Joks knees are clearly getting better and better. When he arrived at iowa it seemed like he could barely get up to dunk but the Rutgers game he showed nice hops and was dunking with ease. This could also be a reason his defense has been better also, it's obvious he feels more comfortable than ever with the knees. Fran made another great decision sticking with this kid, he's a big big reason the hawks are #3 in the nation.

He has become a good defender. He is using his legs to stay in front of his guy and using his length in the passing lanes and his arms to reach for wayward passes.

Pete is a big reason why Iowa is winning. His outside shooting and just the threat of him shooting, allows the offense space to operate. Pete's hops are better than Woody, but everyone else who plays jumps better, except maybe Ellingson. His long arms may make it seem like he can jump. On defense, Pete is MUCH better than he had been, but he still loses his man quite a bit and is good for 1 or 2 silly reach-in fouls where he didn't move his feet. He is getting much better at reading passes, and with his long arms, that has made him good at getting steals.

If he can learn to finish around the rim and keeps improving on defense, Pete could be a great player next year. He will need to learn to play through contact to make the next step.

He is still having problems finishing in traffic around the basket.

Has Iowa ever had guys who could do that? Our big guys have never seemed to be strong finishers - just when you're hoping we'll jump up and smash it through you get a 1-foot fade away. That includes some pretty good big men through the years.

He has much better hops than the credit you're giving him.

Does he have better vertical than Uthoff, Sapp, Mike, Uhl, Wagner, or Baer? I don't think so.

Accurate.

His jumping has improved as well as his quickness but he's still not a high riser.

Improvement is likely from getting in better shape and strength training.

The knee injury was like 5 years ago. It's not an issue.

It's probably partially a confidence thing. He probably was scared to jump early on for risk of re-injuring himself. As time has gone and he's gotten stronger he's likely been less scared to show off the hops.

I posted this in another thread, but he was throwing down some monster alley oops before the Nebraska game and getting up pretty high. Jok's got some ups

Lol, what?

Did you only watch the Lick years?

Aaron White and he's still finishing in Germany.

And this question comes one day after Uthoff threw down one of the best dunks of the year right in Swanigans face.

Basabe tried to dunk everything he got his hands on , Olesani dunked allot, Eric May had some nasty ones too.

That's just recently.

Two greatest dunks I recall are Russ Millard's backward over the head dunk against Michigan I think and Roy Lane Marble's dunk to set the career scoring record. They were both monsters. Ute's swooping left hand slam is up there.

I believe Jok recently said that he gave up junk food this offseason. Many young players underestimate the importance a healthy diet plays in their athletic performance. When they're young and talented, everything is easy. However, when they start facing better competition and start aging they realize the importance of getting a competitive edge, and diet is one of those edges.

I agree that Jok looks quicker and seems to be jumping better than we have seen in the past, but I am not sure how much of it is due to healing from an injury that occurred over 5 years ago.

I would agree. Jok stated in a recent interview that he finally felt 100% at the end of last year.
I think his play this year is a combination of confidence in his knee and changing his diet.
It has given him better quickness and more endurance.
Jok isn't a high flier, but I think he has adequate hops.

He may not have dunks, but I've been very impressed with Sapp's ability to finish this year, especially on fast break. I believe he had a 1 on 2 last game in which he decisively sidestepped the defenders and finished with a finger roll. There may even have been a foul (can't remember), but a well-executed graceful finish when he could easily have dropped back and brought it out.

Better than Uhl, definitely. Better than Woody and Ellingson. I'd say comparable to Baer and Uthoff, who both have super long arms that make their jumping ability appear better. Wagner and Gessel have the best hops on the team. Watch Jok rebound, he gets up higher than you think.
