign of a good point guard.

it is when the are running motion and he's looking for guys coming off baseline screens. Connor doesn't have to blow by guys, if the lane opens he can get leverage and use his strength and size to get inside.... but not really what we are often looking to do, he's often trying to find guys coming off actions.

Joe T is a refreshing alternative from the poor of play of the past couple years. Joe T is raw but he will make things happen both on D and on the offensive end!!

Toussaint has definitely got potential, but he's really raw,... I would be inclined to give him heavy minutes though because I think he's going to need game time to develop...

Kreiner played really well I thought. Joe T. should be starting IMO.
I also think one of the biggest things should change is when Luka Garza
gets the ball down low......Half the time he has 3 guys on him and he is still trying to make the basket 1 on 3!!!! If he would kick it out several times will really help this team. I also think that CJF is being submissive to all his teammates. CJF is really good and want him to "hunt" his shot a little more.
But with Luka going 1on3 doesn't help our shooters at all

I'd go smaller than that.

Play Weiskamp at the 4.
I don’t think Connor is playing badly at all, but I do think he is being misused. I’d be playing him at the 3 or even the 4, or give Pat more time at the 4. We need more quickness and ball handling. Put Joe T at point and we’d be running like Fran wants to.

I think it would be a mistake to put Weiskamp at the 4, though. He needs to handle this ball more, not less. Too much standing around is making him passive.

Putting him at the "4" just means having him guard the 4. I agree Connor could do that too though.

Offensively your going to have to play differently when you go small regardless.

Offensively the guards become interchangeable.

You either start the offense by posting Garza or having him set the high screen at the top. Everything else just reacts off that depending on what the defense does.

You can have any of the 4 perimeter players start with the ball. Although Joe T is most equipped to initiate vs spotting up on the wing.

Yep,.. personally, given the losses to the roster, I view this entire season as a rebuilding year...
Yeah, it was one bad game, but if last night becomes anything of a trend over the next couple of weeks, JB should 100% be redshirting, and the young guys should be getting extensive minutes.

I’m still convinced that Connor goes to baseball full time after this year’s opportunity to play alongside his brother. Toussaint’s play is encouraging enough that he should be capable of taking the reins at PG either this year or next.

I think we all need to hope that Toussaint continues to show out and that Connor has a helluva year on the diamond

I was impressed with him in the second half. First half seemed to be going to quick. He will play a lot this season people need to relax.

Last night is what it was, I saw this as a rebuild season months ago,.. I agree with Bohannon taking the medical....

Hes a freshman who came into a game where his team was getting beat badly with teammates not able to make plays on offense against guys he probably felt he could beat.

I totally understand pressing at that point.

If Connor continues to play the majority of the pg minutes instead of Joe Fran will be letting everyone know hes not capable of making an objective decision and things could get ugly.

And Connor better have some THICK skin because he'll get crucified.

Toussaint is the future,.. but he's coming in with some rough edges that are going to have to be smoothed off....

First of all you can't have Nunge and Luka in there together. That might be the 2 slowest guys in the entire Big Ten, and who are they going to guard. If last nights game was any indication, the answer is nobody. I'm not even sure what to do w/Nunge at this point. I'm sure he's rusty from sitting out that redshirt year, but to me he's a guy w/out a position. Way to slow to guard most teams 4's, he's not really a banger, I'm not sure what he's best suited for. Connor would be a nice pt guard off the bench, giving hustle and energy. Ideally playing 15 minutes or so. It's early and I'm guessing (or hoping) Fran was wanting to bring Joe T along slowly. After watching last nights game I think we would be better off living w/his inexperience and giving him the minutes. There's really not a guy out there that could stay in front of their man. DePaul was so much quicker at every position it was laughable. It's going to be a long season. I see us getting blown out of almost every road game in the Big Ten. Kind of similar to 2 years ago.

After realizing Nunge is slower than my mother towing a Chevy, I think his only position is to backup the #5 spot. He might not want to be a banger, but he has to be. Having him and Garza on the floor at the same time simply will not work, unless we’re playing another team with a big and slow #4 and #5. If we aren’t going to go small with the lineup I mentioned above, then start Pemsl at the #4 and use Kriener to spell him. Kriener can be utilized on the block or the high post.

You’re right, this probably is a rebuilding season with only Evelyn and Kriener as seniors. That said, Fran, who has been running a “developmental program” similar to the football team since his arrival at Iowa, can not afford to have upperclassmen leave on years where the Hawks should be primed to make a run... this is that year. We’ve reached the point in his tenure where his teams should consistently reach the NCAA Tournament, with the occasional NIT season in rebuilding years. A failure to make the tournament this year, regardless of circumstances (Cook, Moss, Bohannon) will be incredibly disappointing.

Will try to remain optimistic though, because this could be an awesome team if they gel
