John Belushi or John Candy question.

I love John Candy! He's a very likeable guy and he is funny too.

But he's not anywhere remotely near the top of the funniest actors ever. That's all I'm saying.
Not saying you are right or wrong, comedy is subjective, but who would be in your top 5?

John Goodman would have been better as Ox than John Belushi. But John Candy was the right man for the role.

He's not the kind of guy that is going to tell a joke in a movie and be considered a comedic genius. Like I said in an earlier post, those kind of jokes always came across like dad jokes from him which were funny but not his best stuff. He's the kind of actor that makes you laugh at the situation that he was involved in because he always had a way of playing it up to the silliest while usually not crossing the line into the unfunny absurd. It would have been interesting to see how he would have done in dramatic roles if he had lived long enough. You saw hints of his dramatic abilities in Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains, & Automobiles and I think he could have succeeded where many others like Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, and Bill Murray have also.

John Candy was perfect in the Dewey role. One of my all time favorite lines, "My friends call me Ox. You might have noticed that I have a ‘slight’ weight problem... Yeah, yeah - I do. I went to this doctor. Well, he said I swallow a lot of aggression...along with a lot of pizzas!"
