Joe Toussaint...Wow! Jon Rothstein (CBS Sports): "Buy Stock Now."

I thought Joe and Conner looked good together. Great passing. But that might create a 3 point shooting problem.

Saying to myself--pump your brakes a little on Joey T. The kid looks good. Kind of like him coming off the bench for now. But he merits more minutes.

Its very clear that Joey T and CJF are the best defensive guards since Mikey G and AC left the campus. They both frequently stop the ball in a way no one else on the roster has done for the last three seasons.

he gives our offense a much higher ceiling when he is on the floor.
Not sure about Joe transferring, contingent on PT. since that is out of my knowledge as a fan, however, I agree with you that Joe does give our team more options on offense. I like his defensive skills a lot, stays with his man like glue at times.

I also like his speed and his passing skills, especially the "no-looks". Joe stated during a post game presser that he slowed down tonight, and said he was playing too fast in previous games. He played pretty fast at times tonight. Imagine that. He played fast after slowing down! And, did well.

Iowa played well tonight against a very decent team, and the reserves held their own tonight better than the other games. Connor didn't score, but controlled the offense which is his job. Garza is certainly a special player and our best player., and JoeW played very well and got hot early. Toussaint is sure fun to watch, and is earning much more playing time. Fran is letting certain players catch up to their game, and Cordell was much more active tonight, although his offense is still missing. I hope Bohannon is cleared to play this year. He needs to play under pressure to get back to his old self. Fredrick is one of my favorites and absolutely should start or play more.. I think Fran knows what he can get out of Kriener, and his minutes will increase. Nunge at least now has had two games in a row in which he contributed like he can, but he needs to use his muscle more. Evelyn is still a mystery player to me, and Till and Ash are probably happy being 1-2 minute players. Doubt if we will have PMac. Looks very much like we will have a nine-man rotation this year unless Evelyn drastically improves. .

I really like having Connor and Joe T at pg. The contrast will drive teams crazy - Connor is deliberate and then Bam!, he hits a teammate for an easy bucket. Joe T gets the opponent on his heals and draws double teams ans also makes the pass for an easy bucket. If both are on the floor at the same time with Garza and Wieskamp, you could have either Nunge or CJ as the 5th in that group depending on matchups and have a dynamic scoring team that can also defend the perimeter.

He is so quick that his passes to the post players cannot be properly anticipated and handled by them.

I agree with everything except for Connor. He played well tonight. Evelyn needs to see a few drop right now. Good defense tonight on the 3 pt shooting, as this team is scary good. Top 5 3pt% in the country. Overall, a little bit bitter defense tonight. Still a long ways to go. We didn't hardly turn the ball over. Joe got into their heads. You are seeing a really promising point guard. Fredrick missed 4 shots, then finally hit a couple. Garza is a beast!

Yep, Connor did fine and is a rotational player. In the second half, there was a stretch where they had Connor in at the 2/3 with Touissant at PG, so Fran is aware and was trying different combos.

Fran was utterly effusive in his praise of Touissant after the game. I’m sure you will see different line-ups and getting the team ready for tougher games and the Big Ten.

Connor definitely isn’t as quick or dynamic or exciting as Touissant, but like Touissant he did have some nice dishes as well and he gets the ball in the right spot. He had 7 Assist to 1 TO.

I really enjoy watching Frederick play. He just seems in control and doesn’t force anything. You get the sense he knows that when needed (like against DePaul) he can turn it on.
I get the sense against better competition he will turn it up but against lesser teams, he’s just going to take what comes to him. Plus, he plays really good defense.

Every time Garza shoots right now I think it has a chance to go in.

Nunge looked decent too, which is two games in a row.

Pemsl is what he is. I think there will be 2-3 games where he will be a huge spark and play heavy minutes but in general I think he is just a 10-15 minute a game player.

Right now, Evelyn looks like the 10th guy and is there for depth only. He is this year’s Dailey.

McCaffery does also. The difference is that Toussaint draws multiple defenders and literally gets other players wide open shots
What have you seen from the Starting 5 for the first 5-7 minutes of the games this year that impresses you?

Connor will not drive teams crazy. He will be the guy they hope to see on the court.

The recipe for success this season, in my opinion, rests on Joe T. I know many people will think that’s crazy because we have Garza and Joe W (and maybe JBo) but he gives our offense a much higher ceiling when he is on the floor. Frankly, we are going to need to score as many points as possible to win more games than not. I’m not knocking CMac but when he is on the court our offense revolves around swing passes on the perimeter and dishing into the post. Defenses are rarely having to help because Iowa lacks somebody who can penetrate and make defenses break down like Joe T. You add that element in the mix, especially having Joe T, JBo/CJF, Joe W, Garza, and Nunge on the court together, then defenses have to worry about a pass out for three, the drive to the hoop, the dish to a cutting big, and so many other possibilities. CMac is a guy you want coming in to give your main guy a break because he is going to play smart and he isn’t the type of player who relies on getting in the flow. My biggest concern is Fran continuing to give CMac more minutes and not giving Joe T his fair chance soon enough leading Joe T to transfer. If I were Joe T and Fran still sticks with Connor next year I’d leave too. Could I be jumping the gun in assuming Joe T is that good? Maybe... But throughout my years of playing, coaching, and scouting I firmly feel Joe T is a better basketball player already and deserves more minutes than Connor. Again, not knocking Connor as I think he is a legit PG as a role player coming off the bench. I just see way more upside with JT.

I can’t believe what goes through some people’s minds.

I’d like to see to see Toussaint starting... if that’s what you’re getting after

Connor is a great facilitator, (hence his A/TO numbers) but the current starting lineup isn’t very conducive to consistent scoring against athletic teams with a general lack of ability to create off the dribble and draw defenders away from their areas or off their men. That’s why I think Toussaint and Connor playing together is a pretty interesting backcourt. Put Wieskamp, Nunge, and Garza along with them and you have a pretty versatile starting lineup (assuming the Nunge we’ve seen the last couple of games is what we can expect to see more of going forward)

it's a throwaway year, what have you got to lose by starting someone with actual power 5 talent

Geez, some of you must have a long held grudge on the coach's kid from your little league days or something. It's the 4th game of the year and Joe T will get plenty of minutes if he continues to play like this. The conspiracy that Fran is refusing to play him to give Connor more minutes is really illogical but I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Bull. Every player does things like that. If you want Joe to be perfect before he starts, then he never will.

JT is just what this team needs. I can’t wait to see him develop!

Actually you have to be playing with allot of intensity to plow through a screener.

Not sure anyone on Iowas team has plowed through a screen in 3 seasons.

The first true, for real, no doubt about it PG since the arrival of Fran.

Yep, He has created more easy baskets for teammates in 4 games than the previous 9 years combined.

I'm getting an uneasy feeling about the Connor situation. I'm not sure Fran is going to be able to be honest with himself as quickly as he needs to.

This team has no shot at the ncaa without Joe playing all the minutes he can handle.

How many games had Connor started prior to this year? answer none.

Had Bohannon not had hip surgery, how many games would Connor have started this year? probably same answer... none.

Connor isn't dog meat, and with J-Bo likely not going to play the whole season, and a freshman like JT who has a bright future.... C-Mac is going to allow JT to learn and grow and gain more time. Also, likely going to see C-Mac as a SF if Patrick isn't able to get back on the court soon too. If J-Bo and P-Mac shut it down, that's going to provide a lot of minutes for both JT and C-Mac, along with CJ and BE

Connor is not going to drive any team crazy. He is the easiest guy to defend on the court. Not taking anyone off the bounce, not going to drive and likely not going to shoot. Other than these things, yeah, he is going to give teams fits. 0 points last night from your starting PG and his only two shot attempts were 3's. That should tell you something.

I have concerns too how his game is going to work against the majority of the power 5/6 schedule not the SIUE, Oral Roberts, North Florida’s. Zero points from a PG when this is a guards game?

Love joe’s talent. This kid is going to be fun too watch. However, let’s pump the brakes a little bit. He plays fast and he is young. He is going to have some rough patches ahead. There will be games that he tries to do too much. I think he earned a bump in his minutes last night. I think we will see Connor start for a little while until joe is ready. I would like to see both of them on the court in close game situations.

I thought that he could have had 3-4 more assists except for the fact that our intended shooters weren't expecting the ball,... Wake up guys, quickness has returned to Iowa City.

Fran also wants to make sure that Toussaint is ready to shoulder the load,... Put a guy out there too early and you might break his confidence with failure,... I think Joe is ready and I believe that Fran sees that.

If you watched Touissant play D last night, you saw a guy capable of staying in front of his man. He wasn't mugging or hand-checking, just moving his feet (quickly). He kept his chest square with his guy and cut off a number of drive attempts. This is what quickness at the guard spot does--thus we have problems against it offensively.

I get it. Touissant is going to make mistakes and at times play too fast, but that's basketball. Whether it's Touissant playing too fast and losing the handle or Connor getting stripped, it's still a turnover. Touissant is a threat on offense and Connor is not. Touissant can stay in front of guys and Connor struggles. How many times did Settles mention Touissant being the only guy on Iowa quick enough to stay with quick guards? I think Settles knows a little bit about hoops.

Touissant is a guy who can make plays outside of the offense for himself and others. This ability will mitigate the type of runs Iowa has been prone to when the offense stagnates or 3's don't fall. I have been critical of Fran's recruiting, but he got a good one here.
