Jok deserves 1st team

First Team:
G Ferrell - IND
G Valentine - MSU
F Hayes - WIS
F Uthoff - IOWA
C Hammons - PUR

Second Team:
G Trimble - MARY
G Jok - IOWA
G Forbes - MSU or Hill - ILL
F Shields - NEB or Carter - MARY
C Costello - MSU

Freshman:
G Sanders - RUTG
G Lyle - OSU
F Happ - WIS or Davis - MSU
F Swanigan - PUR
C Bryant - IND

If they go by traditional positions (which they sometimes seem to stray from), that's a pretty good list I'd say. I do think Stone will end up on the All Freshman team, even though he is a thug.

I think so too, actually. But it's tough to argue he's been better than Bryant or Swanigan or even Happ. That's a good group of freshman big men.

So he needs to create more dead ball turnovers... Got it.

I don't think he will get it, but if he continues to play like he has in conference he absolutely would be deserving, as the thread title states.
What are you talking about? Live ball turnovers, i.e. steals creates run outs, i.e. fast break baskets. Jok has 35 steals on the year which as I said earlier, he has improved his defense, but he does not deserve 1st team. Improvement from defensive liability to average does not equate to 1st team all conference.

You said live ball turnovers. What other kind of turnovers are there? The ball is live if it can be taken by the defense.
I also said that I don't think he will get it, but imo he is deserving if he were to get it. You don't exactly have to be a defensive stalwart to get all conference recognition. There are plenty examples of offensive minded players receiving all conference recognition throughout college basketball.

I agree. And the Melo hype is better than the Melo play right now. 1-14 and 2-12 in his last 2 B1G games and he's had some other duds in there too. 2-7 against Iowa and 3-15 against Penn State.
He is shooting 28% from 3 in conference.
It's a shame the hype will lock him in to 1st team. Certainly hasn't played like a 1st teamer.

The last spot on first team will come down to:
Jok
Hayes
Trimble

The team that wins the most games will have the final player.
Wisconsin has 3 ranked teams out of 6. If they win 5, Hayes will probably win it, if they lose 3, second team.

Maryland has a fairly soft schedule but Trimble's numbers are very mediocre for 1st team. (Suliamon's almost got better numbers). If Maryland ties for 1st in conference, they won't get shut out though.

Jok has consistently led a 2nd half scoring charge for Iowa. If they are stand alone in 1st place, he'll be first team with his pts and steals per game.
Have to disagree. Maryland will get 1 on first team no matter what if they finish 2nd or 3rd. I think it is wrong but no way they leave him off. They'd have to admit they were wrong preseason. Not happening.

I don't think you read the rest of my post. He is very good when he pulls up for a 15 footer off the bounce. And he doesn't need to beat guys off the bounce because with his quick release he can shoot it to 24 feet with s guy in his face. I don't think you can say he doesn't create his own shot.
"Cannot create his own shot" is kind of a secret handshake around here. You either know what it means or you don't. I don't.

To answer you let us suppose that an offensive player throws an errant pass out of bounds, that is considered a turnover. However, the defense must put the ball inbound the ball allowing the defense to get set. A live ball turnover results in a steal, which typically leads to a run out going the other way. We shall see at the end of the year if Jok is 1st team, 2nd team.

Trimble was terrible tonight against Minny. He is in no way deserving of first team ahead of Jok.

Jok had an 1st team all conference 1st half last night against Wiscy. He looked good with his outside/inside game. He set up his defender by dropping a couple of 3s on him, then took him to the hole when his defender had some poor closeouts. He had 1 really bad dribble drive when he traveled in the lane. However, the 2nd half was a different story. Wisconsin coach Gard identified Jok in his defensive adjustments and then we saw a different Peter Jok in the 2nd half. Jok has trouble with tight man-to-man defense and is not good enough off of the bounce to break down his defender. During crunch time Jok ha

Tight man to man last night = grabbing, hand checking, blocking.....of course he's going to struggle against that kind of "defense" if the refs swallow their whistles.

I challenge you to look at the "Last 10 Minutes Offensive Possession" gifs and tell me where Jok is being grabbed. He flat out missed two 15 footers wide open coming off of screens. He had a 3 point jumper blocked. Jok knocked down a couple of free throws and one 17 foot jumper. He missed a critical 3 off of an offensive rebound and a driving layup. Wisconsin just played a nice tight man-to-man defense and Iowa puddles in their collective shorts when teams play them that way.

Hayes grabs him and hip checks him on the 6:41 clip.

Koenig grabs and holds him coming off the down screen and then Happ body blocks him multiple times on the drive to the basket on the 4:22 clip (the clip that ends in the Showalter cross chop of Woody's arm).

They FINALLY called a hand check/grab on the 2:43 clip

Koenig is holding him again on the 2:01 clip.

Thanks for pointing out that thread to me. That really helped me prove my point. A common denominator in most of those clips is Iowa taking a quick shot and not running their offense. Id' love to see clips of the first 10 min of the 2nd half and see if Iowa runs their offense more.

Fran said Jok wasn't feeling well after the game. I think he just got tired. He has issues with his conditioning and asthma as well.
