Joe Weiskamp commits class of 2018

In some ways, offering this early is a gamble. For example, you don't know what kind of an athlete he will turn out to be. On the other hand, some things are set. The phenomenal shooting others have mentioned for one thing. He's also now a 6'4" guard. Which means he'll probably turn out to be a 6'5"-6'6" guard. So, at worst you're looking at a 6'5" guard who can shoot lights out- worth a scholly to an in state kid.

You won't have to worry about his athleticism from what I've seen

So far I think that Fran has commitments from the top Iowa player in 2016- Cordell Pemsl, the top 2017 player in Connor McCaffrey, and now the top 2018 player in Joe. What I like about Joe Weiskamp is that he apparently is a lights-out shooter, which the Hawks can always use! So we have a 2016 bear around the boards, a great 2017 tall playmaker, and a super 2018 heads-up shooter. I'm happy. Now let's bring on some "trees," another great 2016 guard, and the best players available with some size.

Wieskamp was offered by Iowa, UNI and Iowa State so early for being more than just a shooter (although it's possibly his strongest attribute). So, so hard to project a kid in the summer between freshman and sophomore years, but the little video there is of him he appears to be a decent/good athlete with more to his game than just shooting the ball. He also has the look of someone who may grow another few inches and get even more strength/definition to his game.
Will be interesting to see how he develops over the next 3 years.

Did Deano and Horner accept after their freshman years?

I know Horner did. Not 100% sure on Oliver but pretty sure he was offered that early. From those who have seen him play does he resemble Horner game? If not curious whose game he does resemble.

Guys, Joe is such a phenomenal kid....and I am not just talking about his skills on the court. He comes from a GREAT family, and he is really nice, and grounded young man. The sky is the limit for him, and he is a very hard worker. Can't wait to see him lace it up.

Quick Joe story. Some friends and I were playing in a pickup game this spring at the High School (early morning game), and Joe popped in and we asked if he would like to join in. Well, he took a spot on the team opposite my friends and I. Now, I am old, and slow, and never was athletic, but some of my friends are fairly good players. Anyway, we kept taking timeouts, because it was so apparent that Joe was just toying with us...not in a mean way mind you, it was just that he would pass the ball to his other teammates, and when they would absolutely need a score, they would just tell him to go get it....and he would. We just laughed because we just could not stop him.

GO HAWKS!!!

The kid is the real deal. This is a huge commitment! He led his AAU team to an 8-0 performance at Spiece Run-N-Slam and then he was named the co-MVP at the KC Classic. He averaged 18.6 points per game as a FRESHMAN in high school. Some people say that he is the most exciting prospect out of Iowa since Ricky Davis. I just hope some of the big boys such as Kansas don't come calling. I have heard his family are big Iowa fans. Go Hawks!

Ill be alright if Kansas comes calling because this is one player I dont see us losing. Besides being an Iowa fan, location played a big part in his decision. He definitely wants his parents able to watch him often.

per high school coach whose team played against Muscatine & Wieskamp last year..."the kid goes about EVERYTHING the right way"....didnt surprise me he committed this early... it would not surprise me that Devonte Lane commits to ISU...

I like Wieskamp alot...and because of the way he goes about his work....he will get better & stronger.

I know his dad well. He was a pretty good player in his own time that was offered by UNI, if memory serves me correctly. Definitely a good family and big Hawkeye fans. Glad we got him.

Welcome Joe! Great shooter with good athleticism from a family of Hawkeyes. Sounds like a great pick up by Fran.

Guys, he and his parents LOVE Fran and the staff. It would take a major disaster for Joe NOT to play for the Hawks. It is a done deal!!!

Early commits like this catch the attention of other potential high-end recruits. ESPN has him very highly rated.

Chris Kingsbury (I believe) was a McDonalds All-American. Does Muscatine play Iowa City schools. If so I would imagine that would be a tough seat to come by when they play. 2 McCaffery's vs Weiskamp. Better have the game at Carver.
