Angelo

As a PSU fan, I think he's a problem, but Im not betting against CStar. He has a history of winning all the ugly matches. Ferrari did make him uncomfortable though, no doubt. He actually looked a little gassed to me and that one down block from him was the most intense I've ever seen from Carter.

All that being said, you let the kid's head swell even more after last night and RS him. You have zero chance at a team title and he'd have to face at least two men who would be expected to beat him. You want as many years as possible with him, BK and Bo in the lineup together.
devils advocate (and not wishing injury on anyone) - but, what if one of PSU's big guns suffers an injury in practice or otherwise over the next week or so before B1G 10s and the team race becomes closer - now do you send Angelo out?

It’s a lot harder to score in neutral when your opponent is on a knee whenever they aren’t in tie ups. I know it’s not a popular opinion, but I think dropping to a knee greatly lessens scoring, lends itself to boring matches, and should be (with a rule change) a stall warning.
Nah. There needs to be a difference between good defense and stalling.

A seasoned college coach of a nationally ranked D1 program in another sport once told me he’d never redshirt a kid good enough and healthy enough to start because you never know how many seasons a kid will be good enough and healthy enough to start.

NAH!!! Giving him another year is the right choice. IF the team is not better and competing for a title?

Louden Swain: I got a bulletin for you, Otto: wrestling is not a team sport! When you're out there on the mat with another guy who's quicker and faster than you, there's not a whole helluva' lot a team can do for you.

Agreed, I'm Spencer excited about him. He's going to destroy a lot of people the next several years.
He's definitely fun to watch like Spencer !
Talking to a guy today he needs to get better on top and bottom so it's great that he has some stuff to still work on and motivate him. Would love to see him at Buchanan's level riding within the next 2 years with turns. Stallrachi wouldn't be a possible five timer if he wasn't such an elite rider He's also elite in the other position but that stall ride separates the guy in the one point matches

I want to know when we will see a portrait of poster of Ferrari signalling three for Pokes with his autograph? Id like one if it ain't outrageously marked up.

It wouldn't matter, so no.

That info will never get out before B1G lineups are submitted.

Maybe this has been answered, but was that toward Gilman?

Because it's true? Lol. Dude was gifted a BS stall call and was gassed and running away from a true freshman who had less than 5 collegiate matches under his belt.
...and yet here we are.

You act like Iowa is filled with bonus machines. I don't know if Brands took one full shot last night and yet he was being praised for doing his job...and he lost.

Oh, Brands who's wrestled all of once this year and was going against an outright stud in #3 Hamiti and avoided a MD?

Yeah, of course we loved him doing that.

What's weird is you comparing that to your 4-time national champion going out against a true freshman (who had I think 2 collegiate matches under his belt), not getting a single takedown and, if not for a BS stall call, would've won 2-1 after gassing and running away at the end.

Lol.

You seem to use a lot of ifs and buts. I get it, you hate Starocci and don't like his style of wrestling. All of your hand wringing won't change the fact that he did, in fact, beat Ferrari.

Yeah. I never said he didn't. I said that when he wrestles the best competition he brings essentially zero offense for most of the match, takes no risks, plays defense, and then gets a last-minute takedown on the edge for the win.

I called him an elite tactician. Which he is. I also called him boring and uninspiring as a top-ranked guy, because he is.

Sorry if that chaffes you down there, but I get the feeling you're one of these PSU fans who thinks college wrestling was invented in 2012. Lol.

Hardly! (WTH am i doing defending Spooner?) Star and Plott both wrestled super tight matches against Angelo and it allowed him to stay in the match, and get the win vs Plott.
Bullshit. 4 time NCAA champs and national finalists don’t “wrestle super tight matches” against true freshmen, regardless of the freshman’s pedigree. If it is close, it’s because the freshman is that good.

Agree 100%. But Angelo isn't a RS freshman. He's a true freshman.

Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but I hate the phrase " let the weight clear out". I know it makes perfect sense, but it seems weak. That isn't a knock on Angelo or Iowa. I think he's one of the top guys now, let alone in the future. It's just a phrase that gets used a lot now, and I equate it to moving weights to avoid someone. Dang, I really am becoming an old "get off my lawn" kinda guy!!
Yonger Batista...
Running scared of the big dogs this year.

Nobody (Keck or otherwise) is taking Carter or Angelo to the woodshed. Both are defensively elite. Over/under on take downs given up by either in a match against PK will be .5. No woodshed going on.

Others watching saw the young guy’s tactic to often let things get to the edge get spared two takedowns by being there. It’s all about what you want to see.

And for the record, I believe Angelo has what it takes to be your best upper in about two decades - by far. I’d be happy with a 50/50 like outcome (like Joseph and Marinelli) with whomever we send out the next four years whether it’s Barr, Ryder (undersized - perfect for Gabe rivalry?), Henckel (dark horse?) or Cunningham (wild card?) or another TBD guy.

I can’t see Barr dropping down when he’s going to a favorite at the weight next year.
