Murrays and Perkins should log the most minutes.
Conor should play 0 minutes. Bohannon plays too much. Patrick is terrible on defense and and even worse rebounder. People who say he has great handles are high. Him getting to the hoop, and the resulting shots, are some of the ugliest chit I've ever seen. Tony Perkins should play a lot more. Ulis should play more. Kris should play more.
Where can I pick up a copy of that?
They should. The original post said those players need 98% of 5he minutes which was absurd.
The way to counter it is force the bigs to play perimeter defense.
They are more out of place there than the smaller guys are inside.
They foul out quicker.
But apparently Fran isn't going to do this. Hes going to play to the opponents strengths and not his own teams so this is basically a throw away year.
I still think you should apply for an assistant coach at Iowa so you can recruit 5 or 6 all american players who would love to live in Iowa and take you to the NCAA every year...
Agree.Must admit to some frustration at the compromise manner of play. If we're going for the approach you suggest, and I, as a fan, prefer just start Kris or Payton. Kris could be force multiplier off the bench when he comes in with Tony and Ahron-clearly the better player but sometimes you shock the game in several ways when everyone goes to their bench and we hit their reserves, or kind of tired starters with someone like Kris. Payton does not yet present that kind of unique, multi-skilled player.
Cannot play a more traditional positional ball and mix it with occasional 100 feet of hell if you're going to run their bigs to death. If we're going traditional might as well start mix more Riley and hopefully more Josh in floor time. As usual, compromise doesn't really solve the problem when there are only mutually exclusive, binary solutions.
Mostly agree. Connor, Kris, Joe, and Ulis are basically all averaging 6th most minutes on the team with only 1 minute separating all of them. Tony is actually now the 5th man with Ulis and Joe splitting point duties and the only players averaging significantly more minutes than those guys are Keegan, JBo and Patrick. This has become a 10 man rotation with Sandfort bringing up the rear.As it is now, Connor is playing the ninth most minutes on the team.
And we flat out don't win the Virginia game without JBo. These guys are experienced and have been to B1G arenas, whereas Ulis, Perkins and the Murrays haven't. Like it or not, that accounts for something.
It's McCaffery's team. He is going to play who he feels gives him the best chance to win (same as Ferentz). We can either accept that or post message after message on this board that won't change a thing. It's your right, but it gets old.

Dr. Davis did the best with the compromise. I think the Big Ten's physicality inside makes it hard to get big guys in foul trouble until the Big Guy is worn out. This would be the season to try 100 feet of hell.Agree.
To play small you have to take advantage of the mismatches it presents especially because you have disadvantages to deal with too.
If you're not going to do that then you're better off with Josh or Riley.

10000% Those 16 minutes should go to all four of those other players. I cant believe its even a question to some on hereKris Murray 17.7
Tony Perkins 18.3
JoeT 17.8
Ulis 17.3
CMac 16.5
Yes, only under Fran does the 10th best player tht is shooting 22% from field get about the same minutes as 2nd best player (Kris Murray) or nearly as many minutes as 3 other guys that are better than him. Face it, his Dad is the coach and the only reason Fran swaps a 2nd team of 5. He does it is he can make the exuce that CMAC needs to babysit. Before season Fran was saying CMAC was going to shoot more, but that hasn't worked out yet.
If this team gets to NCAA tourney all is forgiven...if they fall a couple games short because Fran insisted on playing 10 deep when he should have given most of the minutes to top8, then that is on Captain Average Fran.

Obviously my 98% or whatever comment was an exaggerated tongue in cheek comment but it's still blatantly obvious this team should be rolling 8 deep. The minute usage is just baffling. Perkins, Ulis, Kris and Joe T get 70 min a game) vs Rebraca, pmac, jbo and cmac getting 82 min a game....!!!! Absolute Insanity. Id take the Perkins group 1000 out of 1000 times
You have it exactly backwards. Dr Tom’s press was designed to create tempo and he played a lot of players for short stretches and tended to wear other teams down. It didn’t always work the way it was supposed to but more times than not, opposing teams ran out of gas the last ten minutes of games.100 feet of hell, doesn't work with ball today like it did in the 90's. There are just too many good ball handlers today. Even in the 90's it could work in the first half, and some in the second, but it drove me crazy watching the number of layups by the end of the game. Relying on a good shot blocker at the end of the break would not be a good way to go with 6'9'' guys in the back of the defense.
Just play your best players most of the time, (and that's not hard to determine), and let them play the most minutes. Forget the five in five out lineups. Not making any substitutions the other night is the only reason Kris had what everyone calls a bad game. If he gets in the game as a starter, or at the 15 minute mark, and gets 25 minutes. He'll make his mark on the game.
The minute distribution is always hard to understand. I'm not big on Connor getting minutes but noticed something that he's really the only tough guy on this team. Joey T and TP have it in them, I think, but Connor is the only tough guy. Not sure that's worth 16 minutes but it is worth some PT. Remember we got pretty bullied by Purdue and Illinoi

JBo hasn't missed from the field all game!Still stands. How these 5 guys don't each get 30 min a game blows my mind
I love Fran and I love all our players, especially our top 8 players.. what are you talking about? The real puzzle is if you don’t like Fran, and our players are garbage, why do you watch?
Was I talking about you specifically?I love Fran and I love all our players, especially our top 8 players.. what are you talking about?
